I enjoyed some of the humor in this book, and the story was pretty good, but overall it was just okay. I wanted more resolution (Colin couldn‘t find some random connection to save the factory? Was there any fallout from Lindsey‘s breakup? What happened when Colin and Hassan went home?). Not bad, but not great either.

It was fine. I liked it a lot at the beginning, then halfway through I started spacing out. I‘m not even 100% sure how it ended and that doesn‘t bother me 🤷🏻‍♀️

For Wednesday‘s #bookquote, I‘m sharing this one from the book An Abundance Of Katherines by John Green. This is my favorite quote from the book. I read this book in 2015 and I really enjoyed it.

I have an abundance of thrifted John Green books but this one didn‘t work for me. I thought it was a silly premise and pointless story. I don‘t pan a book often, but I just didn‘t get anything out of this one.

Eva_B I agree. It is the one John Green book I really disliked. Disappointing 4y
marleed @Eva2 It was almost comical how pointless I found this. It was fairly short so easy to keep reading - and asking why!? 4y
Eva_B I was thinking maybe his brother Hank influenced this one. Isn‘t he the maths/science brain? They still do a vlog on you tube together. I skimmed a lot of this book 4y

So I usually enjoy John green books but to me this one was a miss. There was no real character development. The story was lacking. I don‘t really know what went wrong here because his books usually are very good.

3🌟- Generally I am not a contemporary fan I will pick one up every now and then and enjoy it. That being said I did very much enjoy this book I thought it was interesting and entertaining if a little lack lustre in a conflict. Also I felt there was no big character development. I did enjoy the inclusion of math and the appendix and footnotes I thought that was creative and different. Overall it was an enjoyable easy read

141 pages. While the main character is a prodigy and the theme - life struggles of a kid who wants to matter - is promissing, in the end the book turned out to be dull. Missed a better plot and needed more closure on some of the events and characters.

This quote honestly makes this book all worth it.

I picked up these 4 books from the opshop today while waiting for my brother to have some scans done (ooohhhh yes, kidney stones!)
My own copy of Big Magic (woo hoo!),
another Tim Winton book, Cloudstreet, highly recommended by a friend,
another John Green book (I own The Fault in our Stars),
and Great House by Nicole Krauss, which I've never heard of.
All for $6.40!

rachaich Cloudstreet is great. 5y

Curiouser_and_curiouser @Rissreads oooohhhh, great, thank you! I've read some of his book The Boy Behind the Curtain and it was ok, it was an audiobook read by Winton himself. His mood is mellow and a little somber, my friend who's read a few of his books said the same. I'm curious to read Cloudstreet now :) 5y

Colin is a child prodigy. He has dated 19 girls, all of them with name Katherine. When hes dumped by K-19, him and his friend Hassan go on a road trip for the summer and he works on a theorem that can depict when a relationsip is going to end. Being a lover of math, I thought this was such a cute book. It was a light and fast read. It made me realize the love for John Green and his writing style and how I missed reading his books.

I‘d never read a John Green book before. I know, I know. But I typically don‘t like sad or sappy books. (Before you ask, I‘ve only read a couple by Nicholas Sparks, too.) I thought this was a very cute and upbeat book. Very different from his usual style.
