Callie was awesome main character: she wanted to do things that society didn't allow her to do. Rebellious characters are delightful! Ralston had a heart in the right place and I liked how he treated Callie.
This was really solid story but when you guess every twist beforehand it doesn't feel that intriguing.
For me this wasn't that special but there were so many positive things that I can't say this was bad.

#LittensLoveRomance October book discussion Hi guys! Thanks so much for reading with me this month. Here are a few discussion questions get things started- I love seeing what you guys think! Feel free to add your own as well.
I'm so glad this was our #littensloveromance book this month! I don't typically read historical romances so I wouldn't have picked it up otherwise. I really enjoyed these characters and will definitely read the rest of the series and probably more from this author.
Thanks @StayCurious for hosting 😊
#AutumnAtoZ S @Texreader #AutumnBingo2022 title contains a number @Ann_Reads
Historical romance isn‘t really my thing so I don‘t have a lot to compare this with. I liked the feisty heroine a lot but I wasn‘t really sold on the hero - some of his behaviour felt a bit too close to exploitation. A fun read overall. Thanks to @StayCurious and the #LitsyLovesRomance group.
#LittensLoveRomance I finished the last couple chapters in one sitting because I couldn‘t stop! The heartbreak scene and impending dual was so full of emotion I had to see what happened. The end was so satisfying and I was left feeling happy with the book on a whole. Sarah Maclean writes excellent characters. I can‘t wait to continue this series and read her newer books as well. Thank you to those who read along with me - discussion on Sunday.
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.22. Third time‘s the charm right? Or is it fourth? Anyway, Ralston proposes to Callie in a truly vulnerable moment and she finally says yes. But I sense more trouble will come on the horizon. Ralston is thinking - never a good thing haha. And what about Oxford? I bet he‘s not out of the picture just yet. I think I will finish the book today to really get my HEA.
A great historical romance with an even greater leading lady… fun, steamy and full of heart!
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.21: I‘m sad for Callie. The repulsive Oxford tries to announce they‘re getting married and comes close to compromising her. Then Ralston tries to get her to agree to marry him again -and Callie finally breaks down and tells him she loves him, and that‘s why she can‘t marry him. She will not settle and she knows he does not love her back. Or does he? Ralston definitely has feelings - he just has to dig deep and let them out.
If it hadn‘t been for #littensloveromance, I admit I wouldn‘t have picked this one up, as I don‘t read a lot of historical romance. But I‘m so glad it was this month‘s pick…I enjoyed it so much! A likable MC with some moxie, a bad boy, and a bucket list of sorts made for an entertaining read!

So good! Reminded me of why I like historicals! It was everything you could ask for. #scarathon #littensloveromance #teammonstermash
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.20: Ralston goes to sulk at his club and brood over the fact Callie turned down his proposal (twice) - while there he gets upset with Oxford and doubles his bet that Callie won‘t have Oxford. Maybe not the smartest thing to do when she‘s so upset with Ralston…Callie goes to get her dress and comes face to face with the ex…awkward conversation ensues but also enlightening for Callie.
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.19: Callie is rightfully pissed at Ralston and his guilt-laden proposal. When he shows up the next morning and announces that they are in fact getting married-and she turns him down again-he claims this isn‘t over. She laid it out for him and put her heart on the line - she will not marry a man who will resent and regret their marriage. Poor Callie- she loves him so much. Ralston just needs to realize he has feelings too!
This reminded me of Rose from "Titanic" - just saying.
Wallflower decides that she can do all the things men are allowed to do, because she's so high on the shelf it won't ruin her reputation.
The rake she's had a crush on for over a decade helps her. He will not fall for her, because of family reasons.
Cue the usual misunderstandings and miscommunications that end in a HEA.
Low pick.

