This was such a fun read! I‘ve always been a Disney fan and Belle has been my favorite princess since I can remember and I loved getting to read this fun novel. Donnelly definitely does justice to these beloved characters. I really loved the aspect of love and death being rival sisters it added a fun element.

This book was very good. This book show you more about what Belle went through and her relationships with the servants and the Beast. Early in the book Belle finds a book that allows her to escape. But soon she becomes lost in the book. Will she be able to escape? Let‘s find out.

I finished this in February, but I'm still catching up on my reviews.

I loved the concept of this book, and it was almost a pick. It's an adventurous read where Belle becomes transported into a magical book world where she finds herself suddenly playing the heroine.

Great book for middle grade readers who like fairy tales.

This was super cute. I love this author. But this is Disney so talking teapots and whatnot, but it's somehow dark and charming at the same time. It's a super quick read. Probably because it's meant for a younger audience.

I usually don't like re-tellings that aren't dark when it comes to Disney. But this one I really really liked! I listened to it all in one sitting and it was just really good. I love authors that can make my heart beat fast and feel like I'm the one in the story, and this one did it so well! There was a perfect balance between the original and the re-telling.

Jennifer Donnelly has a talent for taking classic Disney stories and expanding them with humor and love. She adds to the magic that we fell in love with in the first place. If you enjoy Disney, I would definitely read this! ❤️

Have you ever seen Belle‘s Enchanted Christmas, a direct-to-video sequel (of sorts, takes place during Belle‘s stay at the castle before the movie‘s end)? It‘s a mildly interesting glimpse at life in the castle as Belle and Beast get chummy.

That‘s what this book is. Different plot, but completely unnecessary and, frankly, mediocrely done. Belle didn‘t feel true to character.

My third Donnelly (two mehs and a bail) and my last. Not for me.

This is a picture I took while in Pandora, at World; gorgeous scenery and great attention to detail!!! In the foreground is the floating rocks and the rock wall in the background.

I chose Lost in a Book, because Belle goes into an alternate reality in the book, where she encounters strange beings.

xxjenadanxx @Scochrane26 I'm definitely a huge HP fan as well. What's your house? Which convention are you going to? 5y
Scochrane26 Hufflepuff. We have a big comic con in central Kentucky every year. Warwick Davis (Flitwick) will be there this year. 5y

Scochrane26 @xxjenadanxx I went to college at Campbellsville but am from & still live next to Lexington. Didn‘t know you were from Ky! The comic con is in Lex. 5y
MartinaLove @xxjenadanxx I really love the original but the live action is really magical to me. I have to say the live action. 5y
xxjenadanxx @Scochrane26 I left Ky in 2011 but still consider it home. Good old CU! I went to Lindsey Wilson. 5y
xxjenadanxx @MartinaLove I'm actually the same way! I prefer the Live Action. I cry every time the Beast songs Evermore. I preferred the live action Cinderella too. 5y
MartinaLove @xxjenadanxx They did an amazing job with all the live actions so far! I cried so much watching The Lion King. This was one of them, I watched everyday as a kid. I felt really emotionnal. Lol 5y
xxjenadanxx @MartinaLove I haven't watched that one yet. I just can't bring myself to do it. I'm excited for Mulan though!! 5y
MartinaLove @xxjenadanxx I'm really disappointed Mushu and Criket won't be part of the movie. They change a lot of aspect from the Disney movie to the live action. I'll watch it but to me the Disney movie will remain by far my favourite version. 5y

As quick as it was, it felt refreshing. Simple points of learning about the perfect world versus the real world. Of letting someone else write your story versus you deciding to write your own. I love how it focused on Belle all through; and that she saved herself in the end. Especially with her always kind heart and strong will. Beast was there either everyone else, and they were lovely. Sweet little Chip was adorable as always. And a major piece

“We all make mistakes.” Lucanos said, “The danger lies in letting those mistakes make us.” Make us what?” Belle asked. “make us believe we can‘t put things right. Make us think there‘s no hope. Make us give up.”

156/341 so far. I love the premise of this book - Belle literally getting pulled into a magical book of all she dreamed. She can travel anywhere she wished; something she lost becoming the Beasts prisoner. Outside of it, there are motions of Beast trying hard to become friends with Belle (as trying as it is) I LOVE those small mundane scenes. This is a very quick, simple read. Think it‘s meant for middle schoolers, no matter how it‘s promoted

quote

“Reading became my sanctuary. I found so much in those books. I found histories that inspired me. Poems that the delighted me. Novels that challenged me...” Belle paused, suddenly self-conscious. She looked down at her hands, and in a wistful tone, said, “What I really found, though, was myself.”

Loved it! Made me laugh, be frustrated with Belle, and it actually made me tear up towards the ends. I enjoyed that Donnelly stayed true to the characters‘ personalities. You can also see this happening, Belle getting lost in a book. I wish I knew what else happened after the story ends. 😔 it was still a good story and I read most of it yesterd and today.

Change of pace for today‘s reading- I‘ve added in some themed music! Amazing what a bit of sound can add to a good story 🎧

Book: Lost in a Book / Music: Beauty & the Beast soundtrack (piano collection) 🎹🎼

Book: An American Tragedy / Music: 20s Jazz 🎷🎵

Sace I struggled with An American Tragedy. Dreiser does love to go on (and on and on and on.) I'm surprised his editor didn't try and trim some of the excess. 5y
laur89 @RestlessFickleBookHoarder That‘s why I realized a lot of people love or hate his work 😅😅 So far I‘m not in either group... yes, I‘ve been skimming some when I‘m on detail overload, but so far the story is keeping my attention! Even though it seems the majority of the first two parts aren‘t going to mention the crime... and that‘s why I wanted to read this! 5y
Sace @laur89 I did love the lead up and the crime. For some reason I struggle with skimming. I get it in my head that I must. read. every. word. 5y
laur89 @RestlessFickleBookHoarder I usually start to feel guilty if I skim TOO much (usually a sign I‘m going to bail), but a few pages out of 1000+... I‘m like “well I‘ve read 300, I deserve to skim 5” 🤣🤣 5y

I adored this so much. It made me want to watch the movie again.

This book shows more of the emotional development of the relationship between Belle and Beast that was skimmed over in montage form in the original animated version, with an additional plot thrown in. It fits pretty seamlessly in with the movie.

Most of the complaints I've seen on Litsy about this book are about how it's written--it's a middle grade, so keep that in mind.

I really liked the premise of this book, but was a little disappointed in its execution. I loved the idea of Belle getting LITERALLY lost in a book—something I‘ve longed to have happen to myself. However, I felt that Donnelly wrote for too young an audience. This easily could have been a book to appeal to ALL ages, but all I could think while reading was that I felt too old, which a good book should never make you feel, regardless of audience.

Beauty and the Beast is my all time favorite Disney movie and I will read anything that is about Belle. This book is about when Beast shows Belle his library. In the library she finds an enchanted book that takes her to another land. But there is evil lurking there and she has no idea how much danger she is really in. I loved being able to revisit all the characters that I loved from the movie! #24b42019
