English Description Jude and her brother, Noah, are incredibly close twins. At thirteen, isolated Noah draws constantly and is falling in love with the charismatic boy next door, while daredevil Jude surfs and cliff-dives and wears red-red lipstick and does the talking for both of them. But three years later, Jude and Noah are barely speaking."

This is such a fun prompt; YA literature used to be my jam! Here are three coming-of-age novels I love and highly recommend (they also happen to be great LGBTQ+ books):
1. I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
2. The Gentlemen's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee
3. When the Moon Was Ours by Anna-Marie McLemore #TLT #ThreeListThursday #LGBTQ @dabbe

slategreyskies I really liked I‘ll Give You the Sun. ☀️ 10mo

This novel is so far about twins, Jude and Noah, who are polar opposites. Although they were very different, they were still very close. Jude was the popular, pretty, social one who everyone loved, while Noah was the quiet one with few to no friends, and spent all of his time drawing. But after their mother tragicly dies and they start highschool, things change. They end up having extremly different lives and personalities then before...

Read at the beginning of this month. This book was like a tv soap opera. A lot of drama with many family secrets, everyone deceived someone😳and everything was connected. I liked Guillermo character, a sculpture so intense in his emotions. I think the ending was a little too convenient, cheesy. Noah was lucky at the end (no spoiler🤷🏽‍♀️) but Noah‘s anguish was so sad. That scene with his dad😢Oscar just made me laugh☺️ 3.5/3.8⭐️

Although I don‘t recall much about this book, I know that thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It has such complex stories split between the twins, and the journey of finding each other again is really beautiful. I recommend looking into this one❤️

This book follows the lives of two twins, Noah and Jude, as they fall in love and go through the ups and downs of life and grow apart. An interesting thing about this story is that it‘s told from alternative point of views, at different stages of their lives.

I finished this book, I have to say that it‘s a good book. But, it‘s just not for me. This is quite a different genre than what I like, and so I didn‘t enjoy it as much. I loved the visuals that were given, and the writing was also very nice, although, this book didn‘t impact me so much. I‘m giving this, ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5.

Again, this doesn‘t mean that the book is bad, it‘s just a personal rating. Your rating might be different, and that‘s okay. :)

reedster28 I just started this book yesterday and it's different and very informative and interesting 2y

What a beautifully written book!
A story told from two perspectives..Jude and her twin brother Noah..in a unique and fantastical way. The way Noah sees the world in brilliant bursts of art kills me. He captures what he is feeling by making them into drawings in his mind (or on paper)- I love Noah. Actually I love all these characters! The book is very good. The storyline is interesting and keeps you guessing as you try to fill in what happened.

Is it just me or are there a ton of books about twins lately? I read 2 this month!

The things that kept me reading this YA were 2:
First, the absolutely immersive passion that several characters have for their various art forms. I know that feeling, and it‘s something every artist hopes and works for.
Second, the M/M first love storyline- Noah and Brian forever! They had my blood running hot, for sure 🥰.

Hard to get into, heavy content.

#ReadYourSign book twelve: I‘ll Give You the Sun, which features my ruling planet in the title. Whoa. This was all kinds of intense, but ended so beautifully and with so much hope. It also reminded me of Holes, with how seamlessly all the different-time-period pieces fell into place by the end.

Okay, my friends love this book but I wasn‘t equally smitten. I did like the unique figurative language, but it was overdone at times. The tone in this is overwrought at times, as well. Almost every character is steeped in a thick miasma of guilt, shame, despair, and equally cheerful emotions. There‘s plenty of insta-love to go around, and The End! It‘s a much-loved book, though, so don‘t take my word for it!

Y‘all. I can‘t believe I‘m bailing on this book but...I am. I LOVED the prose — it was lovely, moving, & full of great characterization. I just couldn‘t do the switching POVs. Yes, I was warned it was that kind of book, but even so, switching characters, not to mention the time jump back & forth every time we switched characters, was too much for me. I look forward to trying other things by this author though!

Young Adult Fiction
2019 10 26
2019 11 09
The synopsis had me wanting to read the book, looking forward to the novel structure.
NoahandJude, artists and twins who were very close when they were younger. However, after some tragic events, they drifted away until things started to make sense at the end. Their younger years were told by Noah while Jude told the rest.

1ReVeluvY What kept them away for a while? Noah is in love with the boy next door and misunderstands that his mother would disapprove of them. On the other hand, Jude is going through girl adolescence and prefers to be out with her new friends. After their mom's death and before anyone can apologize to her, everyone is basically (trapped) keeping their thoughts to themselves. (edited) 5y
1ReVeluvY Noah: He is trying to get into high school art school while is in love with Brian. Noah gets into a fight, which doesn't happen often, with his mother because she catches his relationship while Noah catches her in another relationship with another man. Brian leaves because he doesn‘t want to get kicked out of his baseball team for being gay and his trauma. 5y
1ReVeluvY Noah doesn't get the chance to say sorry to his mom because of the accident. Noah lies to everyone saying she was on her way to ask his dad to become a family again instead of going to his dad to ask for a divorce. He also doesn't get into CSA, the art school he planned to go to. As a result from the occasions, he carries grief as he and everyone becomes confused for a few years.
5y
See All 6 Comments
1ReVeluvY Jude: She also has secrets and is very superstitious until the end where everything made sense. She thinks because she threw out Noah‘s application for the CSA, her mom (mom‘s ghost) breaks all her sculptures. Therefore, she goes to a mentor, Guillermo Garcia, to learn how to make sculptures out of stone so that her mom doesn‘t break them. However, only Noah knows Guillermo is the guy in their mom‘s secret relationship. 5y
1ReVeluvY When Jude does find out from Noah, she realizes through meeting Guillermo, her mom explains how honest her love was for him. In addition, Jude also confessed about Noah‘s application but he didn‘t feel bad at all because his art was always the best. She brought Noah and Brian back together too. There‘s also Oscar (like a son to Guillermo, and also spent valuable time with NoahandJude‘s mom) who is another story for Jude.
5y
1ReVeluvY When the twins opened up again after all misunderstandings and confessions, they were able to remake the world.

The story is very well-written, especially since a lot of the sentences have great meaning readers can also learn from. I was overwhelmed how I understood and connected with the characters and story.

So..... I love this book, first when I read the point of view of noah I don't like her twin sister jude, but when I read the point of view of jude, I regret hating her. I like the plot of the story, I really felt sad about the conflict between the twins, the parents and child love, and their first loves