#LittensLoveromance Ch.18: First…🔥🔥❤️ But then Ralston starts thinking. And thinking leads to regrets. And a hasty gentlemanly marriage proposal. Which sours Callie‘s post glow a bit, unfortunately. She clearly loves him but wants his love in return. She does not want to be his obligatory wife. Poor Callie. What‘s a girl to do? I‘d play hard to get for awhile. She always falls into his arms. Maybe it‘s about time to flip the script a bit.
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.17: Callie goes on her next adventure escorted by a reluctant Ralston. She dresses like a man once more, goes to a men‘s club, and in a private room, gets to play cards with Ralston. During their game they ask each other questions and Callie reflects on what it would be like to be a courtesan. I like how they‘re really letting their barriers down around each other and growing closer, although both should protect their hearts
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.16: Callie goes to the art gallery with the pervy Baron Oxford - she‘d better be careful with that one. Ralston steals her away and manages to apologize, kiss her senseless, and get roped into taking her gambling at his men‘s only club. Look who is losing control around Callie now? His feelings are starting to show - he‘d better watch himself, haha. She‘ll have him wrapped around her finger without even trying.
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.15: A lot of emotions in this chapter! Callie overhears Ralston say that she‘s plain (he didn‘t mean it!); Ralston tries to prove that Callie wants him(& succeeds)and Callie realizes her feelings are all one sided(or are they?) Ralston and his sister get closer and Ralston realizes he needs to apologize to Callie. Whew! Will Callie realize she deserves better? Will Ralston realize he‘s falling for her or will he let her go?
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.14: Ralston blackmailed Callie into agreeing not to go about her list without him there to chaperone - but then he totally ignores her for a week! Callie has all the feelings and it seems as though he has none. She refuses to seek him out and give him the satisfaction but during Juliana‘s dance lesson, he shows up. Family drama ensues and brother and sister are mad at each other. Callie needs to step in to help-doesn‘t she?
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.12-13: I‘m back after an exhausting weekend of cooking for a party(thank god it‘s over and I can read again!) Now, where were we?Callie, still smarting from her heated encounter with Ralston, decides to tackle the next thing on her list: fencing. With the aid of her maid and sister, who promises to keep her secret, she dresses like a man and sets off! Naturally, she runs into Ralston who guesses her identity. And well…🔥🔥🔥
I sat outside in my egg chair to read today‘s chapter, and next thing I knew, I was done! Could not put it down! #littensloveromance #scarathlon2022 #notathemeread #autumnbingo #numberintitle @Ann_Reads #autumnatoz N @Texreader
Read this one for #Littensloveromance book club. I enjoyed the story and liked how the main characters (Callie and Rolston) affected each other. They both become better people and grew as a result. It was a case of together they were more than when separate. 3.5 to 4ish ⭐️

