I think this one was meant for people who have more appreciation for this music genre. That being said, I very much enjoyed the ride all the same♥️

Dave Grohl did a great job of narrating his memoir on audio. He definitely has a voice for storytelling. Through the chapter stories,we learn how he became a rock and roll star. He has a deep love for his mother, his wife, his children and Paul McCartney who he now considers a friend. There are an over abundance of expletives in this book, which I abhor. My opinion is that the profanity was not necessary, and detracted from my reading enjoyment.
I was drawn to punk/grunge, but the scene seemed fueled by apathy. I spent enough time in that headspace. This book is a whole lotta Grohl geeking out, and I am here. for. it. Yes, some tough stories. We all have those. The best parts are the ones where he recognizes in the moment that he‘s living his dream. It‘s also cool that he creates that moment for others.
This. Is. Fantastic. I listened to the audiobook and having him read it is epic. I adore him and this book was just too much fun. So enjoyable. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Current audio read. I have been waiting for my reserve on Libby since March! There has been so much love for this on Litsy that I have been really looking forward to it. Enjoying, but why the need for so much use of the F word? Almost gave up, but decided to stay with it.
This book was so interesting, I was genuinely sucked into his stories and life. It made me feel like a part of the punk-grunge scene in the 90s. Whether you‘re a fan of Dave Grohl or have no idea who he is you‘ll find yourself being taken along on his adventures and discovering a whole new way of life. It made me laugh and even tear up a little, this is a man who truly loves and lives for music.
God how I love a memoir told through individual vignettes illustrative of large parts of the writer‘s life! When it‘s done well, as Dave has, it has more emotional impact for me. And Dave is quite the storyteller!! I love how he is a nerd and the ultimate fan of other musicians. I adore his fierce love of his daughters. And I respect how kindly he treated his band mates and friends in this memoir.
@Cinfhen you were right: this was special.
I liked it. He seemed to jump around a bit; there were some things that seemed glossed over, but overall a good read for me.
Mr likeable makes himself a little more likeable. If you're a fan, you'll probably not learn too much but there's still a good amount of rockstar stories to make this a worthwhile and enjoyable read.
I don‘t read a lot of memoirs, but as a huge Foo Fighters fan, I knew I needed to listen to the this one, narrated by Dave Grohl himself. Full of heartfelt and honest tales from his childhood, years on the road as a rock star, and his family life. The chapter about the grief of dealing with the deaths of Kurt Cobain and his childhood best friend was extra sad knowing of the recent tragic passing of his band mate Taylor Hawkins. 👇🏼
I started this last week while we were in Hawaii. Foo Fighters & Nirvana are 2 of my favorite bands plus I love Dave Grohl. It was a good story & interesting to learn about his journey as a musician (plus is reflections on Kurt Cobain). My only quip is that there was some chronological order but then he would go back & forth (which I appreciate that he‘s incorporating experiences into his journey). #bookspin book
I laughed, I cried, I LOVED this. I‘m so glad I went the audio route, as I can‘t imagine reading this any other way. My heart is still hurting for Dave, and I hope he can find his way through yet another time of unimaginable grief.
Excellent! I'm a huge Dave Grohl/Foo Fighters fan, so probably biased. Dave tells a lot of great stories about his life, his friends, and the awesome people he met along the way.
This book was so amazing. I listened to the audiobook and it felt like I was just having a fun conversation with a friend for 11 hours. It was easily the best autobiography I‘ve ever read.
Highly recommend this one. It‘s well written, with humor, heart, and evidence of why Dave Grohl is such a well-liked dude.
I started this one shortly after Taylor died, so finishing it today, on the anniversary of Kurt‘s death, seems like a nod from the universe. Hoping Dave is okay today. I‘m glad he has a lot of love around him.
Listened on our drive to and from New Orleans. Really enjoyed it, Dave Grohl tells a great story and I enjoyed hearing about his amazing experiences in the music world and beyond. He reads it himself and it felt like a great night of catching up with an old friend. There are sad moments, his memories of Kurt Cobain are so bittersweet, and the recent death of Taylor Hawkins overshadows it all. RIP, Taylor. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
Finished this and watched his new movie a couple weeks ago. I loved getting to know Grohl through his creative, funny and thoughtful writing. The movie I didn‘t like as much. Getting to know his band mates and past struggles through this book makes my heart break more hearing about the untimely death of his good friend and drummer Taylor Hawkins.
1. This book is amazing and I‘m really sad for Dave.
2. Wtf? This shipped new from Target in November and I never cracked it open before a few days ago. Wtf is this torn page about!?! I am so annoyed.
Editing as now I‘m annoyed AND insulted. A 2nd book ordered in Feb had a torn cover, so I emailed about both.
The pictured book they can‘t do anything about. The other one? They refunded me sixty. Four. Cents.
No more books from Target for me.
I have no words. I saw this late last night and have been thinking about Dave Grohl all day—he went from being a drummer who lost his frontman to a frontman who lost his drummer. And best friend. Taylor Hawkins was the only drummer who could keep you from being disappointed that Dave wasn‘t the drummer in the band. Goodnight, Taylor. I hope you can rest now that the demons are gone.
4.5 STARS - An outstanding audiobook memoir, Dave tells his story from his early childhood through is fame and to his time as a family man. This book lives up to its hype. The audiobook (and the hardcover) are amazing.

