It was pretty close. I had a tough time deciding if the tagged was my favorite read or House of Sky and Breath. I chose the tagged because it set me off to reading all the books in the series! (Currently have finished 3)

However, it can‘t beat Veronica Speedwell.

This is the first book in a new to me series, that was published in 2014. Amory goes to a seaside hotel with her ex-fiancé to help him out. Armory‘s husband follows and a murder happens. I could help but compare this to the Verity Kent series. However, unlike that series, I want Amory and Milo to work it out!

Loved it. Classic murder mystery and fun read!

A charming little detective novel set in the 30s. One could argue a little clichéd, hotel at the seaside, terribly wealthy characters, devilishly handsome husband and tenacious, intelligent wife determined to solve the case. However, if you have a fondness for Agatha Christie and want a light- read, dispite the three murders, this will delight. Could see it becoming a series on TV. I shall read the subsequent novels which follow this debut.

Fun, light seaside mystery set in the 1930's. A few times the author gave herself away as an American, but it doesn't take away from the fun. Great summer read.

Reading the tagged, set at a beach resort in the 1930s. I had never heard of beach pajamas, totally fell down an internet rabbit hole of beautiful style! I want them all!

This was fun. Light and humorous.

This was a fast, enjoyable read. This first-in-series cozy started slow but picked up speed nicely, as the fraught relationship between Amory and her charming husband Milo unfolds. The audiobook was very nicely narrated too by #BillieFulfordBrown. #AmoryAmes #cozymystery

Started reading this series at the beginning of this month and I am head over heels for Amory and her husband, Milo. Cozy mystery series staring a wife and husband team (though mostly wife) with some romance thrown in there. I'm so invested in their partnership. I've sped through 3 of the 6 books in no time and have the next one waiting for me.
Highly recommend this series if you're looking for something a bit lighter in these stressful times.

1. I‘ve read a few series, but it seems I rarely keep up with them anymore. The Amory Ames series is one exception.
2. Immersive, enjoyable and extremely well-written.
3. I finished I Was Anastasia on Monday. Haven‘t been that engrossed in a book in a long time. 😁

I felt like both the action and the dialogue dragged in this mystery. I didn‘t find it a page turner and struggled not to DNF the book. I felt the characters received a superficial treatment. The murder investigation was less investigation and more an impulse of a bored, well-to-do woman. I like a good period mystery but was disappointed by this work.

In the end, it was disappointing.

The mystery was never very engaging. It was always quite a mess and that's exactly how it ended.

I really liked the difficult relationship between the two main characters. That's what kept me reading into the night. But in the end it risolvere a bit too easily, after the situation became very entangled.
I was happy for them, but it still felt a bit too convenient.

I still enjoyed it. Mostly.

3. Depth by Lev Rosen. I've had it on my TBR shelf for a year.

I abandoned the last two novels l attempted to read. Let's see whether this new one will shatter the spell.

I just can‘t read books this fluffy. Is it a murder mystery with a side of romance? I can see its value for others but not my thing.

I've been debating whether to try this, especially considering the summer theme. But then l thought, why not?

Most people seem to find this a charming cozy mystery, and many compare it to Agatha Christie‘s style. I thought it far from charming—instead clunky, irritating, and pretty much ridiculous. Instead of being a smart amateur sleuth (as billed), Amory reminded me a bit of Lucy Ricardo in I Love Lucy—a major bumbler.

I liked this one very much. Amory Ames makes a smart and sophisticated amateur sleuth and Milo is just the sort of roguish hero I most enjoy. The period setting and the witty banter was very well done. I'll definitely be reading the next one in this series. This makes a total of 7 books for me in #cozyinthesun

Book 6 of #24B4Monday is likely to be my last #cozyinthesun this July. I've loved seeing everyone's posts and have added so many new titles to my tbr I'll have brand new slueths to last me all winter. I'm definitely planning to keep reading the Amory Amos series. The 30s is such a fun setting! And the writing here was really sharp.

Armory Ames, a socialite in an unhappy marriage, gets invited to a beach resort by her former fiancée. She ends up getting embroiled in the murder investigation of another guest. A great start to Armory‘s mystery series.

Absolutely delightful! A mystery with a few twists set in 1930s, this is a good start to the Amory Ames series. I‘m not 100% sure Weaver has the 1930s language down quite right, but it‘s definitely a different language pattern from today. I did get slightly annoyed with the love triangle, but happy am happy with the resolution at the end.

My mystery book discussion group is discussing this one Thursday night. I‘m loving it so far! It‘s perfect fluff. And, #CozyInTheSun participants, this is a cozy. I may have to look for book two to read in July!

More like Georgette Heyer than Agatha Christie, this was a slightly fluffy, yet entertaining mystery. Perfect for the beach, or an ugly gray winter‘s day in the Midwest. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Loved this! First in a series following an aristocratic woman and her husband as they solve murders and deal (or not) with their complicated marriage. It‘s like if Agatha Christie wrote an episode of Downton Abbey.

I‘m in the mood for a mystery. Thought I would give this series a try!

This started well, interesting character, intriguing hook, a feeling that the author had done her research into the period. But once the murder is discovered it all went a bit turgid. There was a lack of energy and direction to the investigation. I have tried to finish it several times now and it just can't keep my attention.

I have been all about the historical mysteries as of late...found the humor in this 👌🏻

I basically wanted something a bit like Mary Stewart, a bit like Kerry Greenwood, that sort of thing. This worked: it's not exactly astonishing in any way, but I enjoyed it. Amory isn't as distinctive as Phryne and I doubt she'll stick with me, but she wasn't bad to spend the time with. I am curious about Milo and what his issue is/was. Amory might not have noticed he didn't explain his absences, but I did!

Good mystery. Not quite the caliber of Agatha Christie, but similar in setting and plot: 1932 English seaside resort. I also love the style of the cover art.

It's the author's first novel so I can forgive some clunkiness, but the real problem is with core of the series: the relationship between the protagonist & her husband. He's supposed to be a charming cad but he's nowhere near as charming as the author expects you'll find him. Not terrible, just meh.
