Ariadne Oliver is planning a murder mystery game for a fete and feeling the situation is being manipulated calls on Poirot for help.

Despite the setting being based on Christie's own house and Ariadne Oliver being a self-insert, this story feels rather perfunctory and doesn't stand out.

While not my favorite Poirot, this one does involve Mrs. Oliver (although not nearly enough of her haha). I still haven't decided whether or not the ending is a bit of a cheat. Soft pick.

I always enjoy the quality time I spend with Monsieur Poirot, but although I listened to the end of this novel three times, there are still 1.5 details I cannot figure out. I can't tell if Christie was trying to be delicate or mysterious by not providing a thorough explanation or if she just figured it would be obvious, but I don't quite get it. And there seem to be an awful lot of extraneous characters in this one, too. Not a fave for me.

Poirot is summoned by Ariadne Oliver to help prevent a murder. She is running a murder mystery event and has a feeling that a real one is about to occur. This one was tricky to solve and I didn't see the twist coming.

Bk13 is another of Dame Agatha‘s Special Editions, this one‘s gorgeous! I love the colour scheme, this and Death On The Nile SE are my faves so far. Sir George & Lady Stubbs decide to host a murder mystery with the help of their good friend Ariadne Oliver & her friend Poirot. Needless to say, things don‘t go as planned!

Agatha Christie's mysteries are true comfort reads for me. It's always reassuring that Hercule Poirot can bring order and justice to a chaotic world with his “little grey cells“. This one is not among Christie's best but it's still enjoyable and I especially like the stories featuring Ariadne Oliver.

I really liked the storyline, but it was easy to guess who the murderer was and I didn't care for the characters. I definitely enjoy the writing style though and that's what kept me interested until the very end. There is always something unexpected about how everything went down, so there was an element of surprise, even though I had guessed most of it.

Was in the mood for a quick read this weekend. One of the later Poirot mysteries as I continue to go through Christie‘s books. A satisfying ending, this mystery stumped Poirot for a brief time. Ariadne Oliver makes an appearance, which is always fun.

A nice little mystery with a twist in the tale.

On my quest to read all Poirot novels, this one stood out because of the brutality and violence done against innocence. Lady Stubbs is a simple- minded person and suggestible. I found myself uncharacteristically devoid of suspects here, as did Poirot, but when the truth came out, it wasn't so much thrill that I felt but an urge to cry for the loss. Dame Christie is truly a masterful author.

I read this June 13-21 and gave it 3 ⭐️. It wasn‘t the best Poirot novel and I felt that there were too many red herrings before we got the resolution. It was a decent read and I probably would have raced through it, had I not been feeling under the weather due to some bad headaches when I started it.

I don't know why I didn't reread this sooner! Such a good one. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Another Christie book! I liked the setup for this one - a murder mystery party that turned into real murder. With the suspects narrowed down to the people who planned the party, guessing the murderer reminded me of playing Clue. As usual, Poirot put the smallest details together to solve everything. There were some aspects to the solution I think the reader never could have possibly gathered, which annoys me a little, but it‘s still a pick.

I may not have read a lot this holiday but I did get to visit Agatha Christie's holiday home in Greenway Devon. The water shot was taken at the folly, the inspiration for the tagged book.

Classic Agatha Christie, comforting and engaging. Maybe not my favourite poirot (the ending seemed less natural than some) but still very worth reading. And it‘s part of my kindle backlist ticked off - I was wrong the other day when I said I had a backlist of 83, i was only looking at 1 collection it‘s actually over 200 😱

I chose this totally at random from my ebook backlist. It wasn‘t at all what I was expecting to go for and I was surprised when my finger landed on it! Seems to be what I‘ve gone for tho! I find Agatha Christie very comforting, it reminds me of my childhood, tho the language she uses sometimes makes it harder to read as I get older, it still has a very fond place in my heart.

Umm..NO!!! That is NOT ok. Hopefully this is Ms Christie setting the tone for her characters as sexist pigs and not just blindly repeating the stuff that men say

An actual murder occurs at a fete that is having a “murder hunt” as an entertainment. Poirot is there because his friend, a murder mystery writer (wonderful character who gives Christie a chance to be both self deprecating and self referential) has asked him to attend because she feels uneasy. The mystery is interesting as is the solution. This book confirmed my preference for Poirot over Miss Marple.

Home sick today plus I‘m watching Hurricane Michael to see if it‘s going to come our way. Reading this for distraction.

It's a good mystery, and I always enjoy the Christies with Ms. Oliver. However, the story itself isn't one of my favorites. A murder mystery hunt takes place on the grounds of an estate, and a dead body is discovered during the charity fete. Another missing woman, a questionable relative showing up unannounced, and many unhappy characters all add to the mystery.

I gave myself until the end of December to ignore my TBR and binge on as much Agatha Christie as I wanted. December is almost over, so I'm wrapping up my binge. This one was fun to read and well-plotted, even if the solution was rather far fetched. Pairs well with clementines and lightly salted dark chocolate.

Library used book store newest haul! I couldn't resist!

I've found my love for Agatha after reading "And then there were none" ..and since that moment this love has grown up..litterally!

Taking a break from reading to play this new board game I bought. Anyone else played it? Confession: I was a bit confused after reading the rules, so I had to watch a YouTube video of someone explaining it. It seems fun, and my character is a crossbow carrying steampunk chemist!

Totoro finished yet another New Year Book buy - a Hercule Poirot mystery. As a big fan of Agatha Christie (and thus horribly and irrevocably biased), Totoro gives this two thumbs up 👍🏼👍🏼. It was an interesting and easy read.

I went on an Agatha Christie kick on a recent vacation and noticed that even though these books are 60+ years old, some things never change...

"I have noticed that these artists and writers are very unbalanced--no sense of proportion."

One of the Poirots I'd never read. I was partially correct (in the end) when I guessed who would be the first dead body. Very meta-fictional as regards the plotting of mysteries and a character who is famous for writing mysteries...
