“Nipple nipple, little mouse, who is nibbling at my house”
Again I won‘t use a brothers Grimm book in the classroom even with other child because they are very dark book. However there are kid friendly versions of this story out there but the story is still pretty dark.
this book was very interesting and I really enjoyed it. I got this one from the library and it wasn't quite what I thought it was. It is different than the copy I have at home as it's more kid friendly. however I still don't know if I would have it in my classroom

My first adult reread of this well known fairy tale classic. I was surprised how short it was and how straightforward the storytelling was. Overall I was more than happy to dip into this book and read some childhood favorites.
#childrensclassicread2023 Even having read a Brothers Grim version before, I hadn‘t read quite the same version as I did this time which has to be one of the coolest things about rereading these old stories. I looked at a bit of the commentary & learned new things about the famine & cannibalism (major ick!) & also that the mother became the stepmother sometime between the 1st & 4th editions (so I guess societal expectations haven‘t changed much)
I‘m reading this version from Amazon. It was $0.99, but I got it free with my points! I think this version will be interesting. It has both the 1st & 7th Editions. ( Read the copyright section. It‘s interesting and gives the name of all 7 editions).

#childrensclassic2023 buddy read, hosted by @thebookhippie is Hansel and Greta‘s. Everyone welcome.
I detest this one for two reasons. It reminds me of all children neglected and abandoned, especially the ones I know personally. This story is much too real. And, how my parents would use this story to manipulate me and my brother to behave. There was a witch who lived close by to us so I knew one day I'd be eaten because I was not a well behaved child.
The next step on my journey to learning French is to read books in French, and I actually feel like I can learn the most while doing it this way. I found this in my local used bookstore for $1, which was very well spent! I read this today and learned lots of new words. Such a great story. 5⭐️

One of the all time darkest and creepiest fairy tales IMO, but #Candy is certainly featured heavily! #Scarathlon #TeamStoker #ChillingPhotoChallenge @TheReadingMermaid @Clwojick
“Even when they're brought into the woods again, Hansel says, ''Do not cry, Gretel, go to sleep quietly, the good God will help us.''
I ran out of room in the other section but I think that children would really like this story even though it's actually pretty dark! I think the authors do a good job of making it more palatable and giving a good cautionary tale. They help show kids that not everything is black and white and you can't trust everybody. I really like this story and I think it's a classroom classic.
This traditional classic tells the story of a brother and sister who were abandoned in the woods by their family because they couldn't afford to feed them. Eventually they stumble upon an ornate gingerbread house made of real sweets. The owner of the house is a seemingly sweet woman with her true intentions being more bitter than sweet. She tries to eat the children but in the end the children win. I really like this story!
#ANewChapter Day 16: This #Retelling of Hansel & Gretel is the most haunting of all versions I have read. The sense of dejection, the dismal atmosphere are clearly evident. The framing is also well worth noting with the stepmother sitting farther away, but also seeming to usurp the father‘s role as the head of the family. What is constant is the defeated air of the Father and the two children. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-bkW
Y'all....I think this is so cool! Please don't let "telenovela" scare you away.

I love looking and seeing what reimagined fairy tales are out there. Today I discovered Hector and Greta which is a retelling of Hansel and Gretel. I need to get it. #coolbooks #fairytails #coolbooksfairytale #riotgrams #candy #sweettreats
A traditionally written fairytale with so much to find in every picture.
My 2nd gingerbread kit ever! So much fun! I like it the candy while I'm making it but once it hardens I do NOT want it! 😂
This is how we felt about good ol' dad consenting to ditch his kids.

Why the House is Made of Gingerbread by Ana Leavell Haymon (not on Litsy database) is one of my favorite retellings. It's a retelling of Hansel and Gretel told from the point of view of a middle aged Gretel. Oh, it's poetry-- for those of you who love or hate poetry.

No witch to bake/shove in the oven, but I did manage to bake a Black Bottom Oatmeal pie for today.
