This entire book felt like an old-time slapstick comedy movie. It did make me laugh out loud several times, but ultimately, it was just too silly. I kept waiting for it to be over.

Oh my dear Jane Austen, I do love you so.
Rereading this for #JaneAustenThenAndNow was a total delight.
For #SeriesLove2025 , I have decided to read all the Beatrix Potter books. In January, I read The Tale of Peter Rabbit, which was like visiting a dear old friend, and The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin, which I had not read before. Although Squirrel Nutkin is adorable to look at, I was quite surprised by his rudeness of manner! 🐿️
@Andrew65 @TheSpineView
I have a fun variety of books to read for #MonthlyNonfiction2025 this month!
Ten Birds That Changed the World for #Naturalitsy @AllDebooks
Bad Feminist for #AuthorAMonth @Soubhiville
Blackbeard the Pirate for #BookedInTime @Cuilin
#5JoysFriday (on Sunday!) @DebinHawaii
I can see why this is such a popular book club pick. There is so much going on - the theme of right vs. wrong vs. morally gray being played out in numerous scenarios involving various combinations of characters. I didn't like any of the characters, which normally would make me dislike a book, but this was an exception. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and the way it challenged me to see all sides of several difficult issues.
#ReadOrDonate
My #ReadOrDonate choice for February is Kunstlers in Paradise, which has been calling out to me for a year or so now. This is the month!
What will everyone else be reading/donating?

To my utter amazement, I find myself currently enmeshed in various stages of FOUR different chunksters. How did this even happen? Hoping I can finish at least one of them by the end of February. 😳🤪
#AllergicToChunksters
I'm excited to be able to participate in #HyggeHourReadathon ! I'm not usually home on Sunday nights. I'm audio puzzling and listening to Hester, which I'm really enjoying.
@AllDebooks @TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit
#LiteraryCrew @Librarybelle
So much to discuss in this book - a great book club selection. Excellent sense of time and place - feels very realistic, if uncomfortable. Not necessarily an easy read, as there are several difficult, and even heartbreaking, things that occur. But ultimately, I think, a hopeful book.

I‘m so happy that, thanks to #AuthorAMonth , I have finally read my first book by Dorothy L. Sayers! This was a delightfully satisfying golden age mystery. I adored Lord Peter Wimsey and will definitely be reading more of this series.

My #5JoysFriday this week is all about the “this never happens here” snow & ice storm.
@DebinHawaii
Snow and icicles on Hilton Head Island, SC! This NEVER happens. Time for books and hot beverages all day long. ❄️❄️❄️
This little book is packed with so much wisdom! I started listening on audio, and quickly realized I needed a print copy, because I wanted to highlight passages, write in the margins, flip back and forth through the pages, and come back to again and again. A gem.
What a perfect choice for #LitSolace #MidwinterSolace , @AllDebooks !
#MonthlyNonfiction 200‘s - Religion
This was a sweet cozy mystery. It was fun to be part of the animals‘ woodland world, and the mystery kept me guessing. First in a series, and I will read more.
Like several other Littens, I chose this book as my January #ThematicCozies #Animal pick.
Thank you, @Chrissyreadit for sending this to me as a swap gift! 💙

Thanks for the tag, @DebinHawaii
If you‘re reading this, consider yourself tagged. Let‘s celebrate joys big and small! 🙂
@TheAromaofBooks !! What a delight to come home from out of town to find your SWEET #LittleChristmasSwap waiting for me. Sweet book, sweet candy, and sweet newsy note! Absolutely perfect. How fun that my book came all the way from England! 🇬🇧
This well-researched, nonfiction account of Alex Murdaugh‘s trial was riveting. The author chronicled the history of the Murdaugh family dynasty in the South Carolina Lowcountry - generations of power and privilege. Lots to discuss and think about here, besides the obvious issues raised by the trial itself.

