Smart and unflinching, this #OwnVoices debut contemporary novel stars an ambitious college student who refuses to be defined by her central auditory processing disorder. Edie Kits has a learning disability. Well, not a learning disability exactly, but a disability that impacts her learning. It isnt visible, it isnt obvious, and it isnt something she likes to advertise. In fact, shes successfully hidden it from nearly everyone in her life, including her college roommate and best friend, Serena. And for the first half of her freshman year, she has managed without assistance. Edie thought she was in control of her disability, until she meets her match with French 101 and a professor unwilling to hear her out. Edie finds herself caught between getting the help she needs and convincing her professor that she isnt looking for an easy out. Luckily for her, Hudson, the badly dressed but undoubtedly adorable TA in her French class, ambles in to help her out . . . Chosen by readers like you for Macmillan's young adult imprint Swoon Reads, Meet Me in Outer Space is a sweet, heartachingly real story of love and college life by debut author Melinda Grace. Praise for Meet Me in Outer Space from the Swoon Reads community: A smart romantic dramedy that retells common college experiences from a fresh and unique point of view. ... It will make you think and laugh. And you may learn a little bit of French along the way. S.C. McMurray, reader on SwoonReads.com I can relate to Edie. I don't have CAPD but I have ADHD and that makes everything study related/ everyday functioning super hard. Reading on because this hit so close home. Tara Olivia, reader on SwoonReads.com

This was a beautiful and different story. I loved having a story about a girl who has a learning disability in College its like nothing i have read before. It is magnificent.

I am behind on the weekly check in for week 1 in round three. I started reading Kitchen Confidential and just didnt like it. Meh. I think cooking is interesting and i still want to read a non fiction book about being in the kitchen. But just not that one.

I have done a lot of hiking in the last five days as i was camping in Baliey CO. I am home and ready to face the week.

#BFC19 #Round3

WhatWouldJaneDo I love Anthony Bourdain but Kitchen Confidential was pretty meh for me as well. I really liked Life on the Line by Grant Achatz and Yes Chef by Marcus Samuelson for cooking memoirs. 5y

Edie has a disability that impacts her learning. It isn't visible, it isn't obvious, and it isn't something she likes to advertise.

And for three semesters, her hard work and perseverance carried her through. She thinks she has her disability under control until... French 102, and meeting a professor unwilling to help. She finds herself caught between getting the help she needs and convincing her professor that shes not looking for an easy out.

KS1805 I think I‘ll have to add this book to want to read. I am trying to read more diverse books but haven‘t added any disability books to my TBR. 6y
Gina Not only do I run a home for people with disablities I also havr a child with Asbergers Autism. This book just hit the top of my TBR list! Sweet! 6y
Gina @KS1805 You might also want to check out... it is fiction but based on the authors fight with crippling anxiety 6y

KS1805 @Gina I‘m adding it to my TBR. Thanks! 6y
Gina @KS1805 I swear this is the last one. Again this is fictional but this one is about autism and it was so amazing that they made a play out of it which visually looks outstanding. Being in the field I search these books out. 😁😀😃 6y
HiddenGemBooks @Gina @KS1805 yes, turtles all the way down is definitely a fantastic book to delve into this genre. I clinically have Aspergers myself, and not “school smart” but have different strengths I can bring to the table. I love books that reflect and promote dis*ABLE*ments 😉❤️ 6y
KS1805 @Gina suggest as many books as you love! That‘s why I‘m here! @HiddenGemBooks I‘m heading to the library today, with your seconding Turtles, I‘ll pick it up. Thanks! 6y
