Four Dead Queens
Four Dead Queens | Astrid Scholte
Seventeen-year-old Keralie Corrington may seem harmless, but shes, in fact, one of Quadaras most skilled thieves and a liar. Varin, on the other hand, is an honest, upstanding citizen of Quadaras most enlightened region, Eonia. He runs afoul of Keralie when she steals a package from him, putting his life in danger. When Varin attempts to retrieve the package, he and Keralie both find themselves entangled in a conspiracy that leaves all four of Quadaras queens dead. With no other choices and on the run from Keralies former employer, the two decide to join forces, endeavoring to discover who has killed the queens and save their own lives in the process. When their reluctant partnership blooms into a tenuous romance, they must overcome their own dark secrets in hopes of a future together that seemed impossible just days before. But first they have to stay alive and untangle the secrets behind the nations four dead queens. An enthralling fast-paced murder mystery where competing agendas collide with deadly consequences, Four Dead Queens heralds the arrival of an exciting new YA talent.

The world-building in this book is fantastic. There are some unforeseen twists (I didn‘t guess them ahead of time - perfect!) and a satisfying ending. I will be looking for more from this author!

This one was a little hard to get into, with there being a lot of information and lore thrown at you in the beginning, but once I finally got into the world, it was a lot of fun. A fantasy murder mystery that kept me guessing all the way through. I was a little worried I would be able to predict everything that was going to happen, but was pleasantly surprised when all my theories were proven wrong. Overall, 10/10, would recommend.

Pretty good story. The relationships seems to happen a bit too quickly, but over all a decent story with an interesting world that got wrapped up nicely at the end. Fairly easy and quick read as well.

I thought that this book was really interesting. It was interesting to see who the assassin is and it comes back to the main characters. #fourdeadqueens

I liked this book but wish it focused on the fantasy aspects more (ie world building and political intrigue) and less on the murder mystery plot. Also the romance felt very insta lovey and I wasn‘t a fan of that. I guess you could say I wasn‘t a fan of the plots focused on Keralie which is a shame since she is the main character.

My last completed #read of August. I loved it! I'm usually pretty good at predicting the killer in mysteries, but I didn't guess this one. The book was filled with a few good twists. I enjoyed the main character, Kera's, character development. The imagery and descriptions were so vivid. It would make a great movie.

I liked it. I didn‘t see all the twists coming but that‘s ok. I thought it was interesting getting all the perspectives of the queens and solving who the killer was. Wasn‘t who I thought it would be. Spoiler in comments

BookishGirl06 Really didn‘t expect the killer to be Keralie. 3mo

Hmm. Could Keralie be Marguerite‘s daughter? 🤔 (don‘t tell me if she is. Haven‘t finished it yet )

I almost didn't read this and that would have been a shame. It just kept getting better. The story is very easy to get lost in, just keep reading and you'll feel like you're there. 5 stars are rare from me. It started as a 3, quickly to 4 then 5. Every aspect was intact from writing to flow, world building to character development. Highly recommend!

Quite enjoyed this stand alone tale. It had elements of Six of Crows to it and some other wonderful YA books I have liked. The world was quite interesting although I wanted more depth to the history. Plus I would have loved to have explored the two other quadrants. Really great concept!

I was pleasantly surprised by the story structure - we see the aftermath of the murders as well as the queens while they're still alive. There were several times I thought I knew the twist but was still surprised the 2nd half was wholly unexpected. However, the Keralie/Varin chapters were my least favorite, which is about 50% of the book. I found the supporting characters much more interesting overall, who move in and out as POVs.

Caffeinated_Reader Oh I did not think I would love this book as much as I do. The story was extremely well told and unraveled at a quick pace without making the story feel hurried or unfinished. The ending was a bit drawn out lol but it was funny to see all the finger pointing and the shock and awe of it all. I thought I knew “who done it” but dang...I was pleasantly surprised. 8mo

This book sounded amazing and it was a pick for a club read on #bookbattle on Facebook so I figured why not. I don't know if I'm fantasy-ed out but I couldn't get into this book but the ending was worth it. That's what pushed me over into the pick category. Sometimes if I am forced 😂 to read a book it's harder for me to get into so I am going to recommend it because I think in a few months I'll reread it and if Im willing to read it twice 🤷

The writing is very basic, but as its a debut novel that will probably evolve with subsequent books but overall was a good solid story. Great read for younger YA readers.

This book was the perfect blend of scifi and fantasy for me. So glad that I witnessed all of the hype and chose to pick it up sooner rather than later. Although the main character made me grit my teeth at times, the boom boasted a couple of twists that I really didn't see coming - and that's pretty awesome. 4 🌟s.

Finished this one this morning. I have heard people mention they either liked it or couldn't get into it. I though it was a good YA. It was a quick and easy read. I wouldn't say it was a deep read. But there was a twist at the end I didn't see coming. I enjoyed reading this one.

This book was a total blame it on Litsy and Twitter. I had been hearing great things about this book that I had to check it out. I was hooked from the very 1st page and didn't want to put it down. I wanted to know who was killing all the queens and why! I can't wait to see what this author writes next! This was my second book completed in the #24b4monday readathon. Not going to get the whole 24 hours but going to try and get 12 hours!

Cailey_Mac Oooo you‘re making me excited to read this! 👏🏼 8mo
