48 posts | 66 read | 29 to read
A brilliant and touching romantic comedy from the USA Today bestselling author of The Friend Zone and The Happy Ever After Playlist. Vanessa lives life on her own terms -- one day at a time, every day to its fullest. She isn't willing to waste a moment or miss out on an experience when she has no idea whether she shares the same fatal genetic condition as her mother. Besides, she has way too much to do, traveling the globe and showing her millions of YouTube followers the joy in seizing every moment. But after her half-sister suddenly leaves Vanessa in custody of her infant daughter, she is housebound, on mommy duty for the foreseeable future, and feeling totally out of her element. The last person she expects to show up offering help is the unbelievably hot lawyer who lives next door, Adrian Copeland. After all, she barely knows him. But as they get closer, Vanessa realizes that her carefree ways and his need for a structured plan could never be compatible for the long term. Then again, she should know better than anyone that life's too short to fear taking the biggest risk of all. . .

I cried at the last two books I have read, so why did I start “Life‘s Too Short” by Abby Jimenez? Sure, I love Abby‘s books, but this one is gonna kill me - unless there‘s a great twist!! Is there? Don‘t tell me…gotta go finish. #SERIESLOVE24 @TheSpineView

TheSpineView ❤️ her books! 2w
Allylu I finished it and I survived with minimal tears. I ❤️Abby Jimenez! I have the audiobook for her new book coming as my BOTM for April. My daughter bought me a subscription for my birthday. 2w

#ReadAway2024 #SeriesLove2024

This book I just finished this week fits today‘s #ItTakesAllKinds prompt #WithLawyer as one of the MCs., Adrian, is a lawyer. It also includes an elderly chihuahua, a baby & the other MC, Vanessa, an influencer/vlog star. With this book, I‘ve now finished both Abby Jimenez‘s series & I‘m a bit sad because these are such sweet, heartfelt rom-com books but with some depth & poignancy. She makes me both chuckle & cry.💛

CatLass007 So you just googled “baby with elderly chihuahua?” Because that‘s the perfect picture. I‘ve seen Abby Jimenez‘s name as an author of rom coms. I‘ll see what they have on Libby. (edited) 1mo
DebinHawaii @CatLass007 Hah! I did in fact Google “Baby with elderly chihuahua!” 🤣🤣🤣 They have pretty long waiting lists—it took me a while to work through each 3-book series (in order because I must) but it was worth it! (edited) 1mo
CatLass007 Absolutely series should be read in order! I already have reached the 20 hold max, so I just created a tag to remind myself to put in a hold on a book when one of my holds comes in. If you like Rom-Coms, I‘d like to recommend Hello, Stranger by Katherine Center. I listened to the audiobook last year and I loved it. And I‘m pretty picky about Rom-Coms. 1mo
DebinHawaii @CatLass007 I love her books & that one is near the top of my TBR. I‘ll try & move it up sooner. I don‘t always read rom-coms but I do really like the good ones. 💛 1mo
CatLass007 I tend to avoid Rom-Coms. I don‘t think most of the movies that bear that tag are very good (Pretty Woman? So not good.). And I generally feel the same way about Rom-Com books. I think part of it is that I‘ve aged out of the age range for the genre. Not completely, but… the story has to be well written and interesting. 1mo
Eggs Sounds great 👍🏼 🤗 1mo

I think I have now read all of Abby Jimenez‘s books in a 2 month period. This one wasn‘t my favorite but I did like it. An interesting premise for a romance. She has to take care of a baby and the guy helps and they fall in love.

The last 3 books I‘ve read have all been about social media and influencers and I‘m just not into it. I‘ll say more about it in another book review.

Wow, what a beautiful, down to earth love story that takes a hard topic about someone with a terminal illness and tells a grounded love story that doesn't magically fix the issues mentioned in the story but tells the story in a very realistic way. Well done. Beautiful.

This was my third Abby Jimenez book in about a week as she quickly became my must-read, favorite author of 2021. All of her books have been sweet, but I really appreciate how she is able to expand her stories past the vapidness often found in chick-lit, and give substance to her characters while they experience difficult emotions and life struggles. At the same time, these reads aren't too heavy--it's truly the perfect balance.

tracey38 I enjoyed this one as well! 2y

I don‘t often cry at books, but this one got me. I think the idea that Adrian adopted Grace even as he went searching for Vanessa hit me because my stepdad raised me from the time I was a baby until he died eight years ago. I definitely see this plot point through a biased lens.

I‘ve read all of Abby Jimenez‘s 3 published books over the past few months, and I‘m a fan. I‘m looking forward to her next one in 2022.

What a lovely book! 'Life's too short' follows Adrian and Vanessa a Youtube vlogger who is battling what may be ALS, a hereditary and deadly disease that‘s already taken her sister.
Through their meet-cute & subsequent friendship that slowly & then ferociously erupts into a romance, one second I was bawling & the next I was laughing through the tears.
Abby writes love really, really well & this book just proves how masterful she is in the genre.

wanderinglynn One of my faves! 💜💜💜 Have you read the first two of this series? (edited) 3y
damselsgotballs @wanderinglynn I am currently reading HEAP and then I'll be reading The Friend Zone. I read this one first because at that time I didn't plan to read the whole series. And now for some reason I'm unaware if, I'm reading the whole series in opposite order😂💚 3y

The women in Vanessa‘s family have all passed before the age of 30 from ALS, so she‘s decided to put everything into living every moment, and making sure her dad and siblings will be financially taken care of when she‘s gone. What she doesn‘t expect is to be suddenly fostering her half-sister‘s newborn. And she certainly doesn‘t expect the hot next door neighbor.

Funny, sad, poignant, and hopeful, I enjoyed this one.

Finished this one last night and loved it. It's one I didn't want to end because I wanted to stay with the characters. It does deal with some heavy subject matter in the sense that one of the characters has lost family members to ALS and has a 50% chance of having it herself. I admit that I did tear up a bit towards the end. This was a great book.

Visiting friends in AZ and got a good kick out of noticing that my drinkware is color coordinated to the book I'm reading. May need to buy all the colors and make this a new "thing" ?

Being in vacation mode myself, this was a fun read experiencing so many foreign and domestic locations though the eyes of Vanessa, a travel blogger raising money for ALS. ↩️

MaggieCarr This wasn't my favorite A.J. book but I did enjoy "catching up" with previous characters during the dinner scene. Authors that add these Easter Eggs for their readers are so fun. 3y

4/5

Vanessa is a travel vlogger who has unexpectedly taken custody of her newborn niece, but even that isn't as unexpected as her super hot neighbor Adrian showing up to help her out one night when the baby won't stop crying.

This does have a HEA, though the book definitely makes you doubt it at times. I do wish the ending had been longer, but it's a great romance that, like all Jimenez's novels, made me laugh and cry.

OTOH, the chemistry between the main characters was great. Vanessa is delightful. The initial complications- including accidental baby acquisition- intriguing. OTO, I had enough of a sinking feeling regarding the reason Vanessa believes she‘ll die young and how that would be handled in the HEA that I skipped to the end (which I never do) and... yeah. Spoiler in comment below #ARC

akaGingerK In order to have a happily ever after, the author walked back on the disability. It‘s the reverse of my reaction to Hibbert‘s Get A Life Chloe Brown, where the disability rep was solid, but the hero didn‘t click for me - and it‘s more disappointing honestly. Because I want to like this book! I mostly do! But all my friends deserve HEAs, not just the non-disabled ones. 3y
