Sleeping Murder
Sleeping Murder: Miss Marple's Last Case | Agatha Christie
Soon after Gwenda moved into her new home, odd things started to happen. Despite her best efforts to modernize the house, she only succeeded in dredging up its past. Worse, she felt an irrational sense of terror every time she climbed the stairs. In fear, Gwenda turned to Miss Marple to exorcise her ghosts. Between them, they were to solve a perfect crime committed many years before.

Yummy brain candy, just as I like it. If I've got the history straight, this book was originally written in the 40s but not published until the 70s and I think the development in the writing from entries earlier in the series shows. Marple is a more even presence rather than tacked on at the end, and the sleuthing/plot flows better. Maybe I just liked it more because I guessed the culprit before the end. 😏

Oh for the days when having a house (actually being able to AFFORD a house) for ten or twelve YEARS meant you were 'restless'. 🤦🏼‍♂️...Who manages to measure anything in decades anymore?! 🤷🏼‍♂️

My last Miss Marple mystery. It‘s a good one! Well, I really enjoyed them all. Making my way through all twelve, one each month (in publication order), has been a highlight of my reading year.

I especially liked this Miss Marple! I really took my time with this one, reading it over several weeks even though it‘s fairly short. And I got totally drawn into the mystery, even trying to guess the murderer, which I never bother to do since I‘m always wrong (don‘t worry I was still wrong 😆). I feel like this one would make a great stage play.

#hyggehugs I left a family Chanukah gathering early last night cause one of the kiddos came over with a fever and I‘m mildly immunocompromised. I‘ve decided to ignore my chores and spend all morning (maybe all day) on the couch with kitty, Dame Agatha, her ghost, and a pot of tea, in an effort not to come down with whatever she has. #midwintersolace #naturalitsy @AllDebooks @TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit @jenniferw88

I liked this one quite a bit! Fast moving, solid mystery (though I did guess it pretty early on), and great characters. How did she come up with so many unique perspectives? Happy New Year‘s Eve! I‘m getting one last book or 2 in, going for a black out #BooskpinBingo card! @TheAromaofBooks #Winter Readathon @Andrea_booknerd_Jones

My first review for a while! Hello, everyone!

I love this 80s-tastic cover.

I‘ve become a decided Marple Devotee. Her gentleness, strength, wit, courage, and kindness are all on display in this, her final appearance.

LeahBergen Hello! 👋🏻 I love Miss Marple (and read all of her mysteries in my teens 😆). 4y
Libby1 Hello, @LeahBergen ! Good to see you again. I‘ve read much more Poirot than Marple and I think I need to remedy this. 4y
AlaMich Has she been stabbed in the head by the knitting needles? I‘m confused...🤔😉 4y

Completed the last novel in #ReadingMM (sigh, denial it's end ;o)

After reading her mysteries, I feel Miss Marple has led me through evils of people in her time. Plots have become predictable despite the twists.
3 & half ⭐⭐⭐ for this

Nonetheless, the company of Miss Marple makes her books a WIN for me. Will move on to the various short stories with the 'old pussy'

Still on track to finish 3 books for #NutsinMay just not the planned titles 😉

Staycation to celebrate daughter's 21st last month was cancelled (her diploma grad as well) we kept changing birthday plans as situation was not improving then.

A Rescheduled concert

Shopping trips across Causeway poof'd as neighbouring country closed that border & here we were advised against non-essential travel.

📚 Tagged for #NutsinMay tho it wasn't on initial list😉

Was looking up titles for #ReadYourSign when a #currentRead for #ReadingMM turned up (prompt - published in the year I was born ;)
Some great titles were published that year!

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1976_in_literature

Incidentally that's the year Dame Christie passed away. That book was published posthumously, some 30 years after she had written it

I read this between April 26 & 39 and rated it 4.5 ⭐️. I have not been to keen on Miss Marple, largely because in the 2 or 3 stories, I‘ve read featuring her, she really does little to solve the crime and she didn‘t seem to be the feisty lady detective I was lead to believe she was. In this book, she is very active & feisty. This is one of my favourite Christie novels.

BookishMe Not sure if you have read 4 50 from Paddington or Nemesis. She appears throughout those stories and I like them better, for her constant presence ;D 4y
Aaronlisa @BookishMe no I have not yet. I had been reading the books in order until this year when I decided to participate in the readathon that the official Christie website hosts. I will be sure to check those two out. Thanks 4y
BookishMe You're reading all the Agatha Christie books in order? I only attempted the Miss Marple series as I found myself enjoying her stories more #ReadingMM 4y

Aaronlisa @BookishMe I was trying to do it but it was hard. Then I discovered that Agatha Christie‘s website was doing a challenge this year to read 12 of her books fitting a theme and there is quite a bit of flexibility with the books. I am glad I did because I had kind of written off Miss Marple but this book was really good. 4y

This is my favourite Agatha Christie I've read so far! I loved the young couple Gwenda and Giles (the name of course reminded me of Buffy) and the course of the story was very twisty. I liked how it started out as a potential haunted house story and then veered into a cold murder case where the villain turned out to be a slut-shaming patriarch. Also, I think I am getting better at following the clues, because I guessed (correctly!) the murderer!

Last Miss Marple novel ✅
#myyearwithagatha

BookishMe 😔😔 I am not looking forward to this when I am done with #ReadingMM 4y
umbrellagirl @BookishMe This was a reread for me but I have many Poirot novels left. My goal is to finish all of the AC books this year. 4y
BookishMe @umbrellagirl have fun achieving the goal 👍🏽👍🏽 Have you completed the Ťommy and Tuppence stories? I used to read Poirot more when younger. Sometime last year, I realised I enjoyed reading Miss Marple mysteries more and decided to read her stories in order. Not going to enjoy completing MM series ;o 4y
BookishMe Rereads remain equally enjoyable! I reread this while going through the Miss Marple titles 4y

This was Miss Marple‘s last case. I kind of guessed who the killer was, but I have to admit, I loved the way it was written - the descriptions, dialogue, and suspense show a lot of growth from Ms. Marple‘s first case.

“It really is very dangerous to believe people. I never have for years.” Sage—if pessimistic—advice from Miss Marple in this, her last case. Miss Marple isn‘t as central to the action here, but she certainly helps guide our protagonists in the right direction. I enjoyed her advice and little nudges along the way, as well as the much more positive portrayal of women in this one. And I had suspicions of the murderer early on, but then I got misled!

BarbaraJean Oh! I forgot to tag this with #SeriesRead for @TheSpineView ‘s Challenge! Only one more Miss Marple to read—I have to circle back to this one still: 5y

As always Agatha Christie does not disappoint. The twist and turns and of course the unexpected ending, are the classic trademarks of an Agatha Christie novel. This is now one of my favorite novels written by her. I was so excited when I finished it. This was the 2nd book by Agatha Christie I read, only after And Then There Were None and I have to say that I was a "little" disappointed. Like the name suggests, it was about a sleeping murder, i.e., a murder that happened 18 years ago. But was that really a murder? Or was there nothing to investigate at all? Aah, you can read it out but I guess the other Christie novels would be better.?

This was a good one. A wife buys and moves into a house on the coast, only to realize she lived there as a child— and witnessed a murder there that no one else remembered. Is it worth raking up the past to find the truth?

I‘ve finished my Miss Marple reread... now what am I going to do with my life???
