Dystopia - The women are allowed only 100 words a day. And if they don't comply, it could be FATAL.
Having read “The handmaid's tale,“ I think it's difficult to beat that. But it's wrong to compare too. I still feel Vox is well written and interesting too. It made me think, it made me angry, just what the author wanted and what an amazing closing line it was!
Definitely a pick, although there was a lot that could have been done.
4/5🌟
I mean…hard not to feel this *could* happen in the US. So obviously, this was enraging. My issue was the sheer flippancy and “lol whatever, do what I say” of some of the men…it took some of the teeth out of it. Also the science felt too easy. Of the many novels Handmaid‘s has inspired, this wasn‘t my fave but also wasn‘t my least fave.
Just feeling a little too “real” right now. Not quite the Handmaid‘s Tale but not too far off.
Happy National Hang Out Day Y‘All!

A good read to start to Women‘s History Month! When crazies brainwash others for control, in this case silencing women to 100 words a day and taking away any sort of independence. I did cringe when people were sent to Fort Meade. I live down the road and can hear the shooting range when I‘m doing yard work 😬

Misty!!! What an unexpected and wonderful surprise 💖💖💖 You always make my heart smile my friend. Thank you so much!! I 💛 you !
Sorry @Cortg I‘m a lousy buddy-read partner. I think the premise had potential but the execution wasn‘t quite right. The plot felt a bit implausible & the author drew the MC in such an unflattering light that no matter the outcome I was never going to respect her. Plus there was too much we were asked to accept off page. Between a so-so & pan. #SocialHorror #PoP22
I‘ve started my #SocialHorror book #pop22 @Cortg
No pressure to read right away.
It‘s easy to get lost in but the premise seems wayyyy to far-fetched. #DystopianHorror
Maybe a better concept than execution for me. It started out a pretty strong dystopian tale, but the end felt more like a thriller. A difficult read in terms of how plausible the concept is, but a quick read in terms of the prose. A low pick for me. #doublespin @TheAromaofBooks
Really wasn‘t a big fan of this. I like dystopians but I thought this was gonna be different. Also I wish I‘d had the foresight to check Libby before I got this ebook. 😞
I‘m switching out my Social Horror book to the tagged book because it occurred to me that I own it (yay, Dollar Tree find) and I think it fits the prompt 🤔 #Pop22
Trying to picture a world where women can only say 100 words a day and it just seems crazy.
⭐⭐
I started reading this book after it was first released a few years ago, but only got about 1/4 of the way through it at the time. Finally decided to start over and plug through. The premise is interesting, and reminiscent of The Handmaid's Tale, but unfortunately begs the comparison and then falls short. While I connected with the horror of possibility of a world where women are - literally- silenced, I felt no connection to the characters.

I‘m only on chapter 9 and already having very strong feelings about this and how much some of it resonates with things going on today.
100 words a day… What would you say and to whom with only 100 words in a day? I would tell my loved ones I love them everyday… 🥲😡 lots of emotions right now.
Starting this one day… I can already tell that I‘m going to be terrified, angry, and full of emotion. Something just keeps telling me to read it.
Let‘s begin…
“Think about waking up one morning and finding you don‘t have a voice in anything.”
I fear that if things don‘t change quickly we could be facing these fears! Use your voice by voting and stand up for what you believe in!!

This book ended quickly, but it was very scary. It is alarming when you read it and look at what is happening to womxn in the US (and everywhere). Imagine a world where you are silenced, in every way possible. Where misogyny is taught and embraced in schools. Where you are property. That‘s VOX. That‘s the wet dream of the alt right. So? Think about what you need to do to stay free.

The first part of this book sucked me in and terrified me! And then it kind of fizzled...

What are you reading? 😊
Cool concept. Scarily possible. Started this book last year and moved away, came back home for a visit and finished it off.
This is a dystopian book that is about a future in which women lose their voices. To be more accurate, their voices are taken away by a government run by misogynistic men who create wrist counters that limit women to 100 words a day. This chilling book shows what the world would be like if women‘s rights are fully taken away and how easy it would be for something like this to happen. If you love The Handmaid‘s Tale, this book is for you.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wow! So very good!! Women can only say 100 words per day. Men rule. There were women who tried to worn of what was coming and no one would listen.
I used to believe this type of scenario was impossible. Now this seems all too possible and real.
As a blurb, Vox is great: I‘d love to understand what might happen in a world where women are literally silenced! But it‘s a premise in search of a plot that could do it justice. Dalcher would have done better to let this one marinate for longer, maybe come at it with a broader view and a bit more distance from the realities of the past few years. Full review: https://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/vox-christina-dalcher/
This book was terrifying, and not far from reality. Women all over the world have been silenced for too long. The author wrote in a voice that drew me in and kept me wanting more, which made the ending that much more upsetting. It was rushed! I would have liked more detail about the after effects of the rebellion, and the satisfaction of reading about the fall of those men who silenced Jean and her daughter for so long.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Themes of patriarchy and oppression, the cost of freedom and the power of words.
A dystopian present novel paced like a thriller, Christina Dalcher‘s debut is a cautionary tale about how quickly the world around us can change while we‘re not paying enough attention. The plot is plausibly uncomfortable, but an absolute page-turner nonetheless. Kept my heart racing - both from blood-boiling fury and chilling suspense.

I listened to the audio and was engrossed. Not the best dystopian novel ever, but it did make me feel uncomfortable.
My husband got me some book nerd stuff for V🖤Day!
A book seat, a finger placement (holds back the pages to prevent your fingers from getting tired and hurting) and a shirt.
A note on the book I‘m reading—I was 35 pages in and terrified. With every page I just get more pissed off! This is a lot like The Handmaid‘s Tale.
I love looking at pics of peoples‘ book stacks. I look to see which ones I‘ve read. I look to see what kinds of titles and authors the person chooses to get a feel for what that person might be like. Here are a few shots from some of my shelves ☺️
Neither the best dystopian fiction novel I've read, nor the worst. Interesting concept and started as an excellent psychological horror. Sadly I found the second half less plausible and it lost stars for me at that point. Tried to do too much in too few pages.
Next up is Vox... I'm a few chapters in and the author's voice is very engaging. I was expecting to hate this, but so far it's getting under my skin. I guess not being able to speak is one of my worst nightmares!!

Let's do this thing!!!!!!!! (I should probably stop posting on here and start reading some books... I'm just so easily distracted... especially checking out everyone else's TBR....)
