This is the 4th book in the series and a little hard to get through. Everyone on Reddit says to polish through cause it‘s setting up the next 2 books and they were right.. the last 4 chapters of the book definitely got the ball rolling! I‘m excited and scared to start the 5th book in the series 📚

Equal in mayhem and violence as the Red Rising trilogy, Iron Gold adds a deeper layer of introspection through multi-povs, revelling in the inner streams of consciousness of four flawed characters. Action packed, mature, Homeric; reminiscent of Greek tragedies. I was enthralled by the interwoven narratives; favouring Darrow's, Lyria's, and Ephraim's, all fraught with emotional insight, whilst harbouring contempt for Lysander. Highly devourable.

DGRachel Lysander is a gorydamn pixie. 😂 4mo

This book as a little different than the previous ones in the series because it hops back and forth between the perspectives of different characters. I enjoy that it includes the perspective of Lysander since he was previously considered an "enemy".
The book ends on a cliffhanger and I'm curious to read more!

What happens after the revolution? That‘s what this continuation of the Red Rising trilogy poses. It certainly isn‘t a happily ever after. This book does introduce a number of new characters, and has some our old favorites. I‘m glad I listened to this on audiobook, but I was still a bit lost at times. However, this was action packed and tense. I look forward to continuing the series. 4⭐️ #bookbinge #rushathon

One of my favorite author events ever—not only because Pierce Brown is as good a storyteller in person as he is on the page, but also because I went to this signing with my daughter (in middle school at the time). So fun to go together & have an opportunity to tell Brown how much we both love his books.

Have a favorite signed book? A favorite author meeting? I‘d love to hear your stories!

#CuriousCovers Day 12: Gold

Elements of gold on both of these covers. The original Red Rising trilogy is one of my favorite fantasy/sci-fi stories, and have been really enjoying revisiting them in audiobook form with my boyfriend over the past year. Still have not read the continuing books in the series.

Stopped by my favorite thrift shop for book buying on Saturday and found these two “like new” hardback copies for only $1.50 each. Couldn‘t pass up such a deal, plus I needed to add these to my series collection (even though the first 3 are all in paperback). I still haven‘t started the second half of this series, so hopefully this will be inspiration to continue on this summer. The original Red Rising trilogy is still one of my fave series.

When I read this when it was first released I wasn't a big fan. Having read it now right after the first three, I loved it. 💛

Brown does a great job of showing the issues that come with war. Darrow thinks he's doing what is right and fighting for freedom, but the people of Mars are still oppressed.

Now I can finally read the newest in this series which I haven't read yet.

Audio books and planes go together like peanut butter and jelly. Really enjoying the Red Rising Saga on audiobook! The fourth one is the first one to expand into other characters viewpoints and it‘s been interesting to learn how the stories intertwine.

I FINALLY FINISHED! Now I‘m still trying to figure out how I feel about it. 😂 There was SO MUCH going on that its enormity and scope was impressive, but also a bit much? A lot of the book was crazy battles and kind of setting up the pieces for the next book, and I also really didn‘t like a specific choice that was made about a character. Even so, this is such an epic book series, and I‘m excited to see how it all comes together in book 6.

DGRachel I still haven‘t read this. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I cried through the first three chapters when it came out, put it down, and haven‘t gotten back to it. 5y
Bookish_Viking This is probably one of the hardest series (in terms of emotional turmoil) that I‘ve ever read. 5y
Merethebookgal @DGRachel It‘s definitely emotionally draining and the violence just gets worse as it goes on 5y
Merethebookgal @ReaperOfTerrasen Definitely agree! 5y
DGRachel This is probably a really #unpopularopinion: I LOVED the original trilogy, but I was exhausted by Iron Gold. I understand why Brown added multiple POVs, but I kind of wish he‘d left the world of Red Rising alone after Morning Star and gone on to do something completely different. I‘m not even sure I‘ll ever read Dark Age, at this point, if I‘m honest, although I will, of course, buy the next book. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 5y

I finished my reread of this in prep for Dark Age. I enjoyed itmore the second time around. I was able to give up all my preconceived notions of what this book should be and what should happen. That allowed me to be more immersed and enjoy it more. 5 ⭐️ Now on to Dark Age. No doubt it will be a rough one.

I haven‘t been able to put Red Rising down since I started reading the first trilogy, and now I have a little break before book #5. For the first time in the series, I need a break. This one ends on a weird note.

As a whole, I love this series. It‘s really unique and the characters are excellent. The world just keeps getting bigger and more detailed.

DGRachel Yeah - I was mad when Morning Star's publication was delayed, but I've actually been grateful for putting off Dark Age as long as it has been delayed. I know it will be phenomenal, but I'm rather dreading it. 😞 5y

Also snagged this at the library this morning! It is a lot thicker than I thought it would be. Definitely the longest of the four so far. I‘m not sure where this is going to go after the ending of Morning Star. I have heard it‘s a lot different than the other ones but I‘m anxious to find out for myself. I also checked out the audiobook so I can listen in the car and when I‘m out walking. Another fabulous #SeriesRead I‘m looking forward to!

BookaholicNatty @MellieAntoinette I know right!!!!! I had thought in the end of the second book or the beginning of the third what would happen if Mustang got pregnant. So that thought did cross my mind. But Cassius had me fooled man! And I seriously thought Sevro was dead and I was like noooooo! That ending had me fooled so bad! I just didn‘t see that coming at all. What did you think?? 6y
KarouBlue @BookaholicNatty I wasn‘t expecting mustang (or anyone) to wind up as Ruler. But they have a son!!! I wonder if that‘s what people mean by this ending disappointed them?? It was a little undo redo. But I personally felt like it fit. I wanted Jackal to have a harsher end! 6y

I was hesitant to continue the Red Rising saga after finishing Morningstar. I have to admit, I was disappointed with the uncreative ending Pierce Brown chose for his first trilogy, but I had been so sucked in by the rest of the books it had become one of my favorites. I was hesitant to begin the next trilogy with the introduction of 3 narrators outside of Darrow, but you got me Pierce! I am loving it all 😍

So excited to get back into the series! Hoping so hard this doesnt disappoint! Am I the only one that found the very end of the third book a little lack luster -- like hello show some emotion? Or is that just me haha

hannahx I totally agreed. Just starting Iron Gold after attempting to resist. I was completely entrenched in Morningstar, and the ending sucked. So far Iron Gold is not disappointing. 6y
idealityandme @hannahx exactly! I was hoping for more of a reaction or more emotion! I think this author does so well with character development along with other points of story telling but there are some disappointing moments for sure. He misses some opportunities that otherwise could be epic. 6y

Pierce Brown sure ain‘t afraid to hurt his characters. This is one of those books where everyone runs around making terrible life choices that are nonetheless understandable when you consider each character‘s view of their (often desperate) situation. It‘s also one of those books where nobody‘s really a good guy or a bad guy. Everyone‘s awful at least some of the time, yet no one feels irredeemable.

I‘m eager to see where they all go next.

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I really need to start this series.. ☺️ 6y
