A cute royal romance - completely ridiculous but loveable. On Prime.

It's a nice historical fiction about the young Catherine The Great when she's not empress yet.
The story is told by a fictional character, Varvara Nikolaevna, that works like a spy in the Russian Court.
In the pictures: italian book cover, the young Catherine, Empress Elisaveta Petrovna

I really hope to have something to do at work today!
I love to read, but it's actually too weird doing it at work ><

Sunday afternoon starter pack!
I don't regret anything 🤟

Time to start this. I‘m in the mood for a good historical novel.
#bookmail. @Crazeedi thank you so much! What a surprise! I am being overwhelmed with #LitsyLove.
Varvara becomes a maid to the future Catherine the Great, where she‘s spotted and trained up as a ‘tongue‘, a spy, to report back any conversations, rumours or other goings-on within the household. I didn‘t get through the book, but haven‘t totally ruled out going back to finish it at some point. #rumourhasit #anglophileapril
It‘s tough to see all the stuff in here with the snowflakes everywhere, sorry about that. Have you read or watched any of these titles in my #Winter Display?

Clearing the decks before the New Year, and I‘m afraid I‘m bailing on this one. Nothing particularly wrong with it - just not holding my interest, and there are a squillion new books I‘d like to move onto. I wouldn‘t totally rule out coming back to it at a later date.
a perfect night to start a new book 📖
Following the death of her parents, Varvara is brought to the court of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna, where she‘s noticed and selected to work as a ‘tongue‘, a spy. Her role? To #freezeframe conversations, notes, looks, affections and relay them back to the empress and her chancellor.
I‘ve just started this for #readaroundtheworld #russia, and even though I feel quite remote from Varvara, I‘m enjoying the story. #winterwonderland
#AugustIsATrip - Set in Russia

Two really good books that I read and enjoyed that are set in Russia.
I haven‘t read the sequel yet to the Bear and the Nightingale, but it‘s on my TBR!
Spurts have finally grown into a hook for me, I think? Enjoying it now.
I am definitely reading the sequel. And this book has given me an appetite to know more about this queen.
My goal this year is to read more historical fictions set in different locations and time periods. Book 2 of the year was a success!
This book was good. I‘m not sure how accurate it is, since I don‘t know too much of Russian History. This book is told from a spies point of a view. She is a spy for Empress Elizabeth and Grand Duchess Catherine spread over 20 years. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

A fitting read for this blustery snowy day. We are supposed to get 8-12 inches of snow and wind gusts over 50mph. Works and schools closed, but not for me! The only time working from home has it‘s downfalls! I‘ll still read anyways! 😊
Told from the perpective of an orphan living in the palace, this story was a light historical fiction about Catherine the Great's start in Russia. Easy read.
Naughty, naughty me.
I got all these treasures today for Qb.

I had more on my digital shelves than I thought! All of these are recommended. Tagged below for blurbs.
A little candlelight and cider for a cozy night in with some famous Russians!! Already loving the independent and clever ladies in this book and looking forward to discovering how they deal with the men trying to rule them!
I can not stop listening! The story of Catherine the great through the eyes of a. spy girl is mesmerizing. the only defect is the weird Eastern European accent affected by the narrator which is distracting
Not a bad read but it was harder for me to stay engaged with this one. Interesting look into Russian court life.

I love novels about Russian royalty. However, I firmly believe that the true stories of the czars and empresses are significantly more fascinating than the fictionalized accounts.
It's possible that my "currently reading" pile has gotten a bit out of hand.
