James and the Giant Peach (Turtleback School & Library)
James and the Giant Peach (Turtleback School & Library) | Roald Dahl
195 posts | 502 read | 4 reading | 44 to read
When James accidentally drops some magic crystals by the old peach tree, the peach at the very top of the tree starts growing. Before long it's as big as a house, and James discovers a secret entranceway into the mammoth fruit. When he crawls inside, James meets a bunch of friendly oversized insects. With a snip of the stem, the peach starts rolling, and the adventure begins! Fans of this popular story will delight in the new humorous illustrations by Quentin Blake.

My penultimate AI themed #tuesdaytunes. I asked for Minnie Riperton (Worst likeness of all AI pics I‘ve had generated) reading The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes; Carlos Santana reading Call of Cthulhu. I specifically asked for Genesis era Peter Gabriel reading Jane Eyre. Chick Corea reading James and the Giant Peach. Obviously Kate Bush would read Wuthering Heights and Elvis Costello doesn‘t want to go to Chelsea so reads Fever Pitch instead.

#TemptingTitles Day 2: #WithAFruit, a giant peach, in fact! From Iphigene‘s review: What I loved about this book was its believability. Not a moment did I question the existence of the giant peach and the giant insects. This particular Dahl story made you believe in its plausibility. I wouldn‘t even call it a suspension of judgment… that‘s when you know a book was magical, when it made you believe.” https://wp.me/pDlzr-2dh

A light-hearted way to finish up Spring Break. Dahl has a real problem ending books… but the vivid picture he paints of friendship, teamwork and acknowledging one another‘s worth could benefit adults today as well as children.

After all these years I finally read this Roald Dahl. Although it isn't one of my favorites, it still has all the wonderful things I love about his stories.

The part I absolutely loved in this one is the ending and the song that tells everyone about how insects are helpful. It's a great way to teach young readers to be kind to bugs. 🐛🐞

Ruthiella I loved this book as a child, but I‘ve never read it since. 2y

This book is about a giant peach that goes on a wild journey after falling off of his tree branch. The branch he was in became too heavy with all of the things and bugs (characters) he was having interactions with. He seems to have to pent up anger towards some of them because they may be the reason that he fell. He also almost gets eaten by a shark. This is a great entertaining story to read to kids about his journey!

I love this book! The book is about a boy named James who lives with his two cruel aunts befriends bugs who have made a home inside of a giant peach. They go on a journey to New York! The story ends with the peach being almost completely eaten by local children who were wanting to see it in person.

Not bad but a lot of nonsense without a real lesson. A boy is abused by his miserable aunts and gets taken away on a magic peach full of insects. They never really learn to like each other but they fly through the clouds to New York. 🤷‍♀️ Fun fact: Illustrator Lane Smith also did The Stinky Cheese Man, which is a favorite of mine. 💜

Had to go to a childhood favorite for a #peach 🍑 quote.

“Everybody was feeling happy now. The sun was shining brightly out of a soft blue sky and the day was calm. The giant peach, with the sunlight glinting on its side, was like a massive golden ball sailing upon a silver sea.”

It's about James, a poor kid who's parents got eaten by a hippo that escaped from a zoo. James was sent to live with his evil aunts who made him do all their stuff. A mysterious man gave James weird worms to eat and they would bring him luck. James took it and set off. He tripped and all the worms went on a tree. That's where the story starts
why did i choose it? I chose this book because someone suggested it. I'm glad that they did.

Finished this ages ago but didn't get a chance to review it.It's such a fun read,I really laughed out loud with the arguements between the Centipede and the Earthworm.I love this book, even though probably the story as such is not as great as other of Dahl's books, but the dialogues are great and it's one of the funniest ones.

Also couldn't stop hearing Waikiki's voice reading it. If anyone is interested check the videos in YT for a very fun read.

I watched this movie as a kid, but I never read the book. I read it now because it was on a list of 100 best fantasy books I‘m working my way through.

His parents were eaten by a rhino... I wonder how he came up with that crazy/random idea. And his aunts were so incredibly cruel to James for no reason.

Whimsical & fun. A great read with a lot of imagination. Very light-hearted. I will admit that the beginning is a little overly dark & the aunts are just plain awful, but once things get moving away from James's awful home life circumstances it just felt magical & was thoroughly enjoyable. This was a nice, easy read great for the younger aged set & I loved the different personalities present in the bugs. A fun cast of diverse attitudes & ideas.

Back to watching animated movies in chronological order on Disney+. Today it was this fever dream of a musical fantasy film, part live action and part stop motion animation, it‘s a pretty weird film! But it‘s a Roald Dahl/
Tim Burton combo so...

My favourite part was the truely insane sequence when they make peach beer.

I remember this movie coming out in 1997 but I don‘t remember having seen it (or having read it tbh)

Shmemilina You should read it!!! It‘s even more delightfully bizarre in the book version, as is typical of Roald Dahl. 4y

This classic F, “James and the Giant Peach” by Roald Dahl, is a great addition to any classroom. It tells the story of a boy named James who sprinkles some seeds in his yard one day and then the peach grows to the size of a house with some special friends living in it. Would be great as a RA for the whole class or to be used as a LC for a group of students.
