4✨ This was a very enjoyable retelling. Mulan goes to save a friend who shouldn‘t be dying yet in the underworld. She travels through many challenges and risks everything to save them. The exploration of Chinese mythology was absolutely fabulous! The world building for the levels of the Underworld was gorgeous. W get such insight into Mulan‘s character & relationship with Shang. I‘ve got 2 qualms which are nitpicky and spoilers so👇🏻 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑

This is such a fun read. It was a little slow in the beginning, but then it started to pick up the pace. It got more exciting the further along I got in it. It‘s always enjoyable to read a Twisted Tales story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What would happen if Mulan had to travel through the underworld? This book was pretty good! I liked the emotional reveal of Mulan‘s true identity, and I loved all the callbacks to the original film. I really wanted to check out this twisted tale series - they take a Disney movie and add a “what if?” twist. In this version of Mulan, Shang gets mortally wounded and Mulan has to travel to the underworld to bring him back. Of course this reminded me of Odysseus so I had to read it. I appreciated how this book told a different story, but the style stayed true enough to the original. The Chinese mythology was also a big plus for me!

Like the other books I‘ve read in the Twisted Tales series that I‘ve read so far, I enjoyed this re-telling. I appreciated Mulan‘s character development and the depth that Elizabeth Lim gave to Shang and Mulan‘s love story. But there were parts that I thought lagged a little bit. Overall, I give this book a 4.5 ⭐️ rating.

I‘ve enjoyed all the installments of the Twisted Tales series that I‘ve read, and this one was no different. A great take on Mulan‘s story! Now I want to watch the movie again 😃

I've been using the Twisted Tale series to help pass the time while doing housework and cooking lately. They make for quick, entertaining audiobooks.

Unlike the Aladdin retelling, I felt this one was a lot stronger. Mulan must travel to the Underworld to save her friend. All of the Chinese mythology in the story was fascinating to me and now I want to research more stories about it. 💚

I enjoyed this twisted tale of Mulan. Mulan travels to the underworld to stop Shang from dying. The adventure Mulan, Shang, and Shang's guardian took was wrapped in chinese mythology and I appreciated it a lot!
The beginning was slow to start, but once Mulan got to the underworld, it picked up; and it was hard for me to stop reading. I thought the book tired the movie in well. I was upset Mushu wasn't along for the ride but by the end; it was ok.

I'm really enjoying this!

After taking a day off from reading yesterday due to a headache & not feeling the best, I‘ve finished my 2nd book of #24b4Monday & #SummersEndReadathon. About 1/2 through my 3rd book too, so making decent time due to the extra day. Loved this book. One of my faves of “Twisted Tales”. Really enjoyed the tie in of Chinese Underworld Mythology & hoe of kept with the thematic spirit of Mulan.
