This was an alright thriller. My mind wasn't blown, but I was engaged. Mildly predictable. This would make a good beach read, interesting enough but you don't have to think too hard.

I loved this book so much, I wish it were a series so I could stay in this world. Very similar idea to the movie A Quiet Place, only the creatures don't come from space but from an undiscovered cave system. (Also this book came out before the movie. There is another movie based on this one , not sure if it's any good.) I'm a sucker for a good post apocalyptic story.

Hilton cheated death as a child, and now he is worries that death is coming to take what is owed. It was a low pick, I loved the concept, but didn't completely hold my attention. Seeing how this is her debut, I look forward to reading more from Due.

I saw a clip of a podcast where they talked about a guy who crashes funerals to confess secrets and confront mourners on behalf of the deceased. Found this book, thought it would be a fun quirky read. Did not expect to be bulldozed with alternating chapters of his horrific childhood. I almost DNF'd as that was not what I wanted to read in that moment, and it was pretty brutal right out the gate. Guess I should have researched better.

2/2 More generous gifts from @AshRob22 🖤🧡 Thank you! I love everything, especially those earrings! I need to give a shout out to the effort made in the wrapping as well. Unfortunately my photos weren't doing any kind of justice, but I wholeheartedly appreciate it. Happy Halloween everyone! 🧡👻🖤🎃 @MaleficentBookDragon Thank you for hosting! #AHRS #AHRS2025

1/2 OMG Ashley you absolutely went above and beyond! 🖤💀🖤 Thank you so very much for my #AHRS gifts. I can't even fit everything in one post! I'm excited for all these reads, thank you for the bonus book. I have not read that one yet either. 🤯😊 @AshRob22 @MaleficentBookDragon #AHRS2025

Ok, so Canada Post is sorta back in business. I've sent my package off today, so hopefully it arrives by the end of the month. 🤞🎃👻📚 I'm going to have to spoil the surprise and tag may partner just in case. @DinoMom @MaleficentBookDragon #AHRS

Mila can't accept that her best friend killed herself, so she resurrects her from the dead to try and find out what really happened. A fun read, but it also touched on some deeper topics like suicide, grief and bullying. It didn't dig too deep but definitely something to start a conversation.

Gothic horror just doesn't hold my attention. I need more action and less atmosphere. This might have been better as a physical book. At the end the author seemed to switch from using first names to Mrs. So&So, and I couldn't keep track of whodunit.

Set in 1840s Mexico, a mix of romance, historical fiction, and supernatural/vampires. I loved it. Mild on the horror, heavy on the romance. So if you just like to dip your toes in the horror genre, this is a good pick.

This was definitely a cover buy. A solid collection of horror themed short stories. I don't usually care for short stories, but some of these were quite good.

I'm not usually into books about haunted houses but I thought I'd try this one. I really liked it. No subtle build up here, the ghosts are part of life right from the go. I wouldn't say it was scary, definitely some gore and violence. Parts were predictable, but the ending was satisfying. A fun read!

Mother Horror does it again. A reading list of female horror authors. If you're looking to diversify your horror reads, pick up this book. It is categorized by vibes, which I loved, as I'm a moody reader. My TBR has gone way up. I also recommend following Mother Horror on Instagram as she is always posting great horror recs.

YA, dystopian, sapphic, cli-fi(?). It was just ok, the ending was blah, but there's obviously going to be a sequel. YA doesn't hit for me like it used to. Which I suppose makes sense, since I'm not the target demographic.

I loved The Martian, and this did not disappoint. Same humour and lots of science. I hope they do a good job on the movie. 🎧📖

Extreme horror. Bored housewife Delilah teams up with her new neighbor Peggy, who had terminal cancer and is on a mission to hunt and torture as many pedos and rapists possible with the little time she has left. The concept is great, but the writing was absolutely terrible. I'm glad it was just a novella.

