Killing Joke (Deluxe)
Killing Joke (Deluxe) | Alan Moore
A "NEW YORK TIMES" BESTSELLER Presented for the first time with stark, stunning new coloring by Bolland, BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE is Alan Moore's unforgettable meditation on the razor-thin line between sanity and insanity, heroism and villainy, comedy and tragedy. According to the grinning engine of madness and mayhem known as The Joker, that's all that separates the sane from the psychotic. Freed once again from the confines of Arkham Asylum, he's out to prove his deranged point. And he s going to use Gotham City's top cop, Commissioner Jim Gordon, and his brilliant and beautiful daughter Barbara to do it. Now Batman must race to stop his archnemesis before his reign of terror claims two of the Dark Knight's closest friends. Can he finally put an end to the cycle of bloodlust and lunacy that links these two iconic foes before it leads to its fatal conclusion? And as the horrifying origin of the Clown Prince of Crime is finally revealed, will the thin line that separates Batman's nobility and The Joker's insanity snap once and for all? Legendary writer Alan Moore redefined the super-hero with WATCHMEN and V FOR VENDETTA. In BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE, he takes on the origin of comics' greatest super-villain, The Joker and changes Batman's world forever. Stunningly illustrated, BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE, THE DELUXE EDITION has been lushly re-colored by artist Brian Bolland, presenting his original vision of this modern classic for the first time."

What can one say but Alan Moore has an incredible gift for storytelling? And Brian Bolland is one of my Top 5 Batman illustrators. This story shows — like no other Batman story — how the Joker and the Batman are two sides of the same coin. Tragedy struck them both but their madness took them different routes — one the road of the madman villain and the other the path of the obsessive vigilante.

Awk_Word_Smith I'm not blind to the controversy over this particular Batman story, and others are free to debate whether the story needed some of the more graphic scenes, but for me this is a wonderful mirror put up to the Batman mythos. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 2y

Let‘s do a Alan-Moore-Frank-Miller/Batman Double with “The Killing Joke” and “The Dark Knight Returns”.

vivastory The Killing Joke is easily one of my fave graphic novels. So innovative. 2y
Awk_Word_Smith @vivastory I have lost count of how many times I‘ve read it. I had a copy in high school like 30 years ago, but my parents sold my comics when I went to college. 😔 2y

Must read for Batman/Joker fans. Moore pretty much creates the Joker origin story here, although the end of this story, which I find fascinating, has not found its way into any of the movies (at least I don‘t think so). That is a shame. https://cannonballread.com/2022/10/batman-the-killing-joke-elcicco/

This was a very short but enjoyable read. 🦇

The artwork is stunnjng and the story line (which is a Joker origin story) makes you unable to put it down because it's fast paced and a lot happens in those 64 pages.

I chose this for a easy read as my other half is in labor and we're just waiting in the ward, they think he'll make an entrance tonight! ❤

Enchanted_Bibliophile Congrats 🎉. This is one of my favourite Joker origin stories. 3y

...well that was creepy. This was the start of my graphic novel fix as it‘s highly recommended in all graphic novel lists. Graphic is certainly the word! I did respect the theme that insanity is an escape from the horrors of reality and turning rationality on its head. Sad origin story of course. The ending is so ambiguous though.

I kinda took a break from reading the last 2 weeks of October and indulged in a bit of gaming.
(I'm almost done with Assassin's Creed Odyssey; again)

November I'm gonna try and push my reading again.

This is such a perfect origin story for the Joker.

I just loved everything about it. The story and obviously the characters. O, and the art is exquisite. I couldn't get enough of the flamboyant style and vibrant colours.

Definitely a favourite!

Read this classic comic this evening both inspired by watching Joker last night and #stillbuffering and their latest podcast. I read comics in this style so infrequently. I thought it was well written and I will need to read it again to ponder it more.

I‘ve been on a bit of a graphic novel kick lately so when my boyfriend picked this up over the weekend and told me how great it is I had to read it.
I didn‘t expect to love it as much as I did but it was SO GOOD!
Alan Moore created a great origin story for the Joker and the artwork was phenomenal. It was interesting getting a glimpse into Jokers past but considering how crazy he is, it left me wondering if that was truly what happened.

I honestly didn't think the would ever share the story of how The Joker became so mad.... didn't expect it, but thoroughly it. ❤️ The story was quick, and to the point. In just 46 pages, "The Killing Joke" packs a goddamn wallop. The only disappointing thing is that Babs is basically nothing more than a prop; the animated film gives her a little more of a presence, but still. (Though it is, at heart, a story about Batman and the Joker, I'm a Babs girl through and through, and always want more.) Definitely worth the read. #batman #thekillingjoke #dccomics

This was not an easy call to make. It did, however, come down to two CLOWNS. End the end, I hold a biased opinion. You've never seen Batman and me in the same room at the same time. So this time, Pennywise loses to the Joker.

It's like he's taking a picture of your soul, isn't it?

I've only recently gotten into graphic novels and started exploring the superhero world so this perspective may be a bit naive. I went into it expecting a cartoon of spooky cliche with some good vs evil. Sure, it was a bit good vs evil but I love that it explored WHY is there even a battle. Batman was quick to self evaluate and I loved that about this Bat tale.

Alan Moore's brilliant writing in this story takes Batman to the very edge of becoming who he swears not to be. His "relationship" with the Joker is detailed in a manner that changes how the two perceive each other and how the reader perceives them. A truly great graphic novel.
