While I didn‘t love this one quite as much as the first, I still really enjoyed it. A little (or a lot) dark at times but very compelling and you don‘t want to put it down. Loving all of the books with strong female leads #bookspin #seriesread

Overall Rating 4½⭐ | Narration 😁 = Very Good
I loved this addition to the series...a bit more than I did the first book, even. I loved Beast, loved the romance, and loved Sybella and Beast together. This series is perfect for someone who likes a little romance in their books but doesn‘t like them bogged down with too much mushy-love stuff. I also loved Angela Goethals‘s narration...she was perfect.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was concerned that “Dark Triumph” wouldn‘t be as good as its predecessor, but I shouldn‘t have worried. This book was just as intriguing, action-packed, fast-paced, and swoon-worthy as “Grave Mercy”. I also got some mild Beauty and the Beast vibes, which also happens to be one of my favorite tropes and retellings. I‘m definitely loving this series and cannot wait to read the final book in the series.

I absolutely love this series! Book Two in His Dark Assassins combines a dark atmosphere with a hint of romance and redemption. Sybella returns home to carry out an assignment, but mislaid plans lead her to follow a different path. She‘s a handmaiden to Death, a trained assassin who uses Death‘s mark to guide her to slaying those who are dangerous.

Whoops! I may have read this incredibly long book in less than 48 hours. This is the 2nd of the His Fair Assassins series, and it focuses on Sybella, rather than Ismae. I love how the author fit this together in the story we‘re already familiar with. And bonus: there‘s more Beast!

Every bit as good as (maybe even better than) the first book in the series, this second installment was full of action and nearly impossible to stop listening to. I loved learning Sybella‘s backstory, and she couldn‘t be much more different from Ismae. Strong writing and a compelling plot. This is definitely the best fantasy series I have read in a while, and I‘m looking forward to reading book 3 very soon.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Laughterhp Love this series! Well at least the first 2. I haven‘t read the 3rd yet. 5y

AlaMich I read Dark Triumph last month and now cannot wait for the next one. Did you read the trilogy that came before? It was equally great! 😊 5y
sprainedbrain @AlaMich no?! There‘s a trilogy that came before? I will have to check that out. I read the first one in the series recently and just had to continue. Love them! 5y
AlaMich @sprainedbrain oh yeah! You‘re in for a treat! In fact, reading the trilogy will give you a ton of backstory to Dark Triumph. The first book is 5y

AlaMich Wait, I see that you read Grave Mercy! 5y
sprainedbrain @AlaMich yes, loved Grave Mercy. 😃 5y
AlaMich @sprainedbrain 🤦🏻‍♀️ Disregard everything I said! I got your book mixed up with the first book of her new series. Never mind.... 5y
sprainedbrain @AlaMich well this is still good news. There is a another trilogy coming after I finish this one?? 5y
AlaMich @sprainedbrain There‘s the His Fair Assassins trilogy, of which you‘re currently reading the second book, and then LaFevers is writing a duology. The first book of that is Courting Darkness, which I just finished. The second book probably won‘t be published for awhile. The duology picks up exactly where the trilogy leaves off. (edited) 5y

This book was so much like Grave Mercy (duh same characters and author). I loved it even more than I loved Grave Mercy. This one was much easier for me to follow and connect with. My favorite thing about these books are how flawed and raw each character is. It shows how real it is.
One thing I did have to complain about was that sometimes the author would tell me things rather than show me, especially when it came to inner dialogue.

Could I possibly be more obsessed with this series?

I swear the second one was better than the first.

Daughter of death trained as assassins ✔️
A “beast” of a man who saves the good people ✔️
A relationship that develops over the love of killing the bad guys ✔️
Poison ✔️

🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

AlaMich Aren‘t they the best?! She has to hurry up and write the sequel to Courting Darkness before I wither away from anticipation!! 5y
Ashley_Nicoletto @AlaMich They are amazing. I very rarely just devour an entire series and I‘ve already checked the third book out from the library. 5y
sprainedbrain Ooooh this series looks intriguing. Is it overly YA, though? (If that makes any sense...) 5y
Ashley_Nicoletto @sprainedbrain No, I‘m not even really sure it deserves a YA classification. It takes place in like an old French society so people are younger when they marry etc. But it has mostly adult concepts. I didn‘t know it was YA and then this weekend I saw it on the YA shelf at B&N and was shocked. 5y
sprainedbrain @Ashley_Nicoletto Thanks! I‘m going to check it out. 5y

I was rereading this for the #24in48 readathon and I really enjoyed it. Even though I enjoyed the first book, this one improves on some of Grave Mercy‘s faults. The writing and plotting are better. The characters are still interesting and compel me to keep reading! I enjoyed the audiobook and can‘t wait to read book three.
My total for 24in48 came out to 17 hours!

Because it‘s hard for me to leave a series behind, I read book 2 in the “His Fair Assassin” series. Truthfully, I liked this more. Each book follows one of the three girls introduced in the first book (acolytes of St. Mortain). Sybella is such a feral character; I wanted to know her back-story. It is intense. I will read the 3rd book at some point. I‘ve been distracted by others.

Confession dear #Littens. I needed a break from the crazy of #GOT. As someone warned me, I would be very tempted to throw the book. So this gem was my pallette cleanser. A #YA story, though rather dark and moody. Being me, I am not surprised I loved it. ❤️📚🐛

Book II of His Fair Assassin series. I did not realize initially that these are also basically YA romance, a genre I don't usually read (not that there's anything wrong with that!!) but by the time I figured it out I was in pretty deep.

This sequel was almost better than the first book! I related Sybella more than Ismae. She is a beautifully hurt and flawed character. Also, this book deals with physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, and may be a trigger for some. I found the way these issues were dealt with to be empowering. It holds strong positive message for anyone who has dealt with abuse by blaming themselves. And of course the romance was beautiful. Also, Beast! ❤️

moranadatter Wonderful! This series is on my TBR. 8y

The second book in the #hisfairassassin series is indeed dark, as the title implies. Sybella, the second of Death's handmaidens, is hardened because of abuses she has suffered, and many parts of her story are difficult to read. Ultimately, though, she does triumph over the demons in her past, literal and figurative. 4 dark, brooding stars.