SciFi/Creature/Cosmic Horror. I didn't know anything going into this, other than it was suggested for a summer horror read. A low pick. War of the Worlds, meets Predator, meets Castaway. Very suspenseful.

🎧📖 True Crime and cults are right up my alley so this should have been an easy pick. Unfortunately it was an absolute slog. I guess it was the writing style, think it could have used some editing. It was just really hard to get through as it didn't hold my attention at all. Disappointing.

Pick. Fast pacing and short chapters made this a quick read. I also enjoyed the writing style, alternating POVs that flowed well. The plot was a bit outlandish unrealistic, so that took away from how horrific the story was. I'm more freaked out by hyper realistic scenarios. And the twist was meh. But I still enjoyed it.

😬

A vampire western. A slow burn. Not quite what I was expecting, but I enjoyed it.

John Douglas books are always fascinating. Bring back Mindhunter on Netflix you cowards!!

This may be a short novella, but it sure is horrifying. Miller is about to marry her girlfriend, but before that happens she wants to try and reconcile with her estranged mother by spending a weekend away together. Unfortunately her mother has other plans. This book stressed me out from start to finish.

I don't know how I feel about this one. The entire time I never really understood what was going on, like I missed something. I think maybe it was Ward's writing style. I guess overall it's about family and mothers and daughters. It was weird and unsettling. TW for abuse, both people and animals.

I love me an "unconventional" family memoir audio book. Ruth tells the story of growing up in a polygamous mormon community in Mexico. Fascinating, infuriating, and tragic. Recommended for fans of The Glass Castle, North of Normal, and the like.

🎧📖 I don't really get the hype, I almost DNF'd. MC whines the entire time about the situation that she put herself in. I guess there are a number of hot topics that would be good for a book club/discussion, but I just couldn't get past the unlikable MC.

Post apocalyptic. A remote northern indigenous community slowly comes to the realization that the world they know has changed forever. A slow burn, but never felt like it was dragging. I definitely guessed what was going to happen in the end, but it was an enjoyable read, and felt very realistic.

Extreme horror. Lori is an obsessed pen pal of a serial killer, who sends her on a quest to find a key and deliver it to the River Man. Along the way more and more of her past is revealed and it is shocking. Creepy, atmospheric, gory. There is a supernatural element that normally would put me off, but it works in this case.

This was a Litsy/cover buy. A different take on the haunted house trope, as it's about grief. I don't really like to explore that subject too much so it was just ok for me, as I wasn't going to go look too deep into it.

Slasher horror. Bloody, gory, violent, it was fun. Reminded me of The Hills Have Eyes.

Modern explorers do exist, especially in Canada's vast and unforgiving wilderness. We follow Shoalts as he seeks out an uncharted waterway. I've seen reviews complaining that the author comes off as vain and egotistical, but I didn't really get that from the audio. I think every explorer in history has to be vain to some degree, to even attempt their exploits. I do wish I had read a physical copy tho, as I assume it would include photos & maps.

⚠️ EXTREME HORROR⚠️ This book was effed up! Vile, disturbing, violent, traumatizing, and I can't think of a TW this didn't have. 5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐! I was nervous to start this one as it is notorious, but it was excellent. Lisa is kidnapped and forced to star in a sn*ff film, and she will do whatever it takes to save herself and her unborn child... So yeah. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't just about shock value. There is actually a plot ⬇️

Creepy creature horror. I love Ania Ahlborn, but this was not my favourite. I didn't care for the POV of the kid, once the second POV came in it was better. The ending also left me with more questions than answers.

A low pick. Your typical Christmas romance, which was what I was in the mood for. Started off well, but got pretty redundant by the end.

An excellent thriller about a serial killer who targets young boys, that also explores father son relationships. Fast paced, and enthralling.

I thought this was going to be a thriller, turns out it was a YA slasher horror. So not what I was in the mood for. Didn't love it didn't hate it. Definitely could have been better.
