This was a re-read for me, and I love it just as much as I did the first time.
This was a re-read for me, and I love it just as much as I did the first time.
I did not enjoy this. Calaena was incredibly annoying; in between he thinking how she could kill everyone and thinking how beautiful she was in her dresses, she pouted and flirted acted like a child. Which I guess she is, because she‘s only 18. The scene where she ate the candy was just awful. The romance between potential suitors was almost an afterthought, stuck in as random paragraphs during training or fights. I‘ll take ACOTAR instead.

Finished in June. This was technically a reread but does it count as a reread if you remember zero things that happened in the book? Originally read it in 2018.
There were some holes in the plot, but overall I really liked this book and plan to continue the series.

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.52-end: Well, we already knew he was up to no good, but now we know that Perrington is in league with the King and they are up to their elbows in dark magic. No wonder the King banned magic in his kingdom, if only so he can be the most powerful person around. Celaena better be careful and so should Nehemia. Even Dorian needs to tread carefully where his father is concerned. ⬇️
In a few ways this book didn‘t seem entirely fleshed out even as the “first” in the series (why have so many tests and competitors is we get details on so few of them?) the love corner is of no use to me, go away Dorian. Interested to see where this goes with the portals, politics & Celaena‘s journey. And having a great time reading with #littensloveSJM thank you for hosting @StayCurious !
5✨I looked back and found out I read this 7.5 years ago when I had my first baby. I also gave it a 5 star then! I love the strength and compassion that was shown by our main character. There is mystery, adventure, and a love triangle what more could you want? I loved reading this with everyone in #LittensLoveSJM with @StayCurious and look forward to reading-enjoying the rest of my favorite SJM series. 🥰💛
A reread for #littenslovesjm and apparently 9 years was too long for me to remember anything 😆 I‘m looking forward to reading the series again for the first time 🤣🤣 Goodreads says I read the first 4 but my brain says otherwise
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.49-51: Wow, what an intense duel between Cain and Celaena (and Nehemia and Elena vs demons). In the aftermath Nehemia tells Celaena her secrets (she‘s super badass) and it is alluded to again that Celaena has magic in her blood. Dorian stands up a bit to his father and Chaol won‘t be punished for killing Cain, even though Cain was acting out what the king wanted. ⬇️
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.46-48: Wow I‘m so outraged on Celaena‘s behalf! We knew Perrington and Kaltain had arranged to drug her during the duel but to think that they actually pulled it off…so many emotions right now. How will she pull through and how can she prove what they did? Really tense chapters as we near the end.
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.43-45: I‘m glad Celaena told Nehemia about who she is but was surprised she didn‘t rat out Cain. Why keep it to herself? Chaol at least should know, even if she told him in a roundabout way. The King is back - and super secretive. What the heck happened that everyone he was with died?! I hope we find out and it isn‘t just brushed under the rug. More smooches with Dorian - but we don‘t really know how she feels⬇️
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.40-42: That was intense! Celaena not only discovers who is behind the Champion killings, she defeats the evil creature! Thank goodness she had explored the tomb earlier. Interesting how when she was thinking of being killed, she thought of Nehemia and Chaol but not Dorian. That tells us something for sure. And now she‘s been poisoned by the creature‘s bite and has a different fight ahead of her. Will Nehemia save her?
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.37-39: Nothing happened at the Yule ball-except dancing and romance and a love 🔺 getting more complicated. Celaena was expecting something to go down - perhaps Nehemia didn‘t strike because she didn‘t want to hurt her friend - Celaena was not supposed to be there. Or Nehemia is innocent 🤷♀️ I believe Perrington is up to no good - of course. And something is up with Kaltain. Time for some answers to this mystery!
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.34-36: so we‘re down to 5 Champions and most of them have been gruesomely killed - but I feel as though that has been glossed over. Each death is just mentioned in passing. And while Celaena is worried, I feel as though there should be a bit more being done around the castle. Maybe having a masked ball isn‘t the best idea. ⬇️
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Ch.31-33: we are reminded that Nehemiah‘s people are still at war, some still rebelling against Adarlan‘s forces. Is that where the king is? Enforcing his rule? I was a bit surprised that Pelor helped Celaena in the poison challenge - he‘s mostly kept to himself up to now. But it‘s good to have allies. Even if they may have to face each other at the end.
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.28-30: first - Celaena getting frustrated when she‘s not immediately good at something is funny. Second, she‘s certainly been spending a lot of time with Dorian. I doubt much can come of it - not if his parents have anything to say about it. Does he find her interesting simply because he‘s not supposed to? ⬇️
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.25-27: Hmm, Celaena gets a visit from a long lost queen and receives cryptic warnings and missives and a protection necklace. Better not let anyone know about the secret chamber with the tomb - and stop asking everyone about the Wyrdmarks - you‘ll paint a target on your back. If the King finds out what she‘s up to she‘s cooked. There are 16 Champions left. And still more tests to come. ⬇️
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.22-24: ooh - a secret passage! I love me a secret passage! And now Celaena has an escape route if she needs one. I was miffed though when she saw that most of the champions got to go to the feast and she was excluded. Unfair! What do we think those symbols mean around the clock tower? And why was Cain looking at one? I think it has something to do with his ring. And Nehemia knows much more than she‘s letting on.
This is how I‘m doing my Sarah J. Maas reads but add CC3 at the end because this does not have it listed. A bit into the first TOG book and love it. I got a ton of reading ahead of me.
#ACOTAR #TOG #CC #ACourtofThornsandRoses #ThroneofGlass #CrescentCity #SarahJMaas
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.19-21: as we approach the second test, Celaena reflects on her loss of Sam, an assassin she grew up with and loved. Dorian sees her as human and feels sorry for her. I wonder who betrayed Celaena and Sam? I feel as though it was their mentor…but I usually expect the worst. ⬇️
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.16-18: we‘re reminded of the seriousness of the competition when a champion tries to escape and is slaughtered in front of everyone. They are not the king‘s guests-best not to forget it. And even though Celaena may seem to be making connections- with Chaol, Dorian, and perhaps Nox, she really can‘t trust anyone. Except maybe Nehemiah. I wonder what her story is.
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.13-15: hmm a simple archery contest as the first test? I feel like they‘re lulling the competitors into a false sense of security. Or maybe going easy on them simply because one of them was just murdered. Something is going on. It has to do with the King‘s secrecy and with the dead hounds I‘ll bet. Perhaps there is a predator - man or beast - within Adarlan. ⬇️
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.10-12: how hard must it be for Celaena to do the training when she‘s been in the mines for a year!? It‘s hard to run when you‘re malnourished. But she kept up - good for her. And she remembers how to use a sword. I think the strategy they‘re using of keeping her under the radar is good - but I‘d be annoyed too if I were her. ⬇️
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.7-9: it‘s great that Celaena is not only a top assassin- but an avid reader too. I love characters who are book lovers. It makes them so relatable to me. Being in the castle, there will be a lot of court intrigue - we already see a big rift between the prince and the king, and I‘m guessing - since Dorian looks nothing like his father - maybe his parentage has been questioned at some point? ⬇️
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1:Ch.4-6: we‘re learning more about the world and the destruction that Adarlan‘s king has inflicted-especially on magic wielders. It‘s mentioned that Celaena once possessed gifts but that magic disappeared from the land. We also learn a bit about the King of Assassins- her mentor who trained her. And there is someone that she suspects betrayed her and that led to her capture. Someone close to her. ⬇️
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1:Ch.1-3: So far I like Celaena -the fact that she still has spirit after such a harrowing year in the mine is admirable. The prince is arrogant - as he would be. He‘s used to getting what he wants and he‘s probably accustomed to his family‘s power being unconditional. I‘m not sure where the Captain of the guard stands. Is he completely loyal to his master? It‘s an interesting dynamic and an interesting start to the story
Got the book for #LittensLoveSJM @StayCurious Naturally, I went to the cookie aisle next to find the lemon ones @Megabooks You created a monster @Librarybelle 🤣
#LittensLoveSJM #TOG - a reminder that we are starting our foray into SJM‘s other series, Throne of Glass, starting on Friday. All are welcome to join us - just let me know if you want to be tagged in my daily posts. I‘ve heard that although it takes a few books to really hit its stride, some people actually prefer #TOG to #ACOTAR - looking forward to finding out with you all!
This was a fantastic read! Richly drawn characters, a complex, edge-of-your-seat plot, and a world full of mystery and hidden magic. Celaena is more textured in this book, and I liked her more, I think. There are some real stand out side characters — Nehemiah, please — and an enjoyably dark and gritty challenge to solve. Maybe a touch slow-paced at times, and I‘m definitely glad I read the prequel first, but overall definitely a win.
Tackle the TBR 🤓📚

