Sometimes you just want a fun and over the top, unbelievable caper of a book and this is definitely that. Meddy is single, having left a long term college relationship without ever telling her family about her boyfriend. Her mother sets her up with a handsy guy, which kicks off all the crazy antics of the story. Would be a fun film. There were a few great one-liners in the first part but that quickly gave way to totally unbelievable relationships and situations. All of the characters felt like caricatures and stereotypes. And by the end, i just couldn‘t care.

I am surprised by the many rave reviews of this book. I think the first thing I disliked about this book was that the aunties didn't have names. Which shouldn't surprise me that the character development was limited and very superficial. It had some “Weekend at Bernie's“ vibes and I had to remind myself that this was supposed to be more of a rom-com. The plot didn't really develop and became very repetitive.

A surprisingly funny book which is so entertaining! I‘ve expected it to be a murder mystery but thankfully it turns out to be better! So entertaining that I‘m liking this author more than Sophie Kinsella now! If you are looking for something light and easy, should give this a try 😘 My rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I can‘t wait to start on her other novels once I‘ve finished my TBR! #bookspin #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks

I know this is supposed to be funny, but I find mom catfishing guys and sending daughter on blind dates creepy. And WTF? Daughter agrees to go on date, (with uncharged phone)then doesn't leave when the guy is a jerk, but rather gets tipsy and let's him drive her home? I can't even with this girl and her absolute lack of common sense.

I liked the characters in this book Medelin Chan and her Aunties are fun and quirky . I really enjoyed a glimpse into the lives of this Family. But the mystery was a bit of a dud - not impressed with the wrap up. But I will look forward to reading the next book in the series. So low pick. 💚🐉

Book club pick. This one is a 3/5 for me. While I did find the aunties funny, I thought the story was so so. But it did give me a chuckle, so I will give it a pick for that reason.

I have recently fallen in love with cozy mysteries and I really thought this one would feel the same and it did not. It‘s very possible it‘s because I read it when I had Covid but I couldn‘t keep the aunts straight and the story was so convoluted that it took me out of the book completely. The ending was fun though so I ended up giving it a 3 stars and decided not to continue on with the sequel.

writerlibrarian It's very « Week-end at Bernie » -esque. I felt it was more a rom-com with a crime twist for me than a cozy. I laughed quite a few times reading it. 5mo
AshleyKorinE @writerlibrarian I sadly did not, I don‘t know if it was because she tried to make it funny when they are toting around a dead guy and I had covid and didn‘t find it funny or if it just was not for me. 5mo

I loved this book! Fun mix of comedy, family drama and murder. I laughed out loud several times, and I enjoyed learning about Indo-Chinese culture. I read the Netflix bought the rights to this, so I hope they make something good out of it! I thought the whole time this would be a fun movie.

This book had a good mix of everything, murder, romance and comedy. It‘s hard to pick a favorite scene but the murder scene was my epic.
The aunties had me laughing crazy. Being a south Asian myself, I found the scenario very relatable. 😂😂
What a genius plot!

Book rating: 4/5

Such a funny story, although you have to suspend your disbelief about the dead body plot. Enjoyed learning more about Indo-Chinese culture, the theme of family, and the romance. A great vacation read-started this on the plane to L.A.

⭐️or maybe no stars? This might be an unpopular opinion, but this book was TERRIBLE. Poorly written (all telling, no showing), asinine plot with a million holes, the characters weren‘t likable or compelling and made truly bizarre decisions. I think the reader was supposed to root for the MC, but she and her family were so callous and kept doing terrible things to cover up for terrible things that I wanted her to go down.

17/22 This book was silly but fun. It took me a little while to get into it but I definitely wanted to know how it resolved. As a book riot listener it did suffer slightly from being over hyped for me. But in a challenging month easy listens like this were exactly what I needed. 3⭐️ #roadtripUSA2022 #California #booked2022 #aboutsisters

I really wanted to like this one but after 25% in, my anxiety couldn't take it anymore. All the boundary crossing by the aunties and the self sabotaging by Meddy herself was just too much. Add in trying to hide a dead body - big nope for me.

This was a fun romp. After accidentally killing her blind date, Meddy and her aunts try to hide the body until they can bury it, but it ends up getting shipped to the wedding they‘re catering. Meddy can‘t imagine what could be worse, until her ex shows up. Meddy has a wild weekend she won‘t soon forget.

A wedding photographer finds herself in over her head after her aunties try to help her cover up an accidental murder. I‘m not against books with whimsical premises, but books where one character can‘t seem to make a single logical decision are too much for me. Less choosy readers will probably say “Where‘s the fun in that?”, and the aunties are perfect…but the twists and fairy tale romance had me rolling my eyes. This one wasn‘t for me.

Catch up post for week 1 of #teamslaughter #scarathlon since I was camping over the weekend. Gotta enjoy fall weather while I can!
I thought this would fit our team prompt as a cozy, similar to Arsenic and Adobo, but it was a romance with a murder-romp subplot. My bad! 😅 I saw “guy dies on blind date” and assumed there would be a whodunnit involved, when there really wasn‘t. I enjoyed the Chinese-Malay aunties, tho. Points tallied for wk 1!
