A recently restored luxury hotel becomes the nexus for the stories of a ghost, a general manager dealing w/ a cheating ex, a rich boy dealing w/ a secret, & more.

Very much a beach read! A pretty slow, frothy, tangle of storylines all connected by the hotel w/ too much POV switching. I ended up flipping my opinions on a lot of characters, loved all the descriptions of food, & kept texting my mom about all the architectural restoration. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

My favorite character is the ghost, Grace! The book starts out really slow, just beginning to pick up 1/4 way in. Lots of characters to love and to hate. The hotel has been restored to a luxury hotel and it aims for the coveted 5key award. Staff is trained to be warm and caring. It‘s fun to watch their growth.

Elin Hildebrand has definitely become one of my favourite ‘holiday reads‘ authors. Light, easy to read. Full of good characters, interesting plot lines, romance, and sun filled days. She‘s obviously a ‘foodie‘ too as all the meals and restaurants she mentions sound great! Apparently they are based on real life restaurants in Nantucket.

This was my first Elin Hilderbrand, and it was about what I expected. The point of view was odd and inconsistent (seemingly 3rd person then suddenly slipping into 1st person "we" and "us," as if from the point of view of the collective local residents ?‍♀️) However, I found the descriptions of the setting to be the highlight of the book. It definitely makes me want to head to Nantucket for a summer getaway!

TheBookgeekFrau I've read almost all her books and this one was not a favorite. The weird point of view is that over time the island itself developed into a character; so yes, that was Nantucket speaking 🏖️ 6mo

I loved this one! It was the perfect mix of mystery, romance, and drama with a beautiful setting and likeable characters. It made me want to plan a vacation to Nantucket!! Happily enough, there is a whole fun travel guide of things to do on the island at the back of the book. This is the perfect beach read, especially if you want more than just romance in the plot!

Surprisingly, this is only the 3rd book by Elin Hilderbrand that I've read. I really do enjoy her books! Her style of writing is easy to get lost in. There are a variety of characters in this one. Like, a lot of characters. 😬 Lots going on! They all intertwine at the hotel, where most of them work at. I liked the character of Grace, the ghost. That was a unique twist.⭐⭐⭐⭐

MissyD This is on my TBR. I read The Beach Club And didn‘t care for it. 🤷🏼‍♀️. Could have been my mood at the time. 1y
ItsAnotherJen @MissyD I haven't read that one. I've only read 28 Summers and Barefoot before this one. She has written a lot of books! 1y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When looking for a summery beach read, why not turn to the Queen herself? Following the style of many of Elin Hilderbrand‘s books, I liked how we observed multiple characters‘ points of view surrounding the hotel, even including a ghost! It wasn‘t anything groundbreaking, but it was engaging and satisfied a bit of my wanderlust! 🎧

Loved this quintessential Hilderbrand! Juicy, compelling, and filled with memorable characters that keep you guessing. The hotel insider bits were fun and the food and restaurant descriptions were mouth watering. It makes you feel like you are on vacation, even if you can‘t be. All in all, I want to plan a trip to Nantucket ASAP! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

Is it even summer until you read an Elin Hilderbrand book?

KathyWheeler How is this book? I haven‘t read anything of hers since 28 Summers, which apparently everyone but me absolutely loved. 1y
Julsmarshall @KathyWheeler Good so far but similar to most of her books so it may not be for you. There are juicy and somewhat scandalous goings on, a small town vibe, and people making less than stellar decisions, but you can‘t help but root for some of them. This one is centered around a renovated (and haunted) hotel and as someone who spends a lot of my life in hotels, I‘m really enjoying that part! (edited) 1y
KathyWheeler @Julsmarshall I like some of her books — The Summer of 69 is one of my favorites, and I liked the Winter Street series — but others, such as The Matchmaker and 28 Summers just don‘t do anything for me. I started Golden Girl but wasn‘t in the mood and didn‘t get far enough to know whether I‘d like it or not. I may check this one out. 1y

This is my selection for this month‘s #titlesandtunes - #islandvibes 🏝️🎶🎋

This book is SO MUCH FUN!!
I‘m so happy I finally plucked it off my TBR for this prompt🤩
This song is mentioned in the book, it‘s playing in the hotel bar on opening day. It‘s so nostalgic and classy, I think it perfectly sets the mood for the story, returning a haunted, dilapidated hotel to its former glory.
Thanks for the wonderful prompt @Cinfhen & @BarbaraBB 😊

BarbaraBB The song is mentioned in the book? That is fabulous! 2y

This book was okay. I‘ve never read this author before, so not sure if this is how all her books are, but she references SO many pop culture things and just music playlists. I listened on audio, so not sure how the songs were displayed in the book. It‘s set in 2022 but doesn‘t mention covid at all (which I‘m totally okay with!) Set on Nantucket. Low pick for me.

We‘ve been walloped with winter again this last week and this was my #audiowintering read while I dealt with the driveway multiple times.

The narrator took a bit of adjustment on this one and it took me a second to understand the Grace part but this was a fun reminder of the summer months ahead. It had such a nice cast of characters, I‘d like to spend more time with them all.

But WTF is with the cover? This book never gets near the water.

janeycanuck Okay, @marleed - this one is completely ridiculous. The hotel is IN TOWN. There‘s very little time spent near the pool, let alone the open water!!! 2y
marleed Hahaha. I swear more than any other other, Elon‘s lovely covers do not match her stories. Nantucket, yes. Story, no. Elin deserves better than stock art, but at this point in my reading her canon I might be disappointed if they did because I‘m so entertained by how aggravating I find it. 2y

London billionaire, Xavier Darling, purchases and renovates The Hotel Nantucket. He hires Nantucket sweetheart Lisabet Keaton as his general manager and Lisabet puts together a staff who share the vision of the fate of the hotel turning it around. This book is filled with emotional tension and multiple points of view with a touch of historical reality.

I was really charmed by this! Easy, breezy, fluffy brain candy, with fun characters and a gossipy village feel to Nantucket that hit the spot. Plus an omnipresent ghost narrator from the hotel‘s heyday! Perfect for your beach bag with a couple of caveats. The incessant pop culture reference-dropping was annoying, and fat-shaming terminology and attitudes reared their (sadly not unusual) ugly head a few times. But a 4 ⭐️ heart-warmer non-the-less.

If you're an Elin Hilderbrand fan this will not disappoint. The Hotel Nantucket has recently been renovated and reopened to great fanfare, lore, and suspicion from the island locals. It's a classic, character driven Hilderbrand beach read (with a few twists, given that one perspective is from a ghost who passed in a fire at the hotel many years back). A very enjoyable vacation read that I'm just getting around to posting a review for! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

marleed I feel like I‘m close personnel friends with this community. I still don‘t know why someone from the Hilderbrand Nantucket‘s has not invited to stay and participate in the annual winter stroll! 2y

Well, this was all the fun I anticipate in a new Elin Hilderbrand with so many characters that it‘s easy to forget some from one chapter to the next. I have come to accept that mapping her characters is part of the experience. In this one, even the dead girl has a good chance of remaining a key character if there is more to come at this hotel.

History with a mystery, secrets and broken trusts, intrigue, underhanded dealings, hard work, play hard, success, broken hearts, self discovery, surprises, love.
