I like this one @MoonWitch94 🎃🎃🎃
1. I like mystery. I want to figure out the puzzle
2. Serial killers scare the crap outta me so I like to read those but either one works
3. Mo Hyder books are the creepiest I‘ve ever read

“Birdman showcases Hayder at her spine-tingling best as beloved series character Jack Caffery tracks down a terrifying serial killer.”
🌟🌟
This was a completely generic serial killer read for me. Ive read tons of them and there was nothing about this one that stood out. Extremelly weak. character development. The scariests serial killers are the vile, disgusting people, it‘s the normal boy next door or extremely charming that are scary. This was all over the place shock schlock.
I loved this book, despite it being everything everyone warned about in Litsy reviews: gritty, dark, sadistic, frightening. Also so well written, with terrific characters. I often look up a book to see what other littens think of it, and I wasn‘t surprised to see @Andrew65 , @TrishB and others are fans of Mo‘s work. I looked her up to see if she has any new work forthcoming, and discovered the sad news in the photo.
My #BookSpin list Bingo card! I had to tweak it yesterday because one book was due back at the library and another has holds, so I decided not to add it. But it‘s a good list full of series that are new to me as well as some I‘m deeply invested in already. And some summer-y reads. Gotta read them in the summer!
@TheAromaofBooks
My current read. On my July AND August Bookspin list, cuz I won‘t be finishing it tonight. It‘s really good and I‘m hooked. But I have such annoyance over men who can‘t extricate themselves from young and clearly useless women. WTF dudes?
We went to our favorite local winery this weekend! Lovely evening.
Loved this. Brutal, gory, creepy. Reminded me a lot of Slaughter, or vice versa.
Great read.
Brutal, action packed, gory, creepy, brilliant!
Books 📖 and lip balm!

Thanks @Cathythoughts for the tag.

Decided I was starting a new series today. It was going to be the Ruth Galloway series, but this one seemed to shout louder. I‘ve read one of the stand alones and enjoyed, so hoping this is good.
#20series20days @Andrew65
The jack caffrey series by mo hayder has fluctuated but overall has a great Central troubled character with an interesting back story which gradually emerged and kept me hooked from that very troubling 1st book birdman. The last one was a few years ago and i can't find anything on line about the author writing any new books but hopefully she hasn't abandoned writing great thrillers.
Day 5 - #BirdOnTheCover #BloomingBibliophiles
#Birdman #MoHayder
Gritty book. Setting is Millennium Dome Site, Greenwich, England. 5 corpses found & all young woman with no missing persons reported. The sexual serial killer is named Birdman, Hayder has refined her craft & used her imagination. I have found DI Jack Caffery to be very interesting character & look forward to reading more about him in future books. I do recommend this series.
Thank you Ali 😘 I love them! Wanted to start this series for ages too.
PS. You‘ll always be a pen pal ♥️
Have heard this one will give me nightmares. #StartASeries
A sadistic killer is a #PsychoKiller to me.
Was reminded of this book just a few days ago.
#marchintothe70s @Lizpixie @Cinfhen
Definitely fits into the gritty crime books field. Overall despite the gritty and dark nature of the books, this was an excellent read. I look forward to continuing this series and getting to know the main character better. There is certainly plenty of potential in this series and I would recommend if you are happy with this style of books. @EadieB @Tove_Reads @Kappadeemom @TiredLibrarian

