This novella about a widow immediately after her loss was jarring and tender at the same time. Works well on audio because it relies heavily on dialogue. While the long phone call format is interesting, it‘s also the reason this is a so so and not a pick for me.

There are so many themes packed into this compact little novel I know I will reread it one day. Haunting and mysterious, this is a classic of Mexican literature that lovers of magical realism will not want to miss.

So I got lucky and @HarperCollins sent me some galleys from their new imprint Levine Queriso. It seems to focus #uniquestories some #ownvoices some #booksintranslation. The tagged book has shown up in #coverlove so I‘m excited to have a copy and Blue wings looks interesting. Plus I love how they formatted these galley cover. The black design rather than the standard white. Can‘t wait to read them. Check out their catalog because the PB look fun.

I‘ve got to tell you: this is a HEAVY read, more horror than whodunnit. Trigger warnings for literally everything you can imagine. It has these beautiful long lyrical sentences that lure you in, but the visceral, carnal, brutal nature of the events it depicts are not for the faint of heart. A challenging and confronting book.
