BookwormAHN I honestly think banning books is stupid. For one thing banning something creates the temptation of wanting it or wanting to read it. Mostly it just shows how backwards and ridiculous people are. Where I live in Louisiana in some schools Harry Potter is banned for promoting witchcraft 🤦🏼‍♀️ 2y

Adventures-of-a-French-Reader I moved to the US in 2014, my parents NEVER questioned if anything I was reading was appropriate for my age. I was reading, that's what mattered. We read Candid by Voltaire, Harold and Maud in middle school. The Metamorphosis by Ovid, and Germinal in high school. These books would be forbidden in a lot of US high schools. I guess some people like to get offended over nothing, and like to impose their views onto others... 2y

Chrissyreadit There‘s a lot of issues about control and manipulation. The underlying belief and practice includes limiting access to ideas and knowledge under the guise of protection. I listened to a podcast about dictatorships even occurs g within school boards. It all just makes me angry. It‘s another way to promote bias and ignorance. I could go on…… 2y

slategreyskies I think it‘s about control too. It scares me sometimes that any one group would be so forceful in their opinions as to want to restrict what everyone has access to. It‘s a slippery slope. First one thing is banned. Then another. Where does it stop? Also, a lot of the times book bans are put in place by people who‘ve never even read them! 2y

DarkMina Totally disagree with banning books. If you don‘t like a author or topic, don‘t read it. I‘m not for any kind of censorship. Claiming hurt feelings or disagreeing with a viewpoint aren‘t legitimate reasons. That is some of the problem here in the U.S.right now. (edited) 2y

wanderinglynn @slategreyskies yes! Like those who wanted to ban Harry Potter because it was about occultism, taught heretical lessons, or encouraged santanism. Clearly those folks never bothered to actually read the books. 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️ 2y

Happy Banned Books Week! I read them anytime, but I definitely make it a point to read a banned book every year during BBW. This year, I plan to read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. I‘ve never read it so I‘m looking forward to it!

I got my big display set up tonight for September which is featuring Banned Books Week! 🔥📚 I made little jail cells out of crates and had an overall really fun time putting it all together! I made a smaller version as well to go in the teen area! 📚💕 #librarylove #librariansoflitsy

CarolynM Fabulous! One of my most vivid memories of Berlin is the memorial to Nazi book burning in Bebelplatz. It's a clear Perspex square on the ground through which you look down to room sized cube lined with empty bookshelves. It sent shivers down my spine. 5y

I didn‘t get started yesterday as planned. I was outvoted for a day of reading by an Avengers Movie repeat-watch marathon which I must admit was well-worth it.🎥🍿 I decided to go with the Banned Books theme for #24B4Monday. Animal Farm as a reread and the other two books as a first time experience. I‘m exhilarated to devote any amount of time to this readathon. Going 💯 right now!

I‘ve never participated in a Readathon before. I‘m excited to give it a try. Actually, I think it is one of my New Year‘s Resolutions for 2019 so I am joining the party. I‘m a little late, but I don‘t have any plans for the rest of today. I can‘t commit much time to the effort tomorrow, but we‘ll see how it goes.
The requirement is banned books or is that just a suggestion?