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.11: Ralston has it out with his ex mistress - a sultry opera singer who was certain he‘d return to her. When he refuses she realizes he may be taken with plain Callie and scoffs. She also points out that just because Ralston doesn‘t love Callie doesn‘t mean that Callie isn‘t falling for him. Nothing can scare a rake more!
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.10:What an intense chapter! ⬆️jealousy & emotions flying btw Callie & Ralston at Juliana‘s debut. It‘s at the opera and the lead singer just so happens to be Ralston‘s ex mistress, although Callie thinks she‘s not an ex but a current. And Baron Oxford shows his face in all its toothy glory and pisses Ralston off. C&R fight (and kiss) and Ralston calls Callie a coward-which I‘m sure is going to push her to do something rash.
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.9: Callie and her sister take Juliana shopping and spend tons of Ralston‘s money. But he asked for it 😛 Callie realizes that the toothy Baron Oxford is pursuing her but can‘t understand why. And Juliana meets a handsome duke of her own. Hmmm, I wonder if they‘ll get their own book? Spoiler alert - they do. I love seeing foreshadowing of future couples in romances.
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.8: Callie gets caught by her brother coming home from her adventure out - luckily Benny seems like a very decent guy. I love the relationship the two have with each other. He gives her a cheroot! And gently puts his foot down. But is Callie likely to listen? I think not - she has a taste for adventure now.
“The adventure is well worth the disappointing experience.”
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.7: Callie goes to a tavern for her next adventure and orders a Scotch (yuck! But my hubby loves it). Ralston is there waiting for her and tells her to stop her shenanigans - she‘s putting her reputation at risk, which extends to his sister. Callie doesn‘t really agree but heads home, in his carriage, and things get spicy as Ralston proves to Callie you can be attracted to someone and not love them. Is that on her list?
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.6: Finally found few moments to read btw family birthdays (son, husband, cousin) & Thanksgiving celebrations! At her sister‘s ball, Callie is feeling sad and spinster-ish, until Ralston arrives and dances with her. She gathers her courage and asks him for information to help her complete something else on her list. He gives her the name of a tavern, but certainly isn‘t going to leave it at that. The 🔥 btw these two is ⬆️!
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.4-5: it was my son‘s 1st b-day yesterday so I missed a post! Callie meets Juliana and they form a fast friendship-though Juliana suspects there is more to Callie‘s being there than goodwill. Can Callie hide her feelings for Gabriel and hide the truth of her agreement to help him? Then we see that Gabriel himself was not unaffected by their kiss. He can‘t stop thinking about her! Can‘t wait to see how he handles that.
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.3: Callie does something without fully thinking of the consequences-she goes to Ralston‘s house in the dead of night to ask him for a kiss and cross that item off her list. Gabriel is shocked to see the meek Calpurnia in his bedroom of all places, but then realizes that she‘s the answer to his problem. She can introduce his sister to society. And he‘ll owe her a favour and give her a kiss. Oh, and what a kiss it is!
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.2: Callie is a spinster at 28 - she was ok with that when she didn‘t think too hard about it. She has a good family and they aren‘t forcing her to marry. But then her lovely little sister gets engaged and suddenly people can‘t seem to help themselves in comparing the two. And Callie starts to wish for more. If she could, she‘d be a man and get away with everything her brother does! Hmm-Why shouldn‘t she? This could go badly…
#LittensLoveRomance Ch.1: it‘s ten years later and we get to know more about Gabriel - Marquess of Ralston. He has a twin, shorted out of the title by 4 minutes - but Nick doesn‘t seem too bothered by this fact. And they have an illegitimate sister who was also abandoned by their mother. The scandal this could cause - unless they find someone with a perfect reputation to introduce her into society. I like where this is going.
#LittensLoveRomance Prologue: we meet 17 year old debutante Callie, who is having no luck in her first season out in society. Callie escapes a particularly embarrassing ball and goes to the garden (a dangerous place to be) and is found by the infamous rake the Marquess of Ralston. He is sweet to her and talks her up, and at first she is smitten, until she realizes he is only there for his own rendezvous, and she was just in his way.

#LittensLoveRomance It was a tight race as usual, but our October Read has been selected! I personally love Sarah MacLean and this is one of her first novels. Hopefully that makes it easy to get from your libraries. I‘ll post a reading schedule closer to the end of the month for those who want to follow along. Thanks to all who voted!
I avoided MacLean‘s debut because of its ridiculous title. Having read all of her other series, it‘s clear this is her debut. It‘s not dreadful, but it‘s not my favorite by any means. There are awkward phrases and it‘s lighter on plot that any of her other books, but it has glimpses of the elements I love about her work. It‘s not Insta-love, the supporting cast is fun, and I love Callie and how Ralston falls for her. 3 1/2 ⭐️
I had fun revisiting this story! This author has long been a go to for me when it comes to historic romance. #bigsummerreadathon #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks @Clwojick
Well that was fun! I don‘t normally like regencies too much - so manner manners! But this was a truly delightful read. I liked the characters and the funny situations they got into. Be warned though - lots of sexy time! Which is not something I‘m used to in a regency. Is it the norm now?
The last time I read this book was in 2012, so this was one of those delightful “it‘s like I‘m reading it for the first time!” reads. Happy to report that NRTBWRAR has stood the test of time & is as wonderful as ever! Dynamic, fiercely witty characters + hilarious dialogue, not to mention an utterly delightful plot. The romancing did move a little too quickly at times, but all in all this is a definite keep on my bookshelf. ★★★★☆.
Getting reading for the new #Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn and Netflix which is coming out Christmas Day. I decided to read another great Regency romance by Sarah MacLean and I loved it. The audiobook version is a must. Read my full review at https://www.theupstairslibrary.com
