What an incredible story.

Saroo was five years old when he got separated from his elder brother at a busy train station in India. He didn't know his surname, his mother's name or even the town where he lived.

From there Saroo eventually ended up in Australia after being adopted overseas.

Amazingly, decades later he found his birth mother.

I watched the movie Lion last night, & even though it was fantastic to see Saroo's hometown after trying to imagine what it looked like and to experience the story visually, it was different to the book and practically eliminated Saroo's older brother Kallu. It also brought forth different pieces of information which I'm not sure was true or not, as some aspects of his story were changed.
Anyway, I've been making lots of Indian dishes this week!

I'm almost at the end of this amazing story, So authentically recalled and beautifully written, taking the reader through his personal thoughts and feelings on the entire journey.
I've had goosebumps and tears for the last few chapters!

Happy to drive an hour to and an hour from work today whilst listening to 'Lion' on the way. Countryside and peace in the car.
Fascinating to hear of this young boy's life, which is similar in many ways to so many other millions of little children, except for this particular boys extraordinarily different circumstances, which lead to us having access to his amazing story.
An amazing read, I can't put it down.

I began this as an ebook over a year ago but only got a few chapters in before I had to return it.
I've borrowed it again, audio this time. Looking forward to knowing this story. I know there is a movie and I'd like to see it after I've read the book.

This book is amazing. The journey of a five year old who is lost on the streets of Calcutta (Kolkata) to being adopted is very intriguing. Once you start to read this book you are so engrossed that you don't wish to put it down. The story of determination and dedication to find his roots is very inspiring. No matter what the circumstances are always be assured that something good will happen is the message I got from this book. Movie was great

Lion - the movie - was released 4 months before I found my birth mother, so Saroo‘s story really got to me when I watched it the first time. Although the writing was simplistic, I‘m glad I finally got around to reading his book!

Progress with science and technology have led to profound breakthroughs for many adoptees. I found my birth family through Ancestry DNA testing. All I had to go on was my adoption certificate, the agency name & ⬇️⬇️

Yep!! I can definitely relate to this.

Prior to finding my birth family, I always felt that my identity was incomplete. And yes, it was a feeling of something missing. This is why I don‘t like the narrative of adoption being a clean slate for a child, because it never is, and those feelings of loss, no matter how they manifest, should not be viewed as insignificant or inappropriate.

This is a perfect example of why I don‘t like it when publishers change titles and book covers to match a movie release! My cover shows Dev Patel, and while he is definitely lovely to look at 😉, I still prefer original covers.

Today is gorgeous!! Sunny, but not too hot or humid. Taking advantage of the ☀️ to read outside!

On another note, I never like when publishers change the title of a book to match a movie title. 😕

I haven‘t seen the film, but I must have seen the trailer for it,because there were no surprises in the book. It‘s ghost written, but once you know the story the book doesn‘t actually add much.

This is on my to read list now! I watched the movie last night! Connected to his journey! As an adoptee who recently found her birth family, I totally connected to his search! Can‘t wait to read the book!

I have to admit I watch the movie first which I enjoyed a little bit more than the book. I found the book a little dry although the story is incredible and worth a read or a watch

I am thrilled that this beautiful story was adapted for film because otherwise, I may never have picked it up. I read this over the course of several weeks b/c the early chapters were so difficult to contemplate. How this remarkably industrious 5 year old managed to survive alone on the streets for weeks boggles the mind. Profoundly moving. 5 ⭐️

This novel is simply astounding. It reads like a piece of fiction, only because it's difficult to imagine these events happening, or you don't want to imagine them occurring. Saroo is lucky, profoundly lucky, and he portrays a series of difficult events in the most mature and well-adjusted manner. Truly a remarkable story, of which the movie only portrayed the top layer.

Forgive me Littens for I have sinned. I watched the movie before reading the book. I cried through the entire last half of the movie so I think I have suffered enough. Pretty sure I can't read the book now and do that to myself again. But, it is a great movie.

The plan to read has been derailed with this cuddle monster! Where is the book you ask? Underneath her. No lie. She sat on my book. ❤️🐶

I didn't get much reading done over the weekend, so I figured I would try to finish #Lion #ALongWayHome by #SarooBrierley before going on a walk

Homeward. I love living in Pennsylvania. It is such a beautiful state.

I watched #Lion for the third time last night. I started the book at the beginning of the weekend and I'm about halfway through it now. I LOVE the movie (bawl every time); so far I like the book better than the movie because there's added details that the movie leaves out and doesn't have all the movie "fluff."

Spent a brief weekend at the cottage of @jpease89 , where we read, napped, vintage shopped and discussed this book over homemade beignets 😍 she's WAY too good to me.

We both loved the story. The book was an easy and quick read, but the heavy experiences of Saroo aren't glossed over. I haven't watched the movie, but I definitely will now.

This long overdue #breakfastbookclub at the cottage was more of a #brunchbookclub since @Jenshootsweddings and I had a nap after our early morning Flea Market adventures. She brought me Beignet mix from New Orleans, so even though the book was great, we spent most of the time talking about how good the donuts were... 😍🍩🦁

I feel better today, so after I clean the rest of the house (yuck), I'm giving myself the afternoon to curl up and start/finish this in time for Breakfast Club on Sunday.

Has anyone seen Lion? For someone who very rarely sheds tears, I cried during this movie. Silent tears streamed down my face all throughout, it was so heart-wrenching. That kid in the movie - brilliant performance.
I wish people had it going better for them in this world. Truly. Especially kids.
This movie has a special place in my heart.

I've been putting down a lot of books lately, not much has been piquing my interest. Even @Jenshootsweddings (the other half of my 2-person book club) and I mutually agreed to bail on our last choice. Hopefully this one as our new pick will get me back in motion. So far, so good!

Loved this book. What an amazing story. Looking forward to seeing the film now.
