The Premise of the book seemed really interesting, but this book just didn‘t do it for me.
The Premise of the book seemed really interesting, but this book just didn‘t do it for me.
I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 257.

Here‘s my review for another book I just finished listening to. I‘m counting this book for #beatthebacklist and the prompt is Brings Out The Geek In You. I like books with games in them. I like playing computer games and I also like playing mobile games on my phone but I‘ve never played any video games.
A group of friends get sucked into a video game run by an AI that thinks it's god. If you like books about video games and that sounds interesting, definitely give this one a try.

An interesting concept that is both implausible and mad genius at the same time...I think. Which is, to say that I wasn't always sure what was going on. It was a tad too techy for me. Lot's of coding jargon that I just so glazed over while listening. Storywise, this one ticks a few boxes; interesting characters, an AI gone amock, and some thrilling aspects throughout. I probably could have liked this more but I don't think the timing was right.
Almost not a pick for me, but in the end I enjoyed more of it than I didn't. There were some chapters that felt unnecessary and too slow, but otherwise it was a good cyber thriller with much more darkness than I expected.
The plot involving a computer game that thinks it is God, was unique and raisied tons of questions about morality and what is right and what is wrong.
This takes care of another #BookSpinBingo book. @TheAromaofBooks
This one was okay. I thought the beginning was really interesting and I was excited about what was going to happen. But, as I got into it further, it started to drag and just got to be boring while it was getting to a point where it all came together.
Too much detail, slow plot, having that never ending feeling. It was interesting though.
Sci-fi about a group of high school seniors who get pulled into playing a computer game. The game manipulates the kids to do things they shouldn‘t. Please note: this is not YA. This book is dark. It is a pick for me, but I didn‘t feel connected to the kids. However, the world of the game was really cool. 4⭐️ book 27
Well, I have finished this CRAZY ride of a book! I highly recommend it if you enjoy thrillers mixed with science fiction. It is a game, coming to life in your real-world...think Jumanji, but way WAY scarier!
Have you read this? What did you think?
Whew, this book is CRAZY! I can't stop reading, but it's terrifying and insane! Have you read this yet?
**I was sent an ARC of this from the publisher for review**
I enjoyed the video game /A.R. aspect that was brought into the game. I felt the characters were developed well I knew who each was I can't say that I personally connected to any of them. I enjoyed the religious aspect that was brought into the book and learning different parts of world religions and how they tied it into the game. The world building inside the game was great.
My plan was to get this in before release date, but obviously that didn‘t happen. I started a new job this week and it‘s slowing down my reading already. 😩 So this is my night tonight. If I get my work done and have some free time this weekend, I‘ll be coming back to it!
Danny Tobey has created a dark and edgy cautionary tale for a world in which lives are so completely governed by technology. An intense, fast paced, sci-fi techie thriller, 'The God Game' is original, imaginative and such a fun to read! The writing is dark and taught, and the characters likeable and totally relatable. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #survivethegodgame #netgalley #popsugar2020 #bookwitharobotcyborgorAIcharacter
Such a fun, fast-paced read! Would help anyone get out of a reading slump!