Question below for you @EadieB and @Tove_Reads if you have read up to chapter 10, which I have just finished.
Or for any other initial discussion about the first part of the book.
Starting the Jack Caffery Series which I am reading with @Tove_Reads and @EadieB
Others are more than welcome to join us, we are looking to read the other books in the series (7 books in total) throughout 2019.
Buddy read starting tomorrow! 4 days, 13 chapters per day. @EadieB @Andrew65 Everyone is welcome to join us! We are reading three thriller/mystery series as buddy reads In 2019, this is the second one we‘re starting! #buddymo
This #thriller might not be among the "classic" Halloween-y #spookybooks, but boy did this book spook me. I've read most of the other books in the Jack Caffery series. They are good but none of them is as good as this first one. Probably because I didn't yet know what to expect of a book by Mo Hayder.
#31bookpics @howjessreads - Thank you for hosting this photochallenge.
#OctoberXFiles @Robothugs @Cinfhen - I couldn't not use this to catch up
Congratulations on your #litsymilestone @monalyisha !! Birdman is my pick. I am a die-hard Mo fan, until the bitter end, and Birdman kicks off the Jack Caffrey series with a creeptastic bang! #lilnuggiveaway #mohayder #birdman
There are very few books are a big #NO when people ask me for a book recommendation. This book is one of them. I would say it‘s probably one of the darkest, if not the darkest book I‘ve ever read. I still think about this book and not much in a good way! 😳 #getmovin
#TuesdayTidbits @JenlovesJT47
1) either 'Blindsighted' by Karin Slaughter, or 'Birdman' or 'Tokyo' by Mo Hayder
2) 12 monkeys? American Psycho?
3) seeing my spinal tap results and knowing what they were telling before the doctor opened his mouth
4) well, @LauraBeth
@JenlovesJT47 is hosting a #SKgiveaway! So nice of you to #payitforward! My book rec is Birdman by Mo Hayder though it's not for the faint of heart!
Definitely the darkest and most graphic psychological thriller I‘ve read. I wouldn‘t recommend this to a lot of people. There was a bit of it that I even said yuck out loud. With that I also wouldn‘t say it‘s the fastest paced thriller. It was more of a police procedural to me. I liked it though! I‘d give it a 3🌟
This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. It‘s darker than most psychological thrillers that I‘ve read. But still good! I‘m balancing out the darkness with Love Actually! I love love love Love Actually!
And they both are out! It was a whirlwind in our house with family over for Thanksgiving. Theo played hard with my nephew Milo and my husband worked hard. It will be a quiet evening for me to read at our house tonight! 🤗 Hope everyone has had a wonderful day!
Getting a little reading in before cleaning and bathing a Pug this morning! Getting ready for the family Thanksgiving. 🤗
Starting the day with a new author and a new book. Hoping this pulls me out of my reading slump. Heard a lot of good about this book! Happy Monday, Littens! 🤗
#bookmail yayy!!!! I have one more book coming from #bookdepository. I‘m officially putting myself on a book buying ban until after Christmas. Outside of #pagehabit and #botm I am going to try my hardest to read what I own and not buy anything except for book swaps. (I can‘t make any promises about Black Friday but I will try! 😂)
Not sure it's entirely smart to start a book at bedtime that says "it will scare the hell out of you!" ??
Okay, one last post for the day because Tauntaun is being the cutest reading companion! #catsoflitsy
My current read is a #onewordtitle for today's #riotgrams!
I read the second book in this series a few years ago and am finally going back to the first one to fill in some background.
I began reading this book only a few hours ago and it's totally mind-blowing! It's the first book I read by Mo Hayder. How's your creepy #Booktober going, lovely people? 😊📚☔

I felt like this one was more interested in exploring gore and the violence and sadism of the perp than putting together an actual mystery. Relied too heavily on gimmicks, and I wasn't in love with any of the characters, sadly.
I don't know about this one, guys. By page 150, we know who did it, why he did it, and how he did. So now I'm just reading about a detective getting misdirected by his bigoted coworker and tortured by his personal life? There better be an epic twist in all of this, I'm telling you... #biblioweekend

I have to work today but I'm off tomorrow and Monday and these are my #biblioweekend reading goals. I'm almost done with Torch, and more than halfway through Birdman, so it's totally doable, right?
If you like your thrillers layered and moody, give BIRDMAN a try. I first read this British series because Karin Slaughter mentioned it's one of her favorites; it's similarly dark and occasionally gory, but it also places an emphasis on character.
Fair warning: books 1, 2, and 7 are incredible--there are scenes that still haunt me years later. But the others are much less consistent.
Pretty interesting so far. A little jerky, maybe a touch formulaic so far. I'm waiting to connect with Jack Caffery, but it has some promise.
