Got this book back in 1996 and am finally giving it a re-read. I enjoyed it at 15, so let's see if it holds up after nearly 30 years and hundreds of books read.

My April (and May since I didn‘t read anything else) pick for #12Booksof2023. I honestly do enjoy this world and hope I continue to do so. I still think it‘s not the best fantasy I‘ve ever read, but I also don‘t think it deserves the hate it typically gets. 😅

Unpopular opinion: This book was actually good.
I started this book not knowing what to expect. About ten chapters in I stumbled across negative comments online about the author and his writing. So I continued on with that in mind, waiting to be let down. I can see where some things about the story may have rubbed people wrong, but overall I really can‘t see how it gets the hate it does.

I‘m giving this a low pick because I thought the violence was almost fetishized but I did care about the characters. This was a chunky boi so I feel a great amount of satisfaction having conquered it. I liked Richard and Kahlen but I feel like this ended in a place that I don‘t need to read on and see what other contrived troubles they‘d have to face.
Rolo and I are going to take a reading break because I survived my job interview and didn‘t immediately have panicky regrets about my answers.

Didn‘t manage to finish anything this week but I did start a chunky boi.
#WeeklyForecast
My goal for the week is to hit the 50% mark of the tagged. It‘s over 800 pages of tiny text so that‘s like reading a whole regular book.
Lol my face when I open the book and remember it‘s 800 pages with minuscule text and my reading glasses are in the other room.
I am still having a major block against starting Watership Down so instead of not reading until I can talk myself into opening it I‘m going to go to the next title on my #BookSpin backlog. I‘m really happy though because I am positively surrounded by reading buddies at the moment. Simon and Callie are watching me from the floor while the dog is in my lap and Sierra is in the window behind me.

Enjoyed getting into Wizard‘s First Rule while vacationing in Vegas
So I‘m not really a huge fan of fantasy, but this book absolutely blew me away! Legitly one of the best books I‘ve read this year. And yes, I know Goodkind was kind of an ass and is one of the most divisive authors in the fantasy genre, but speaking strictly for this book, he killed it. I ADORED this book. Will I read the sequels? Dunno. I‘ve heard they devolve into a mixture of Objectivist diatribes and bondage porn, so 🤷♂️. But this book is 🔥
What a lucky day! My coworker found these in the donation bin and put them on my desk since I'm the 'fantasy fan'! 😃 I love this copy of the tagged book because it has the original cover art! 😍 Also I've never heard of this urban fantasy series by Kelly Gay, but it looks good! Has anyone read it before?
So... don‘t ask what took so long but I finally read this little book. And now I can retire from reading. Thank you all, it‘s been real lol.

RIP Terry Goodkind, your work was my first taste of epic fantasy and I will be forever grateful. I‘ve read Wizards First Rule three times in my life and every time I finish it I‘m left emotionally spent. Your words will be missed.
When ever asked what is a good book I suggest Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind or Dhampir by Barb and JC Hendee

I was feeling kind of stalled out, trying to start a couple of new books and didn't make any progress, so I went back to an oldie but goodie. This series is very flawed, but also pretty good. It's one of my very favorite of all time, especially the first two books. It probably resonated with me more as a teenager than it would for someone just picking it up now as an adult. Epic fantasy, epic stakes, epic romance. Always a fav.
I read this book 20 years ago and it stood out for me and continues to stand out. I haven't read it in years. I love it now just as much as I did back then. It's a great fantasy adventure.
Ahhh, thank you to my #LitsyLove swap partner, @HufflepuffGirl90 , for my #winterswap package! I‘ve been wanting to read this book for AGES and I love the pens/notebook/bookmark. They are all beautiful ❤️
“Wizard‘s First Rule: people are stupid. People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything.”
I'm going to a wedding this evening and I'm super unhappy about it. My anxiety is in full swing today! I am so awkward around people I don't know and hate small talk! 😐 Am I the only one who ever feels this way at such events? At least I can use my cute bookish/kitty purse to smuggle in a couple books! Maybe no one will notice if I periodically sneak to the bathroom to read a few pages? 😎📚💕
Start to a long series and not everyone‘s cup of tea but this book encouraged me to look for more and more epic fantasy books
Darken Rahl. The name alone makes my eyes want to roll out of my head. Such a caricature of a villain.
I liked the book enough to finish it back in the day when it was new-ish, but not enough to continue the series. I understand that there is an evil chicken later on, who may be even more deserving of this shameful award, but I don't think I want to read through the following thirteen books to find him 🐔

#HumpDay I needed to do a book purchase to get me through the rest of this week. Went to my local second hand book store and got these. Never read either of them before.
Okay this is my third time trying this book alone. I always just got too busy. I‘m not a romance-y person, but I am interested in the world Terry Goodkind has created- so that‘s why I‘m trying again. 🙂
Chapter 41 on #Audible 😱😱😱 not nice! But totally captivating, a great piece of writing although it‘s abit gritty. #fantasy #epicgantasy
Back in the land of sand and back to work 🤦🏻♂️😞 daily commute is back on though so@plenty of listening time 😊 just need the temperature to drop abit! #fantasy #epicfantasy
Another trip done, heading back home. Love abit of traveling, always get lots of reading in. #fantasy #epicfantasy
22.45 finish, 03.30 start 🤦🏻♂️☹️😴 #work Another beautiful sunrise 🌅though 🤗 Cannot wait for the weekend. #fantasy #epicfantasy
New BBQ and garden furniture = new reading spot 👌🏻👍🏻 just need it to cool down abit now! #fantasy #epicfantasy
This is me all day. Kindle in hand. #hangovercure 👌🏻👍🏻 loving the new book, although it‘s a classic. For some reason I never made it past the first 5 chapters the last time I read it. Well past that now 😊 #fantasy #epicfantasy
Soooo ..... I can‘t explain why this has slipped through the net whilst I‘ve been trying to read every #epicfantasy in existence, but it has. Ridiculous I know but now I have something to keep me occupied waiting around at work and commuting 😊 so high five to me, from me 😏✋🏻 #fantasy #wizardsfirstrule another lovely sunrise in #Dubai

I don‘t read a lot of fantasy (although I read more of it than I probably realize) but I love Terry Goodkind‘s writing, esp this series. A college English prof recommended him years ago & I preordered his books as I did for the Harry Potter books. I appreciate his depth of characters & the development of the fantasy worlds he creates.
He draws on Ayn Rand‘s writing (hence the philosophical feel).
Hopping in the Way Back Machine for today‘s #crimesagainstcovers, which is about the worst place I‘ve rescued a book. Back in 2001, I spent six months working at a Barnes & Noble. Broke my heart when we‘d rip off the covers of paperbacks and toss the books in the trash. One night, I rescued several of the books. One of them was Wizard‘s First Rule. I didn‘t pay a single cent, & I still felt cheated out of my time by that terrible book. 🤮🤮🤮
After my temporary "I had to go get divorced" hiatus, I'm back on my book grind. Tackling this monster first because why not? #nowreading
I love this book. Terry Goodkind did a wonderful job with building a universe and characters that are engaging and fun to read.
