I enjoyed the tagged one beautiful cover as well as beautiful verses🥰
#covercrush
I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful story told in verse. Veda is a dancer regardless of her family‘s wishes otherwise and regardless of an accident that leaves her without a leg. The writing and story are very well done.

I can‘t believe that it‘s the end of Week 6. Looking forward to Round 3!
💃 This week I attended a couple extra Jazzercise classes and walked 37 km. My summer break has just started and it‘s been very hot and humid!
📖 I finished three books and they were all good! The titles are A Rising Man, A Time to Dance, and The Case of Lisandra P. - the first book read for Women in Translation month!

I picked this up as an ARC years ago and have not read it yet. But, it sounds like a fascinating book - a woman, who dances, suffers a tragic accident and must pick up the pieces of her life. #magicdance #septembowie
Veda is a competitive bharatanatyam dancer in India. But when she is in a bus accident, her right leg must be amputated below the knee. She struggles to reignite her passion for dance.
"My hands are lips.
My body is voice."
A beautiful read which definitely educated me in various subjects: Bharatanatyam dance, Indian dishes and some customs, and an idea of what it is like to be an amputee.
Very inspirational🌺
A story about a dancer told in verse. "Everywhere, in everything, I heard music. Music I could dance to." P32
Yup. I used to dance to my grandmother's dryer bc I thought it had a good beat. Lol Only on p40, but this is lovely?
A brilliant tale of tragedy and triumph, this novel shows how even after a mighty fall, any of us can rise up again. Veda's emotions drive the verse of this novel. Through her pain, sorrow, anger, and eventually peace, the story comes to life, drawing readers in. #diversebooks #disabilities #india #intersectionality #youngadult
I came across this passage and absolutely loved it. This conversation between protagonist Veda and her grandmother illustrates how many people feel after tragedy strikes and how they can use those feelings to help them overcome tragic circumstances. #quote #diversebooks #disabilities #india #youngadult
I love how books are all different and beautiful in their own way!! #rainbowstack #bookriot
A Time to Dance is one of the most beautifully written novels I've ever read. Had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with the author at this year's James River Writers Conference. I was thrilled to discover she's just as beautiful and brilliant as her writing. Can't recommend this novel enough. This was one of the many books I added to my collection this past month. #ATimeToDance #PadmaVenkatraman #YALit #youngadult #verse
Timely find, given my dad just had an amputation of the right leg. Not that he was a dancer, but my daughter loves to dance, as well as do gymnastics, and some day this story may help her understand all the hard work her grandpa is doing right now.
Beautiful story, not just about re-learning dance with a prosthesis, but a deeply spiritual journey of coming of age.
Eh. I didn't hate it or anything, but for a verse novel to grab me it has to elicit some strong emotion. This one was predictable and kind of boring. I liked reading about the elements of Veda's vibrant Indian culture, but I think it's going to be difficult to get my students to read this.
She is a pebble skipping
over the surface of a lake.
As I once was.
Not a deep sinking stone that leaves widening ripples behind
after it's disappeared.
As I hope to be.
An inspiring quick read. Well written and you can see the scenes clearly in your head.