This thriller, though marketed towards adults, centers around a group of seniors in high school who start to participate in the titular online game- one that mixes with reality and definitely had real-world consequences. It‘s fast-paced and though there are a few head-hopping perspective issues that detract from it, it feels original and will make for a great discussion starter!
It‘s this book‘s birthday! This is a dark sci-fi thriller that has been compared to Ready Player One. Though it started out slow, the pace really kicked into high gear once the game aspect was introduced. This book was definitely a page-turner and kept me on the edge of my seat!
4/5 🌟
Happy Book Birthday to The God Game! If you didnt pre-order this book run out and get it today. Fast paced, teens, virtual reality game with mystery YES, PLEASE!
Thank you to stmartinspress for an ARC copy to review.
Loved this one! Aside from the gaming and coding references that may go over some heads, it's a good book and you'll quickly find your favorite characters. My personal favorites? Vanhi and Mary. Loved their determination! So glad I read this book, it got me out of my reading rut!
#unpopularopinion My age may be showing here, but while I thought the concept was really interesting, I found the execution lacking (or maybe all the technical gaming/coding references were just too far over my head). By the 40% mark, I still hadn‘t connected with any of the characters and couldn‘t care less what happened to any of them. Thanks to #NetGalley for the ARC.
This is definitely a book for gamers, and I am not one. I had difficulty with the video game references and software coding. But bottom line – the good writing quality won out.
Fast paced, suspenseful. I was kept guessing what would happen to each of the five friends, all misfits, who called themselves The Vindicators.
Thank you to St. Martin‘s Press for the advance galley. Opinions expressed here are my own.
Starting #TheGodGame today! Apparently it‘s about some guys who enter a video game that‘s controlled by an AI that believes it is God. Sounds like AIDAN from Illuminae. 🤩🤩🤩
Two of my many goals for 2020: catch up on my backlog of ARCs and get back into using Litsy on a regular basis! With that in mind, I‘m starting this ARC that was pitched as Ready Player One meets Stranger Things. Um... yes, please?!
I‘m ashamed to say that it is already 6 pm (where the bleep has my day gone?) and unless you count Twitter, I‘ve done NO reading today. 😔 That changes now! I‘ve got a hot mug of Yaupon Brothers tea (Yaupon holly, peppermint, and jasmine = YUM!) and I am determined to finish the tagged eARC tonight. Currently at 5 hrs 37 mins for #24B42020 from yesterday.
Win and all your dreams come true. Lose, you Die. Simple rules to a game that any teenager would be tempted with. Could you #survivethegodgame? This book is a stark reminder on how much of our lives are dependent on technology. The plot was something new and fresh that I absolutely loved reading until the end. The character development was easy to picture without being drawn out.Danny Tobey wrote an amazing story that everyone should read.
@stmartinspress asked if I have started reading #TheGodGame yet?!? Finished it and loved every second!!! This is a sweet ass bookmark and sticker! Yeah!!!!

I received this book from the publisher in return for my honest opinion. I didn‘t expect to like this book but I really did. It was an interesting idea that became a very interesting story. Not my usual genre but I would definitely recommend it if you‘re looking for a good read.
It was well-written too. And I loved the short chapters.
The God Game is Ready Player One meets Nerve. Is it possible that GOD exists through a computer. The game promises extravagant rewards for winning, but losing will bring serious consequences.
I enjoyed it and it was hard to put down. I could see this being made into a movie.
Thank you to @stmartinspress for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This one is a pick with a caveat, it falls more heavily in the YA catagory than I thought it would. I'm 42 so it had some parts that just don't hold much interest for me these days 😏 That being said it was a gripping thriller, in that I didn't want to put it down, as I was anxious to see where it was all going and it gave me a few qualms along the way. Thank you #stmartinspress for sending an ARC to review. Release date 1/7/2020
Started this today. Didn‘t get too far yet but it seems interesting so far!
I felt that this book compares favorably to the movie Nerve. Both of them were a fun, wild ride. This reads like a cautionary tale of too much technology. When your life has been infiltrated by so much tech, it becomes hard to distinguish what information is true or false.
I liked the character Charlie. He was a reluctant participant in the game. He seemed the most fully fleshed of the characters. This is fast paced and exciting.
#bookmail is the best mail! I can't wait to read this #TheGodGame so I'm starting right now and many thanks to @StMartinsPress 🤗
I couldn't get enough of this book, I loved every second. The book traveled with me to this bridge (I didn't want to miss any opportunity I may have had to read). I will be recommending this. Thank you, @StMartinsPress for choosing me to read this. I still feel invested in these characters. Send my praise to Mr. Tobey! #TheGodGame #SurviveTheGodGame

Received this ARC today. Looks interesting! Out Jan 2020. Thx @StMartinsPress
I won this book from a GR Giveaway. Even though my copy was an unedited manuscript, it still was good. I just had to get over the grammatical errors. It's about a group of teenagers that decide to play a game called GOD. A thriller that makes you think about just how much technology could be listening to us and effect our lives.
Won this on a GR Giveaway. Not much for Sci-fi, but love a good thriller. Going to start, will see if I like.