#LittensLoveSJM @LitsyEvents I wanted to post this early since I‘ve seen some interest. After we finish the final instalment of #ACOTAR, I will be hosting the #TOG series by SJM. I‘d like to say that I‘ve heard great things about the series but most say it takes a couple books to really get into the world. She started writing the series as a teen so keep that in mind. Also, there are different views on how to read the series: ⬇️
4.75/5 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌖

Here we go again… another Sarah J. Maas series to get hooked on.
I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and the plot of the book. I rated this book a 5 out of 5 stars.
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Mass. 7,3/10 rating. This was not what I expected. While it was good, it was not enough for me to get invested in it. Will not continue the saga.
Finally, my first SJM! I liked it but I didn‘t love it as much as everyone seems to. In the first 300 pages, despite mysterious killings in the castle and death defying tests for Celaena to become the king‘s champion, there seems to be no narrative urgency. Not to mention the idiosyncrasies of mentioning our heroine causing her door hinges to squeak as protection but then being surprised by everyone stopping in unannounced for pages afterward. ⬇️
So much fun rereading the series!! I can‘t wait for my favourite character to join the series 🥹❤️ #catsoflitsy
This might be ambitious but the end of the year TBR is locked in. I have a plan!
Desolation Canyon and The Widow (already about 1/2 done) are my 15 hours Spotify listens. Throne of Glass, I expect to finish this weekend and then I can start Wreck the Halls. Sasaki and Miyano is something I can definitely breeze through!
Wish me luck!!
Throne of Glass was so good, I can‘t wait to continue Celaena‘s story.🗡️ Plus this collector‘s edition is stunning. 🤩💜
On book 📕 239 for the year! 😃
Nothing like a hurkle durkle with a book and coffee to start the morning.
I enjoyed this one. It was definitely more political intrigue than romantasy. I am hopeful the next book has a bit more of the love story - however after reading ACOTAR I don‘t know which way the “romance” will go. I‘m on pins & needles because of that. 😂 4.5 💫
This book series ripped my heart in half and stitched it back together multiple times. I don‘t think I will ever fully heal.
My friend finally got me to join the SJM hype train. It took awhile for me to get hooked, but once it got me, I wasn‘t leaving. Lots of YA tropes with this one, but I find it charming overall and there were several moments I was on edge because of everything that was happening.
