I personally don‘t like spooky stories but the tagged book is a favorite of my students! #sundayfunday @BookmarkTavern

BookmarkTavern I remember this book! I looked up the illustrations recently, and I just couldn‘t believe these were children‘s books. 😂 Thanks for posting! 6mo

Day 9 #Scarathlon Photo Challenge - Dark #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall

FlynnDewey Have you seen the movie? How would you say it fared against the book? (I haven't watched/read either.) 6mo
Fortifiedbybooks @FlynnDewey I haven't watched the movie, and I only read some of the stories when I was a kid. I'm hoping to read the book this year, finally, since it's been on my TBR for several years, and then I might watch the movie. 6mo

In_the_stacks Wait a sec...is this anthology actually edited or co-authored by Laura Ingalls Wilder?.. 3y
TheSpineView 👍😀📚 3y
aperfectmjk @NomiReads honestly I'm not sure, I'll have to double check, but that doesn't seem right. 3y
In_the_stacks @aperfectmjk haha I hope it is the case, though it does seem unusual! (edited) 3y
Reggie Omg, the girl who works in our employee dining room was reading this today. What a coincidence! 3y

I loved these stories when I was younger and had kind of forgotten all about them. I fell in love all over again with this complete collection of the stories. They are still as amazing as I remembered and it was a very quick read.

I remember these books scaring me so badly I wouldn‘t sleep in a room with a fireplace. Those were the ones that got me the most, with things coming down the chimney. I find, though, that I‘m not as susceptible to the scares as I once was. I still plan on seeing the movie though!

#Bloodcurdling #BlackCatChallenge @Clwojick
These stories felt totally bloodcurdling to me as a kid. At my hometown public library‘s summer sleepovers, the librarians would read aloud some of them to us. I reread them all last October and was pleased to find that they still felt spooky to me as an adult.

My daughter is 9 yo, reads a little above her age level, likes graphic novels as well a chapter books. She is looking for scary stories, thrillers, spooky...that type of thing. Any recommendations? Thank you!

bookhoarder513 Forgot to add...not a fan of Goosebumps. Makes me sad. Lol. I loved them as a kid 6y

saresmoore David Walliams does funny-weird, in the vein of Roald Dahl—not scary, per se, but may scratch that itch. (edited) 6y

Here's my entry for your giveaway. When I think of good illustrations I can't think of anything better than the illustrations done by Stephen Gammell in Alvin Schwartz's Scary Stories series. This is definitely one of my favorite illustrations out of the treasury book. Definitely the stuff nightmares are made of!!! 🤘🏻🦇🕸️🕷️

I can't think of better Creepy Characters then the Scary Stories series by Alvin Schwartz. I have yet to find creepier illustrations even in my adult life. Clive Barker comes close but these take the cake! 🎂 #ReadingResolutions @Jess7

Craftylikefox They have republished these books with not as scary illustrations but I think the illustrations are what helped make those stories so scary. They still give me a good spook! 6y

#ReadingInBed
I do not read in bed. I prefer my armchair with side table for coffee/snacks/books. However when I was a child I often read in bed & some of my fondest childhood memories are of reading in bed. Books by Shel Silverstein, Beverly Cleary (esp. Ralph & motorcycle), choose your own adventure & of course Alvin Schwartz's timeless "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" with Stephen Gammell's delightfully morbid, traumatizing illustrations.

LeahBergen That IS a freaky illustration! 😳 7y
vivastory @LeahBergen That is one of the tamer ones too! 7y
cathysaid Your reference to childhood made me remember when I was young, I didn't read in bed either. I had a huge king sized hand-me-down bed from a grandmother, so I would take my stuffed animals and blanket and read UNDER my bed. Safe from forced interaction with people 😜 7y
vivastory @cathysaid Everyone deserves a book fort of some sort 7y
RadicalReader Don‘t know which was more creepy the stories or the illustrations 5y
