A Prayer for the Crown-Shy
A Prayer for the Crown-Shy | Becky Chambers
118 posts | 114 read | 2 reading | 43 to read
Tender and healing... Im prescribing a preorder to anyone who has ever felt lost. Stunning, kind, necessary. Sarah Gailey on book 1: A Psalm for the Wild-Built After touring the rural areas of Panga, Sibling Dex (a Tea Monk of some renown) and Mosscap (a robot sent on a quest to determine what humanity really needs) turn their attention to the villages and cities of the little moon they call home. They hope to find the answers they seek, while making new friends, learning new concepts, and experiencing the entropic nature of the universe. Becky Chambers's new series continues to ask: in a world where people have what they want, does having more even matter? At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

My runner-up for my Book of the Month October. I closed this book with a heavy sigh. But it was one filled with love and beauty. Just as this book is. Loved it even a bit more than the first book. Would totally buy a third volume, but it's a perfect conclusion to the series. I so hope this will be the future we're headed towards.

LiteraryinPA I agree! This book was really special. 2w

I loved A Psalm for the Wild-Built but needed a push to read the 2nd book in the Monk and Robot Books so I jumped in with #queerbc ‘s September Author Pick: Becky Chambers & was equally charmed with A Prayer for the Crown-Shy. I love how these simple tender stories make me think & warm my heart. I love Mosscap & Sibling Dex & if this duology expands, I am here for it. 🍵🤖🌲💚

My Saturday vibe is running errands for next week‘s work retreat & spending some time at the coffeeshop with breakfast & starting the tagged book for #QueerBC September‘s author pick.

I also need to spend time catching up on reading #5JoysFriday posts, journaling & starting to plan my October reading for #HauntedShelf #Spookoween #Roll100 #CastTheDie other events.

I got reprimanded by @Clare-Dragonfly for not drinking tea while reading this book, so here is a proper set-up 😜

I adored this book and found myself chuckling often at the banter and smiling at the profound conversations. Just an absolute delight. I will hope for a return to this world but would be satisfied if this is the ending.

I wish there were 20 more books in this series. It‘s just pure peace.

The second book in the Monk and Robot series follows Mosscap‘s part of the adventure. Dex and Mosscap leave the wilderness and journey into the villages and Mosscap learns about humans and asks them its question.

Go read these books, you won‘t be sorry

The follow up to A Pslam for the Wild Built, our intro to tea monk Dex and robot Mosscap. These two have a wholesome friendship, though from different worlds, and literally made up of different parts. A parable for getting along with others in our divided world. Add in some sweet moments, a robot‘s appreciation of nature, a hunky mechanic, and a traveling tea cart and you have an escape from our world with lovable characters. #auldlangspine

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I found this book to be just as enchanting as the first in this series. The philosophy was a bit more straightforward in this one, or maybe I just knew more of what I was looking for, so in that way I liked the first book better.
But this is duology is one I'm glad I've read, & one I will definitely recommend.
Who knew a tea monk & a robot could teach you so much?
And that the teachings really would boil down to - you're doing just fine.

Another beautiful journey of the mind, exploring those ideas that are felt more often than thought.

quote
MarshmallowAdventures

“It was always a strange thing, coming home. Coming home meant that you had, at one point, left it and, in doing so, irreversiblely changed. How odd, then, to be able to return to a place that would always be anchored in your notion of the past. How could this place still be there, if the you that once lived there no longer existed?”

Another thoughtful, philosophical book about what it means to be human & how we engage with each other & the environment. At the core of this story, & the reason Mosscap, a robot, ventured out of the mountains after centuries of zero contact between humans & robots, is a single question, “What do humans need?” The answer, needless to say, is far from simple & as they travel together Dex & Mosscap will soon wonder if it‘s even the right question.

I was so excited when my library hold for this came in 3 weeks early that I sat down and read it immediately. The first book had the magic of discovering something completely unexpected, but I think revisiting this world and these characters was even more enjoyable. Maybe because I read this one and listened to the first, 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

IndoorDame or maybe just because the continued character development was so perfect. Either way I‘ve ordered hard copies of both and plan to read them again. #JoyousJanuary #Pantone2023 #IcedMango #AuldLangSpine @Clwojick @monalyisha @SueK @Andrew65 2y

I love this series so much. I really hope that there will be more. The characters are so cute and there is such great exploration into the world and human nature. I love the gentle inclusivity and how well current cultural topics are woven into the plot for evaluation. Such a great content of moral lessons and such an inspirational story. Beautiful writing and just the absolute best construction. Incredibly cozy and heartwarming.

(2022) I haven't always been a fan of Becky Chambers's low-conflict, low-plot stories, but for some reason the Monk and Robot books hit a sweet spot for me. I find their friendship charming and just want to hit the road with them. This second volume reinforced that feeling, and I'm hoping for more adventures.

Sibling Dex and Mosscap are back! Can people have stress and existential crises in a world that satisfies their needs without the crippling weight of capitalism and overindulgence? Yes! Mosscap's question of what do you need is simple yet deep, and invites the reader to ask themselves.

If you've watched My Neighbor Totoro and thought it needed to be about grown ups thinking about their lives, well, this may be the book series for you.

I sniffled and cried my way through these two books. Understanding that you don‘t need all the answers or a complete and exacting plan in order to be living a good life can be one of the most difficult and confusing things to understand. But it was handled so well. And yet again, hugs all around. Excellent books!
