Riveted_Reader_Melissa I read this one earlier this year, it was a fun little read, but I‘m not really a cookbook person so the recipes were lost on me. 4y

khooliha @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I -really- tried to pay attention to the recipes this time (and I may well just be bad at it) but they were lost on me too! 4y

khooliha I haven't tried to make the fish breakfast, alas, because grocery shopping is stressful enough now without me trying to find smoked haddock. Someday! 4y

khooliha Also, my favorite bit was Unlucky Charlie, who feels like he was simply cut from a full novel, possibly for being too long a footnote. 4y

Gezemice @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @khooliha I am still reading it and am now at Unlucky Charlie. zi gad the same feeling, this seems like Stephen Briggs wanted to make a Discworld companion book and Pratchett said, “here, have these random notes”. He then organized it, got some recipes, and we got a book. Definitely only for Discworld fans. And the recipes are not really the point. 4y

Gezemice @Caroline2 It is a fun little book, but it really is just full of references to existing books. I revommend starting with Mort or Men At Arms for Discworld novices. The Color of Magic is more of a flurry of humorous ideas than a good book. 4y

gossamerchild I thought this was pretty fun. There were enough snarky comments in the cookbook section that kept me going 😆😆. The illustrations were incredible! 4y

I am bad at cooking, I always ruin it, so I can't review this book as a cookbook, but as a weird piece of Discworld ephemera? I think it's a lot of fun! It's full of wonderful Paul Kidby art, and I love the touch of metatext with the publisher notes. Just delightful. As for trying a recipe I guess I'll maybe try the Vimes fish breakfast(???)?

I've decided to start this one early, in case I want to take a crack at making something in it. I truly, truly love this cover! This book is also one I bought on vacation in England years and years ago, long before it got published here. I saved up for months to mostly buy extraneous Discworld books because I was a Cool Teen.

Although I didn‘t enjoy the recipes nearly as much as the sage, practical, and silly advice of Nanny Ogg, this was a fun diversion to dip into now and again as the mood struck for some levity.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JazzFeathers They were recipes contributed by residents of Discworld, so some might be ok..nanny‘s were suggestive (if you know the character, you‘ll think, of course), but you also got the librarian‘s recipe for banana (a banana), dwarf bread (but without the rocks), etc. I‘m betting you could cook some/most of them, but I enjoyed the play on characters more than the actual recipes. So for me, more fun than tempting. 5y

khooliha I tried making the Frog Pills from this a million years ago and they didn't set. I'm thinking of trying again when the reread gets around to this book! 5y

Gezemice The recipes are not the point, really. Even if you really want to try... it is British cooking. There are better cookbooks outthere. 4y
