Bygone Badass Broads: 52 Forgotten Women Who Changed the World
Bygone Badass Broads: 52 Forgotten Women Who Changed the World | Mackenzi Lee
49 posts | 31 read | 84 to read
Based on Mackenzi Lee's popular weekly Twitter series of the same name, Bygone Badass Broads features 52 remarkable and forgotten trailblazing women from all over the world. With tales of heroism and cunning, in-depth bios and witty storytelling, Bygone Badass Broads gives new life to these historic female pioneers. Starting in the fifth century BC and continuing to the present, the book takes a closer look at bold and inspiring women who dared to step outside the traditional gender roles of their time. Coupled with riveting illustrations and Lee's humorous and conversational storytelling style, this book is an outright celebration of the badass women who paved the way for the rest of us.

This month i did a little better than average as I did a last minute push to get my yearly totals up to 135 and make my year in review on goodreads have an even layout so I read like six books in one week.
3 eBook
9 Physical
I've managed to get my final points total for my #BuriedAliveChallenge to 11,770 with an average of 99 points per book. Clearly I need to read more of my longer owned books to get a higher average.

I'm ending my 2020 reading year with a book by the same author that I started it with. This is a quick and general overview of the accomplishments of 52 women that history doesn't really mention much. I loved the conversational tone and the gorgeous illustrations. The book is based on a series of Twitter threads that appeared weekly for a year.

Welp @TheAromaofBooks has posted the monthly reminder so here's my #BookSpin list for December. I'm still not quite up for the full bingo experience but I am looking forward to whatever the two main choices will be. I've been using the same list every month and just replacing the selections I've read. Even keeping the list static for the year only three of the original selections are still on there in large part because of the bonanza in May.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! Looks great!! 4y

So I originally curated my #BookSpin list from my Buried Alive Goodreads shelf but after seeing all the great shelf list posts I thought it would probably be a good idea to round up all the books on my list and put them together rather than the various places they were stashed all over the house.

Fulllll of slang and definitely not for everyone, I adored this collection of vignettes for super-cool ladies who throughout history have been overlooked either on purpose due to sexism or racism or both but despite their time period‘s inability to heap on the praise they deserved, they were incredibly brave and brilliant broads just like the title implies. 🙌🏻💜

Sad to say that I only know the one woman by name😅, Emmy Noether, from 52. Well, something new to learn 🤓

Nute One of the reasons why we read, right? So cool that you are going to learn something new about 51 other women besides the one that you were already familiar with. I‘m stacking so that I can get acquainted as well!🙂 5y
Deifio @Nute It was a good selection of women. Not only morally good women. The "kickass" is well deseved! Have fun reading! 5y

Loved this book so much. So inspiring, varied, and attention-grabbing. Appreciated the chronological order. Some of the writing was too colloquial/informal for me (Twitter series). I wanted more facts and less of the acronyms and commentary. Also would have liked real pictures where available along with the illustrations (which were great too). Overall, though, so glad this exists. And loved the preface and dedication to her mom 😍

This book gets a heck yes! If you, like me, like learning about all the unknown / forgotten / hidden badass women from history then this is the book for you! I'm always astounded by how many incredible women with amazing stories or who changed the world I've never learned about (thanks a lot history textbooks). I recognized a few like Hatshepsut & the Miraball sisters, but mostly lots of amazing new ladies I didn't know. Highly, highly recommend.

Blame this one on @Cinfhen ❤️😘

This is a great book for young women and older women alike. The women, from BCE to the 20th century, performed amazing feats and overcame many obstacles most commonly rampant misogyny. She included women from all over the world of many colors and sexual orientations. Their achievements were in fields including athletics, music, the military, and activism. Read this. 5⭐️

Cinfhen I‘m still making my way through this one. It‘s super informative and I‘m loving the illustrations and obscure women she choose to highlight 💋 6y

My library is starting a feminist book club and I am going to put up a display to inspire interest. I'm constantly inspired by the amazing women who've shattered stereotypes and made a difference and am using guerilla art tactics to inspire others (these cards going to be hidden in books and when folks take them home, hopefully they'll be intrigued enough to look up the stories of these rad women!)

RebelGrrrl Oh! And as with all first drafts, there's definitely an error on one of these cards. Luckily someone caught it before it went out to the world for real. (I am lucky to have great friends!) 6y

With all the quotes I've posted over the past week, it shouldn't be a surprise that I loved this book. It's all about woman who did extraordinary things, and I'd only heard of a few of them before reading. Some stories were inspiring, some were sad, and they were all super interesting.

After going to Fountain Bookstore to meet Mackenzi Lee for her new book Bygone Badass Broads, Wicket promptly got home for an introvert crash. He met Mackenzi and a bunch of our best reading/writing friends in Richmond. This is one tired dog. Ditto for me and Sheri. It is most definitely bedtime. #NightyNight #WicketsWorld #DogsOfLitsy #bedtime

AmyG Awww that face ❤️ (edited) 7y
Jess7 Soooo cute! My schnauzers would love Wicket! (edited) 7y
BillBlume @Jess7 as much as I hate to admit it. Wicket would probably not be nice to them. He LOVES people, but other dogs... as my wife has said it best, “He‘s a bit of a dick.” 7y
Jess7 Haha... I understand. Parker (5.5 yo.) would be super nice to him. He‘s incredibly chill, but if Wicket barked at him, Parker would be under my feet scared to death. He‘s big for a miniature schnauzer ( at 30 lbs) but he ran terrified from my neighbor‘s two 5-7 lb yorkie poos the other day lol. My other one Jenna (10.5 yo), while nice enough to other dogs, doesn‘t like to be messed with - so she would probably be barking back and in my lap. 🤣 7y

Mackenzi Lee managed to make her way to RVA despite the snow! She was AWESOME, just as badass as the women in her new book.
