‘A high school show-and-tell session explodes into a nightmare of evil...‘

Read this in January for the #LosersClub.

Starts with a shooting then turns into something that reminds me of a twisted version of The Breakfast Club. Great writing. Strange twist.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Welcome to the #LosersClub open discussion for #Rage
Please be mindful of spoilers. We have new readers to King who haven‘t read all of his books. When referencing his other work, please keep this in mind for our new-to-King friends. Don‘t forget to tag each other in the comments so your friends can see your reply. Have fun!

AllDebooks I had to bail on this, too much for me, along with The Long Walk! 😱 5mo
BarkingMadRead @AllDebooks it was a lot, and knowing that he pulled it from the shelves added a little weight! 5mo

Karkar What always surprises me about this one every time I read it is back when he wrote it school shootings were not a thing. But you would think from this book he wrote it today. 5mo
5feet.of.fury Yeah, that was nuts. I can see why he pulled it after Columbine (and the continued epidemic of school shootings) with the way Charlie is presented in the end/showing the impact on the hostages as positive. 5mo
BookwormAHN @5feet.of.fury That always bothered me too. It was almost cult leaderish. 5mo
5feet.of.fury @BookwormAHN agree! Cult leader is what came into my mind, too. 5mo

One of the many benefits of having a Little Free Library is occasionally going out to add a few books and finding a new to you book on the shelf. I love Stephen King, but I've never read any of his Bachman books, so I brought this one inside with me to check out.
#lfl

TheBookgeekFrau This is meant to be read in conjunction with Desperation (the two book covers even go together to make one big picture). I remember when these books came out, it was all the AOL chatrooms could talk about 😂 6mo
BarkingMadRead This is so good, you will love it. It connects to a bunch of books going forward as well 6mo
Traci1 @TheBookgeekFrau lol, AOL chat rooms takes me back. What a time to be alive that was. Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can snag Desperation off libby. 6mo
TheBookgeekFrau @Traci1 Right?! It was hard not to laugh while typing that 😂 6mo

This month‘s book is #Rage Grab your copy and check back at the end of the month for open discussion! Don‘t forget to tag me so I can see which version you have! #LosersClub #StephenKing #StephenKingInOrder #KingFromTheBeginning #ConstantReader #ReadAlong #BuddyRead

5feet.of.fury I found a link on Reddit where you can read the full book online which I would never officially advocate for, but I know this one is hard to find. So, just putting it out there. Happy googling to those impacted (edited) 6mo
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury I feel like if you could buy the book but read it that way, that would be like taking money from the author. But if the book isn‘t available for sale 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6mo

5feet.of.fury @BarkingMadRead yeah, I‘m gonna hit up a couple of the used bookstores near me (on the off chance they don‘t know what they have, because wow those prices) but it‘s my backup plan. King has alot of my money 😂 I‘ll sleep ok this once haha 6mo
JenlovesJT47 You can also download it for free here, since it is unavailable for sale: https://annas-archive.org/md5/47f228955fd87588ff9965f1e5cc92cb 6mo
TieDyeDude @5feet.of.fury @barkingmadread King has specifically let “Rage“ go out-of-print, so read it wherever you can find it with a clear conscience! https://screenrant.com/stephen-king-rage-book-out-print-controversy-explained/ (edited) 6mo
BarkingMadRead @TieDyeDude yes, that is correct 6mo
ImperfectCJ I know my mom has a copy of The Bachman Books, but she's 2000 miles away and not at all keen on splitting up her King collection, even temporarily. I'm probably skipping this one for now, although it would be interesting to read again with the context of a few decades. 6mo

BookwormAHN Is this the one that was banned? 6mo
BarkingMadRead @BookwormAHN King actually banned it himself. I didn‘t realize that. It‘s not available for sale anymore, I‘m not sure if libraries carry it. 6mo
BookwormAHN I found a copy years ago of a similar book like yours with it. 6mo
BarkingMadRead @BookwormAHN I checked Amazon, and this book only has 3 books in it now 6mo
BookwormAHN They have them on ebay starting at around $50 and I found mine on alibris for around that price back when this first started. 6mo
Fortifiedbybooks I won't be able to participate this month, The book isn't for sale (other than costly collectibles) and my library doesn't have the individual title or the collection. 6mo
BarkingMadRead @Fortifiedbybooks so sorry! I had no idea when I made the schedule 🙈 King fan fail 6mo
Fortifiedbybooks @BarkingMadRead that's ok! Honestly, this will give me the month to catch up on some other reading challenges I'm participating in! 😂 6mo
MatchlessMarie It‘s available on internet archive. I‘m not sure of the ethics of that seeing that it‘s out of print but… 🫣 6mo

I am so used to having great characters by this author and I was disappointed. I felt for Charlie but he didn't feel dangerous like you would expect in this situation. Secondary characters were pretty flat. I wasn't worried for them.

I love hostage stories - they are usually so thrilling. Not this one. People were just telling stories and babbling, I was super disappointed.

I waited all the time that something would happen. And there didn't.

“Master storyteller Stephen King (writing as Richard Bachman) presents this gripping and remarkable New York Times bestselling crime novel about a damaged young man who embarks on an ill-advised kidnapping plot—a work as taut and riveting as anything he has ever written.”
