This was a #NotForMe book. I wanted it to be for me - but it just wasn't :( 😞 I still want to watch the movie though. #BookToScreen
I am about 40% in (my #LibbyLoan came in, and I needed a new #AudioCommute book). So far. Its #NotForMe :( Maybe if I was a momma? I don't know. I am gonna keep listening, though - I might have time to listen while I spend time documenting tomorrow. #BookToScreen
Tulips just because they are beautiful.
I had skipped this one originally but decided to give it a go after hearing someone rave about it on a podcast. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I did find it a little repetitive in places and feel like the ending was a bit weak. This is the type of book that should slap you across the face at the end and it just didn‘t do that. A low pick for me.
The writing is so dry and sterile (?…I can‘t even find the right words) that it is sounding monotone in my head. One of the reviews calls it “funny and bizarre”. When?? I haven‘t felt a shred of humor. Don‘t even get me started on the lack of quotation marks. I also am not in the mood to be depressed, so I‘m bailing and going back to another world. I‘m giving up very early on this one. Fantasy, I‘m coming back home!
I liked the symbolism and the outright bitchyness. It really was weird and my kind of book. It would have been five stars if not for my skepticism about the likelihood of the ending.
⚠️Warning animal death does occur. I know for me personally, I'm more sensitive to that than people's deaths.
Yes, I loved NIGHTBITCH. You will, too, if you haven't already devoured it!
@DoubledayBooks
This has truly got to be the strangest and most baffling book I have ever read.
I thought this was going to be a body horror novel. It kind of was, but I'd say it was more of a magical realism story about motherhood. I think it has a strong message - for people that are not me lol.
I don‘t even think I knew they were adapting this, I have seen no ads for it, and it came out yesterday. I loved the book even though it wasn‘t my particular headspace (it‘s very centered around the way the MC‘s life closes in on her as a mother of young children with a clueless husband, which is relatable for many I am sure) it‘s not playing anywhere near me, so that‘s a bummer
This has been on my TBR forever, had no idea they adapted it to screen! I need to get on it before it comes out, I LOVE Amy Adams❤️
Apparently today is National Cake Pop Day, so I got a cake pop along with my latte and asiago cheese bagel with garden veggie cream cheese.
Enjoying the last weekend of my spring break from grad school before the final push. Starting this book with an egg and cheese bagel and some coffee. This afternoon will be spent watching women‘s basketball (go Hawkeyes!)
Today, I'm finding it very easy to relate to the MC of this book, who doesn't quite know who (or what) she turns into at night. Yesterday, I got the new covid booster and a flu shot and must have had a reaction, because at 6am my partner heard a loud noise and woke up to find me in the hallway, having apparently fallen and smashed my face through the drywall, with no idea where I was or how I got there. 😬 I'm pretty scraped up, but okay.
I'm trying to fill in the last few gaps in my #AlphabetSoup challenge for this year (I'm doing author AND title). I haven't managed to read anything by a Y author yet, and I've had this one sitting on my kindle, so... I do love really ducking weird speculative fiction, so this one should be fun.
Hurricane weather means that I can finally finish this book and…???? Maybe it‘s because I‘m not the intended audience (over educated, yes, but I am not and don‘t plan on having kids), but Nightbitch just didn‘t hit the way I know it has for other people. Also, I have two black cats and that one scene was almost enough for me to DNF. ⭐️⭐️✨
This must be what it means to be an animal, to look at another and say, I am so much that other thing that we are part of one another. Here is my skin. Here is yours.
Okay, @suvata @BeckyWithTheGoodBooks @vonnie862 :
How about one of these? I‘ll tag the other two in the comments. Let me know your thoughts!!
6 stars for this strange gem. Every creative turned stay-at-home parent should read this! ScaryMommy blog meets Kafka. Are the shiny, happy moms at story hour truly beasts? It‘s bloody original! TW: brutal death of pet. #motherhood #creative #magicalrealism #horror #readthisnow
If she was to give up paid, creative work for unpaid mothering, she wanted to “recede into the wilderness of her deepest dreams, of her corporeal yearning…” -Rachel Yoder #sodamngood #readthis
Be prepared for bodily fluids, the developing of fur and the killing of small rodents. The mother (aka Nightbitch) has a small son and a husband who works away with a better paid job, so she is now forced to stay at home. Slowly she feels she is becoming a dog and gives in to those primal urges. A visceral portrayal of motherhood, “working” vs “stay at home” and the mindlessness of early motherhood. Despite my initial misgivings, I enjoyed this 👇
This bloody book! Mom life meets Kafka! I am underlining a sentence on almost every page… #original #darklyfunny #brilliant
This is a bizarre, yet disturbingly accurate depiction of being a stay-at-home mom. It captures how entirely consuming early motherhood can be while trying to reimagine your identity as an individual apart from your child. The mother in the story is losing herself, then unexpectedly begins a strange transformation that puts her in touch with a new powerful sense of self. It is the weirdest book I‘ve read in a long time, but totally compelling.
Angry, smart, and original, but perhaps a little too long for its own good. In 2023, these feminist themes are particularly impactful.
An uncomfortable read, particularly for a childfree vegetarian cat mom 😂
But I am enjoying this trend of mad as hell women, &shameless talk about bodily fluids &primal urges. & being fed up with gender roles & bias in society.
Yoder‘s writing is visceral & aggressive & unique. 🐺
#20in4
At about 30% - Wasn‘t sure about it initially, it will probably really resonate with Mothers of young children who can admit that kids (& pets & husbands) are annoying 😂 (no judgement if you are well balanced &don‘t think that) it is not my particular headspace but I‘m enjoying this re-emerging of women being mad af in popular literature.
Still not sure if she‘s turning into an animal or if this is the general body horror of being a woman 💅

Current read and current WIP #litsycrafters
This book is so so so weird. It‘s hilarious and sad and full of rage and love, all in a totally strange and unique box. I think every single human being should read this book. That being said, I‘ll never read it again.
⭐️: 4/5
“How evil to praise a woman for giving up each and every dream.”
#selfguidedwomenandgenderstudiescourse
I get it. I felt it. And it was very clever. I think every mom will feel it. But I think it was too long. Maybe.

Staring out the window because I forgot my book.
When will I learn?!
This was weird af but I absolutely loved it!! I couldn‘t stop listening to it and somehow a lot of this was relatable too

Bailed on the last book. So now #currentlyreading this.
And a little hesitant to put it out where my kids can see the cover and read the title… 😬😬
Book 184📚 4⭐️
Nightbitch is wild! I loved it and all it‘s meta-ness! (If that‘s the right term..😂)
I could have done with a bit more chapter breakdown but still a powerhouse of a book!
Definitely on the unforgettable list!
🐺🥩🩸🐰🖤
The synchronicity of Nightbitch is unmatched😂👌🏻
Most recent TBR stack from the library - all my holds are starting to come in together😂
This is where I‘ll be for the next 3 days📚
Madeline, thank you so much for this spooktacular swap package! I love everything that you picked out for me! You nailed a relaxing night in! 🌙 👻🎃🦇

Such a powerful book for mothers and an interesting take on motherhood! We all have a little nightbitch right?
I think if this was a novella I would have lapped it up but the longer this book went on, the less engaged I became until I ultimately lost my taste for this one. A promising start and accurate description of early motherhood, gender roles/expectations, parenting and personal fulfillment. But than it became redundant and over the top and all together unnecessary. Great audio narration though! I still think the cover & title are fab 🥰
I‘m STILL loving this one @MicheleinPhilly but you have me anticipating….
My friend is spending the day visiting family in Jerusalem so I‘m spending the day chillin 😎
