Librarybelle Overall, some good reflections. I liked the stories in each section that helped solidify the message for that section. I was not as enchanted with the book as I had hoped I would be, but I‘m so glad I read it! 13h
TheBookHippie I‘m so sorry I bailed too many “pissed me off quips” 🤪😂😂😂🥴😩🤷🏻‍♀️😝 I‘m sure there was good in it for someone. I generally don‘t read these type books. 😅 10h
Crinoline_Laphroaig I didn't read the tagged book but previous one Calm Christmas and Happy New Year was a gamechanger for me. I want to reread every year. Thank you. 10h
AllDebooks @Librarybelle I felt the same, some nuggets of wisdom in there. 9h
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie lol, fair enough 🤣 9h
AllDebooks @Crinoline_Laphroaig I'm so glad you enjoyed the Christmas book. 😊 9h
TheBookHippie @AllDebooks I bailed both books 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I cannot. 9h
Julsmarshall I listened to it on #audio and like @Librarybelle , found a few gems that resonated with me. I never would have found this book without the challenge so thanks, @AllDebooks ! 9h

#VirginiaBloomsberries January's #buddyread discussion thread.

📚 What did you think of the various writing styles between stories?
📚 Did you enjoy any particular stories? If so, why?
📚 Do you like the stream-of-consciousness style she uses?

All are welcome to join us. Please let me know if you wish to be added/removed from the taglist.

Next up - Jacob's Room https://litsy.com/p/c3lpd2JsbHJN

Librarybelle Still playing catchup, but please keep me on the tag list. I fell behind but want to read her works in order, so it‘ll be a bit before I‘m up with the group. 13h
Cuilin What I find interesting about Woolf‘s writing is that I really enjoy it while I‘m reading and two days later I forgotten the majority of what I‘ve read. I remember birds flying over a town. Oh and a group of women asking if men are worth the praise bestowed on them? 12h

TheBookHippie I prefer her short stories and stream of consciousness over her long ones. I read a few twice to soak them in. I printed out Monday or Tuesday for my collage journal. 11h
AllDebooks @Librarybelle please don't feel under pressure. It's a relaxed group. Enjoy them as and when you get to them. 😊 9h
AllDebooks @Cuilin that's true. 🤣 I did enjoy Kew Garden with the view pint of the flower bed. 9h
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie adding them to your journal is a good idea 💡 9h
TheBookHippie I didn‘t fully check this out but it appears to be our February book https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNAdq9NHTlw 9h
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie oh lovely, thank you for the link x 6h

Bookwormjillk I enjoyed this book a lot. I‘m not sure I found it hopeful. More like there is promise of hope if we do the right thing. I thought the audiobook was very well done. You could hear the emotions in the author‘s voice. 15h
Roary47 I really enjoyed the book also. I show a video to my classes every year called The Plastic Ocean and it has the same tone, and much of the same information. It is nice to see the change that happens to my students after they realize how much just plastic is causing on aquatic ecosystems. I think a change for the better is the aim by the tone they have. I also listened to the audio which was really nicely done @Bookwormjillk 13h
TheBookHippie @Bookwormjillk I felt this way too. I love the ocean so much and I fear for it. The book is very well written and I think it‘s a must read. Done very well. I had a library book and I had to wait for it so that‘s encouraging. 11h

It‘s time for our discussion, #LiteraryCrew ! There are 9 questions posted as spoilers that can be found on my feed, the book‘s feed, or by searching the group‘s hashtag. Mixed reviews on this one, so I‘m interested to see your thoughts!

Next month‘s book is Charlotte Bronte‘s Villette; the reminder will be posted tomorrow.

Thanks for joining this #BuddyRead !

Jerdencon I was listening to this one but didn‘t finish it before the library took it back! It was interesting and I have heard about people who have the color issue - I have to redownload it and finish it. 1d
Librarybelle I hope you‘ll be able to get it back soon, @Jerdencon ! 1d
Karisa I finished it on audiobook and enjoyed it. I agree that it wasn‘t what I thought it‘d be from the description. I thought it was going to be more directly linked to Hester. However, I ended up enjoying it quite a bit. Early American life came to life and Hawthorn as a character was interesting. 7m
Librarybelle @Karisa It was very interesting to read about early American life! 5m

8. It is true that Nathaniel Hawthorne is related to John Hathorne, one of the Salem Witch Trial judges and the one who refused to believe the whole episode was a hoax. Hawthorne was so ashamed by his ancestry that he added a “w“ to his last name (short bio on Hawthorne linked in the comments).

Have you read any of Hawthorne's works? What did you think of his character in the novel? #LiteraryCrew #BuddyRead

Pogue I read the House of the Seven Gables. I Dont remember much about it, but I do remember the tour of the House of Seven Gables and the damage women‘s high heels did to the flooring. 1d
Librarybelle @Pogue That‘s so interesting! 1d
