Maybe a little too sprawling for its own good, but I loved this. Remarkably written and confidently told. No other zombie book is quite like this one.

Not surprisingly, The Living Dead reads like it was written by someone with a filmmaker‘s eye. What is surprising is that it seems Romero wrote very little of it. Kraus was brought in after Romero‘s passing to try and make something of the notes, sketches, and unpolished chapters Romero had been working on intermittently for over 30 years.
Kraus nails it. The novel feels wholly Romero, from all the director‘s refinement to his blemishes.
I gave away my BookOutlet hardcover over a year ago when I ordered a special edition. Fourteen months later my signed/numbered special edition has arrived! I love it! Worth the wait! The longest I‘ve waited for a book. 😁♥️
What a wild ride being a full time grad student, solo parenting (husband has to work out of Boston a few times a month), and job hunting has been. Trying to squeeze in a couple pages on my breaks and in between racing cars.
Me: Just trying to read
My needy ass pug and toddler enjoying his 20 minutes of screen time:
How about no?
I told my husband today “I deserve books”. I‘m exhausted. The last four years of my life have been some of the hardest and most tumultuous in my existence. All I want to do is read. And learn. And read. I‘m happy today and I deserve that.
I finished this one in the last weekend of September. I loved it. This is an epic novel. There are, of course, zombies, but there is so much more here. I loved many of the characters and the social commentary. It‘s been a week and I‘m still thinking about it. I may have told my husband several times that we deserve a zombie apocalypse as we watched the news.
Reggie, thank you so much for sending me this chunkster! Also, you‘re review is ⬇️
#LittensDressedInBlood Today‘s prompt is Dead Man‘s Party and my mind went straight to zombies.
Although, now I‘m wondering why I didn‘t think of vampires. Or ghosts. Or a party where someone dies. Or Christmas or Easter books. Hmmm.
Reggie, you are the best! Thank you so much for the books! I actually opened it last week, which is why the bag of chocolate is empty, but I‘m shit about posting in a timely manner. Your gift brought a lot of cheer to me during a rough week. 😊 Also, I love the card. Thank you so much again!
I talked to Santa, so check your stocking (email) tomorrow. 🎄🎅🏻
Merry Christmas, my friend!
I loved this book. George Romero died in 2017. Shortly after Daniel Kraus gets a call from his estate asking if he would be willing to finish this novel George was working on. The result is a seamlessly written, epic, zombie novel. There is A LOT of social commentary in here and it‘s all relevant. I always say it but zombie books are never about the zombies. This one‘s about us and how out of touch we‘ve become as people, with ourselves, each 👇🏼
Greer, a young Black woman, has just escaped the zombies from her trailer park with a Syrian refugee, Fadi. They make it to town to see if they can save her brother where they come upon a group of 300 angry white people about to take on a group of 40 Syrian refugees because the violence being reported around the nation is surely because of people not like them. I keep reading horror thinking as long as we haven‘t gotten there yet we‘re ok, and👇🏼
A White House news briefing that was supposed to be on the hush hush but is secretly being broadcast.
This was a long winded book! I felt like it could have been shorter and still packed a punch.
This book isn‘t just about Zombies. It‘s about the monsters that people can become. In the Walking Dead, Rick says,‘Kill the dead. Fear the living.‘ This holds true even in this book.
I have a good number of physical and digital arcs I need to read, so I created #ARCOFAUGUST over on bookstagram to focus solely on that for this entire month.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you have arcs you need to read this month and want to liven up your reading experience and have a group to help hold you accountable, DM me on bookstagram or just comment below and I'll add you to our IG group.
Plugging away on this chunky monster while it rains. Theo refuses to emerge from under a blankey this morning.
This was such an adventure! While I expected the horror and gore I definitely wasn‘t expecting the focus to shift towards the monsters humans can be. The characters were very well developed and I came to really care about what happened to them. The ending had more loose ends then I would have preferred but still a great epic work of horror. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Theo and I cuddling. Enjoying the Living Dead. For some reason I feel like zombies are just what I need right now! 🧟♀️ Trying to get my remaining hours goal for #JubliantJuly in.
It‘s raining and we can‘t go outside. So it‘s a pj and reading day! #JubliantJuly
Daddy is in Costco and since it‘s a cooler day, Matty and I came along for the car ride. Feeling super indecisive with what I want to focus on with my reading so I‘m starting a Zombie book! Why not during a pandemic? Sounds like a good plan. 🤦♀️🤓 book number 3 going for #JubliantJuly 😀
Ooooo... surprise book mail!!! I am not entirely sure how I got this but I‘m excited nonetheless! I enjoy zombies occasionally!
A very detailed and epic novel that tells the story of the zombie outbreak from the very first day and all the way through to 15 years later. And when I say epic... I mean epic. The book's cast of characters are many, each having their own extensive story, location, background, and experiences. Overall I really enjoyed this 656 page book and I give it a solid 4 stars but I felt like it could have been shorter and still have been just as effective.
I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley. And so far I am enjoying it. It's a pretty long read.
Zombies!!! I‘m really excited for this door stopper! I can‘t get enough of zombies and I‘m especially excited to see how they handle the first signs and actions once the dead start rising as well as seeing whether they show any sort of resolution. Yay!!
**Publishes June 9, 2020**
Although this book doesn't come out for awhile, The Living Dead was something George Romero had been working on for quite awhile. He died before he could complete it, but Kraus stepped in and finished it. Like Romero's movies, there's a ton of gore. But the book follows a few survivors (just a few, DON'T GET ATTACHED) in the decades after the first zombie attack, as humans are forced to reexamine their place on earth.
This is a picture from yesterday, but I'm outside reading again, water bottle instead of beer bottle, determined to finish this chunkster before heading back to work tomorrow!
Reading the tagged book and watching #ASMR Hogwarts letters and Fireplace, with a little owls and rain too. Lovely!
Not getting tons of reading done so far. The Hubs and I are finally off this weekend so we watched horror movies and did a wine/pet food run (and scored some paper towels, woot!). Settling in with this promising titled chapter. #QuarantineRead #stayhome24in48
Pages decides to climb up on my book to get my attention. #dogsoflitsy
Working a full time job and part time at the bookstore does not result in a lot of days off lately, but today is a day off! Curling up with zombies (Romero wrote 2/3rds of this before he passed, finished by Kraus and out in June) and coffee.