There are so many tragic events going on in the world right now. Taylor‘s death really knocked me out for the count this morning. I know how I and many of his fans are feeling right now but I can‘t imagine what it must be like for his bandmates. And now Dave has lost a second band brother and a best friend. 💕💕💕
💔
Listening to this in the car and Dave mentions how he‘s Nirvana‘s “faceless drummer,” so he barely gets recognized except when random folks ask, “ARE YOU DAVE NAVARRO?”
I died. I swear 😂😂😂
Absolutely loved this! 💯 Grohl is so genuine and humble, and he tells stories from his awesome life like he‘s talking to a good friend. Recommend!

He‘s just talked about Kurt‘s death and I‘m now an emotional wreck. 😭
Dave Grohl has some great tales. I highly recommend his audio book to hear his story in his voice. Amazing!
Everyone needs to read this one.
How he wrote this book makes you feel like you are in the room with him just talking.
The emotion and love he out into this book was fantastic. I have a huge love for Foo fighters and nirvana.
Seriously one of the best books I have read so far.
When your husband is a big Foo Fighters fan, tagged book is required reading.
This memoir is an endearing and touching account of the rock star /drummer, Dave Grohl who played for Scream, Nirvana, and founded FuFighters. He is a son of a single mother school teacher who supported her son‘s choice to play drums in place of going to college. What a bold choice in the 90‘s! Yes, he is incredibly fortunate and he shares his gratitude and awe at every turn. His is an amazing story only believable from the storyteller himself.
I‘ve always liked the group,Nirvana.I‘ve always really liked the Foo Fighters. And I‘ve always liked David Grohl, but never as I much as I do now, after reading this book.I actually did the audio version,in which he was the narrator. What a well spoken, loving human being! He deserves all of the blessings that he has received in life so far, and many more in the future. This book leaves me longing for more. Maybe a Foo Fighter concert is in my future.
Rock stars, they‘re just like us! Seriously, Dave Grohl seems like such a solid guy. I feel like he‘d be a great neighbor: fun to talk with, he‘d throw great parties, has amazing & famous friends, and he‘d always pickup the tab. The experiences, friendships, heartaches and triumphs make this such a compelling listen/read. It‘s music history and a biography, and I absolutely loved it.
I ordered this book from Head House Books in Philly along with a ticket to an online conversation between Grohl and Terry Gross as a fundraiser for FreshAir. I read the book then listened to it on my Libby app. It is so good! He‘s a good writer with a conversational style that makes the reader/listener feel as though he‘s talking to you directly. His self-deprecating humor is laugh aloud funny but shelters a sensitive spirit that shines through.
Fucking epic! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

I was sucked in from page one. He reads the audiobook himself and tells his stories with such passion. You‘ll appreciate it more if you are a musician (I‘m not), or a huge fan of his, but it‘s fun regardless. His collection of memories are a strange and wonderful mix. There are rockstar concert mishaps and there are first crushes in a classic suburban neighborhood. It‘s a bit flowery at times, but it‘s easy to get lost in his childlike enthusiasm.

Effortlessly humble and eminently enjoyable. Dave Grohl‘s memoir is one of my favorite books, and it showcases his affable nature and emotional maturity — through strife and triumph.
I've got mixed emotions on this book. It is not chronological and at times I found this a bit confusing. Some parts were really interesting and others felt really long and drawn out. The good parts were really good but not enough for me to highly recommend the book.
My Goodreads app has been glitchy. I uninstalled & reinstalled this morning. But in the meantime, I decided to commit to using StoryGraph, as well.
I‘ve been holding out because I don‘t like that you can‘t customize your shelves. I do, however, like that it‘s not owned by an evil corporation. It‘s marketed as “the black-owned, ethical alternative” to GR. And it‘s got some neat features.

I liked Grohl‘s memoir. It was a fun read, especially as a Gen X‘er. There are many aspects of his life that are omitted. The book really is focused upon his life in music and, mostly, his positive experiences and influences in music. For that reason, there are parts of the book that feel “an inch deep”.
I would have never listened to this if so many people on Litsy hadn‘t said how excellent it is. And I agree! This has got to be one of the best audiobooks I‘ve ever listened to. You can really hear the emotions in Grohl‘s voice as he talks. I loved too that he grew up not too far from where I live.
Loved hearing how Dave Grohl grew up and became the musician he is today. He‘s humble, realizes how fortunate he is and has some fun stories to tell along the way. I especially enjoyed the stories from the 90‘s music scene. 🎶
Up early getting a head start on my audio cooking/Readathon weekend before work starts. #20in4 @Andrew65
Wow, this audiobook is so good, and I would have never listened to it if it weren‘t for Litsy. #BlameItOnLitsy

Musical Memoirs
I‘m not a huge fan but still wanted to hear his stories. Nicely done. Make sure to stick around after he says goodbye. He has one more story to tell - like an encore.
I listened to the audiobook, and I commend Dave Grohl, he‘s a talented narrator.
I came for Nirvana. I‘m really not a Foo Fighters fan. I stayed for Dave‘s stories of his family and friends. Especially the close relationship he has with his daughters. (Brought tears to my eyes more than once.)
Imagine Joan Jett reading your bedtime stories? Incredible.
This is an ode to loving music and to living with joy. Definitely 5 ⭐️
