Uhh parts were good I guess
Someone recently told me that George MacDonald was their favorite author.
I had never heard of him, so I decided to give this short audiobook a go.
Not for me.
I can see how fantasy readers would enjoy this, but I have come to the conclusion that fantasy will never be my jam.
It‘s a snowy day here, and could possibly see 20 inches by tomorrow. I wish I could post a video of these huge, silent flakes; it‘s like a snow globe outside! Silver and I are relaxing: He‘s on his dog bed and I‘m on the couch with the tagged book and a cup of peppermint mocha coffee.
I have had this book awhile on my kindle app, so I decided to pick a book off of the app and read it. I liked the book a lot. It was a classic. I am going to if I can find the second book in the series. I rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars.
A classic fantasy tale for children that influenced JRR Tolkien and others.

Book 28🎧
Growing up I loved this movie!💕 I never realized it was a book until recently, and from 1872 no less!😮
A very cute story with very good manners☺️
My first class officially starts today, and it still doesn't feel real that I get to read books like this for grad school. My nerdy heart is happy 🐉⚔🏰
For today‘s #LittensDressedInBlood prompt, a book that reminds you of Autumn, I chose this one.
Mom would always pack away any Halloween books/movies until fall came around, so the VHS was only out for a few months a year. My brother and I loved the movie and when I found a copy of the book, I couldn‘t believe it! I had no idea it was originally a book! I love both versions, despite some drastic differences and I need to find and read the sequel.
I've never read George MacDonald & decided to join in for #ChildrensClassicRead2021 for January. I enjoyed it; lovely writing & there were a fair bit of surprising elements in it that spoke of Victorian social issues, perhaps? Miners, the labouring class, magic, the monarchy, faith, enchantment, & maybe even a bit of Darwinism. It comes as no surprise that MacDonald had an impact on writers like C.S. Lewis, Lewis Carroll, Tolkien. @TheBookHippie
I am familiar with some of George MacDonald's Christian fiction having read The Laird's Inheritance, so imagine my surprise when I learn he is considered the "Father of Fantasy." MacDonald can tell a great story no matter the genre. I would love to have this book adapted to film just to see Curdie's and the Goblin Queen's stamping battle. What a fun scene. Thanks @TheBookHippie for another great read. #ChildrensClassicsRead.
True, her hands were hard and chapped and large, but it was with work for them; and therefore, in the sight of the angels, her hands were so much the more beautiful.
I love this line. #ChildrensClassicRead @thebookhippie
I can‘t believe I didn‘t know about this story before. My only complaint is that now I need to track down the sequel. I can‘t wait to give this to the kiddo to read. Thanks @TheBookHippie for putting this on my radar! #ChildrensClassicRead2021
5/5 🌟
Wow! This has become my favorite fairytale...EVER! Beautiful imagery, heartwarming characters, lovely story, and so fun!
One of my favorite lines reads: “Curdie burst in, dancing and gyrating and stamping and singing like a small incarnate whirlwind.” 😂
I could totally imagine this as a Princess Bride type of movie!
Thanks so much @TheBookHippie for introducing me to this charming tale!
#ChidrensClassicRead2021
I‘m just diving into this book, and all I can say so far is I love this introduction. Just wanted to say so. Now to begin the actual story.
Found some books I read as a kid in this adorable local bookstore. Of course I had to grab them and will have to return for all the others I left behind. 📚
The kids totally lost interest, but I feel compelled to finish it.

"It was foolish indeed—thus to run farther and farther from all who could help her, as if she had been seeking a fit spot for the goblin creature to eat her in his leisure; but that is the way fear serves us: it always sides with the thing we are afraid of."

My only complaint with this book is that I didn‘t find it sooner, like when I was about ten or so. It was beautifully written, and as stated elsewhere, really set the foundation for Tolkien and Lewis. It was just so much fun to read, I felt ten years old again. AND, it had one of the least annoying princess in a story ever.
Squeezing in a little reading time while the kids get their hair cut.
I have been looking for a copy of this for ages, and was so happy to receive it from my mom!!! Best part is that it is an ex library book, and still has the check out card inside....with the kid‘s signatures.
I had never even heard of this children‘s book until recently. I quite enjoyed it. It has some lovely things to say, especially about accepting things people say as being true for them and not judging harshly before learning more. Unfortunately, though, the goblins are made out to have no redeeming qualities whatsoever and their demise is horrible.
Finished this as part of my #11thhourreadathon
Now onto some poetry!
I still have a couple of Challenge books I‘m trying to finish: the one above and A Christmas Carol. I will definitely finish those with a good 6 hours on my hands today and again tomorrow. I have other books that are not specifically for a challenge that I want to read too.
My one-year-old has suddenly started waking up in the middle of the night (thankfully not every night). So I loaded up on reading material for sitting in a dark nursery endlessly shushing at 3 a.m.
I'm reading the Princess and the Goblin on serial reader. Not sure what I think about it yet, but I just loved this quote! I *think* we are all hoping to be understood, but sometimes in order for others to be willing to understand us, we must be willing to understand them first. Came at a great time for me.
Interior art in this #FolioSociety edition is making me lightheaded. Commence swooning....
#FolioFreaks
This is for my #FolioSociety enabler and fellow #FolioFreak @Kalalalatja - luckily I found a very reasonably priced edition online still in shrinkwrap. Pristine condition 🙀
Thank you, book gods!
My wallet hate me for loving Folio Society's books, but I don't really care 💸💸 but otherwise I don't really hate that I love any of my books. Hate is such a strong word, and I could never hate any of my books 😄❤

Folio delivery! 😍😍😍 Just for you @freyaheart
My folio books have arrived!!! Even the box is beautiful. 😍😍😍😍
This is a classic fairytale that does not get the credit it deserves. C'mon Disney. Time to make this a hit movie.
This is what #readinginbed looked like this morning: Baby and I read a chapter of The Princess and the Goblin aloud on #SerialReader while she ate (we've been reading it together since she was still in the womb, so thanks @SerialReader !), and then I read Zodiac on the Kindle as she fell asleep. 😊 #PhotoadayNov16 @RealLifeReading
Just found out that the Savers behind our building sells books for $2-3 each! I got this stack, four children's books, and three kid's puzzles for $35! My bank account is both thanking and cursing me. See any favorites that you recommend I start soon?
My daughters loved this as a read aloud. A perfect classic adventure for all ages! #caughtwithaclassic #Georgemacdonald #theprincessandthegoblin
A princess, a miner boy, a great-great-great-great grandmother and some goblins hobnob in the book that influenced CS Lewis, M. L'Engle and more. • Read my full review: http://bit.ly/2a33M5j
What a charming story! This book by MacDonald tells the story of Princess Irene, Curdie, and their struggles against the goblins. Lots of fun, with several good lessons or themes tucked within. A perfect read for a young child or a children's lit focused #24in48 #readathon - I can't wait to read more of MacDonald's stories.
Here is Simon, keeping my lap warm while I read for the #24in48 #readathon - when he is not bouncing around in kitten fashion. He and his sister are my reading buddies, as I explore the world created by George MacDonald.
Oh, this book is delightful! How have I never read it before?? Loving it.
The Princess and the Goblin is up next. Reading with some friends! :-)
Just have to decide which one to read....