#12Booksof2024 Day 12
My favorite book of December was The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year, which I read with #LittensLoveRomance . @StayCurious
Thanks for hosting, @Andrew65 ! This is such a fun tradition. 😃
Hello #MonthlyNonfiction2025 friends! Both @willaful and @TheAromaofBooks suggested that since there are 11 Dewey classifications, it might be fun to read one classification per month.
If anyone would like to do that, I have updated the StoryGraph challenge to include the Dewey classifications as Bonus prompts.
So you can track your monthly reading in the regular monthly prompts (#1-12) and your Dewey reading in Bonus prompts #13-23. ⬇️
This book was a delight! The main character is a strong, resourceful, good-hearted woman with a witty sense of humor. Although the novel is lighthearted, there are several difficult situations and moral dilemmas which are dealt with realistically. The characters all seemed real. This is not just a “fluffy” romance. It has substance. 5⭐️
#HappyFiction @TheAromaofBooks @mabell @Chrissyreadit (Yes, I FINALLY managed to read it! 🙄🤪😂)
#12Booksof2024 Day 11
My favorite book of November was The Collected Regrets of Clover, which I read with my IRL book club.
@Andrew65
Thinking of all my #HashtagBrigade friends today. Took a train ride through the rainforest on St. Kitts. SO much #VerdantVerdure. Just in case you were wondering, I didn't cry. Nor did I faint. 😂
Actually, I enjoyed every minute! As it turns out, #VerdantVerdure is truly quite beautiful! 🙂 @BarkingMadRead
#12Booksof2024 Day 10
My favorite book of October was The River We Remember, which I read with my IRL book club.
@Andrew65
#12Booksof2024 Day 9
My favorite book of September was The House is On Fire, which I read with my IRL book club.
@Andrew65
Only 5% of my 2024 reading was nonfiction. I need to up my game. I have decided to challenge myself to read at least one nonfiction book per month (preferably one I already own). Anyone want to join me?
We can post using the hashtag #MonthlyNonfiction2025.
There is also a StoryGraph challenge for those who like to use those: https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/05fd860d-5e9b-45d6-bdf4-28410ac...
All are welcome!
The first book I‘m tackling this year for the #AllergicToChunksters challenge is Anna Karenina. I‘m reading it for the #KareninaWinter buddy read, hosted by @TheBookHippie and @Librarybelle . I started it in December, and am woefully behind, but loving it.
What will everyone else be starting on? Tagging those who expressed interest, but all are welcome! 😃
We‘re ready to kick off our second year of #ReadOrDonate! Looking forward to clearing some space off my shelves and chipping away at #MountTBR . I‘ll be reading Little Fires Everywhere for January. I think I‘m the only person on the planet who hasn‘t yet read it. 🤪
Can‘t wait to see what everyone else has chosen to read. Tagging those who have expressed interest, but all are welcome. 😃
Looking forward to a year of great reading ahead with #FictionalTraveler! My January selection is Mrs. Adams in Winter. I‘m excited to see what everyone else has chosen!
Tagging those who have expressed interest, but all are welcome. 😃
I‘m excited to begin our year of #ThematicCozies with Shady Hollow as my January selection. A couple of you have already posted. 👍 What will everyone else be reading?

#12Booksof2024 Day 8
My favorite book of August was The Forty Elephants, which I read with #SundayBuddyRead .
@TheBookHippie @Andrew65
I was so excited to open this year-long daily read today, and find a picture of our beautiful Southern Live Oak! Living in the South Carolina Lowcountry, these majestic old trees are my daily companions. 💚
#Naturalitsy #LitSolace #MidwinterSolace @AllDebooks
#12Booksof2024 Day 7
My favorite book of July was The Marriage Portrait, which I read with my IRL book club.
@Andrew65
Happy almost-New-Year, #LitsyLove members! It‘s time to turn in our December #LitsyLoveBingo points to @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks , to be entered in the drawing for a “happy”. Each bingo line is worth 1 point, and a coverall is worth 10 points.
For 2025, #LitsyLoveBingo will be a sporadic, pop-up game, rather than a monthly one. So keep your eyes peeled! 👀😎
@TieDyeDude @Read4life
Okay Blitzers… we‘ve made it to the end of our year long #MonthlyMagazineBlitz ! How does everyone feel about their results?
Personally, I‘ve had some good months and some not-so-productive months (looking at you, October and December). But overall, my magazine piles are drastically reduced. Whoopee!
My takeaway: I just don‘t need to be bringing so much print into my house. I‘m not as interested in reading most of it as I used to be. ⬇️
#12Booksof2024 Day 6
My favorite book of June was The Women, which I read with my IRL book club.
@Andrew65
I am hosting 4 low-key challenges for 2025. Everyone welcome to join any or all of them. Very casual - feel free to dip in and out as your schedule allows. Choose your own book and use the hashtag when you post your review. All have companion challenges on StoryGraph, for those who find that useful. Links to the original posts and SG challenges are in the comments below.

This was my first graphic novel, and I found it fascinating. The graphic format made it easy to understand Haiti's very complicated, sad, and violent history. I will read more of this series.
#12Booksof2024 Day 5
My favorite book of May was Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, which I read with #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead and #ChildrensClassicRead2024 .
@Andrew65 @BarbaraJean @TheBookHippie
My January #BookSpin list. Excited to begin another year of reading fun! Thanks for hosting, @TheAromaofBooks !
My goals for the #OutWithTheOldInWithTheNew Readathon are:
1. Begin my three 2025 Year-long daily reads.
2. Finish at least two of the four books I‘m supposed to finish by the end of December. 😂
3. Begin reading the January books for #HashtagBrigade and #SundayBuddyRead .
Thanks for hosting, @Andrew65 ! Your Readathons always help me focus (and occasionally panic!) 😉
#12Booksof2024 Day 4
My favorite book of April was Daphne du Maurier‘s Rebecca, which I read with the #HashtagBrigade .
@Andrew65 @BarkingMadRead
#12Booksof2024 Day 3
My favorite book of March was Lion of Ireland, which I read for #BookedInTime
