A well-turned-out #historical #mystery, if a little prim. Would read more, especially *spoiler alert* where the heroine gets a HEA! 😝

I wish we were given more details of the spy training process and that the actual mission was more interesting. The MC was distracted by her love interest and personal drama during the whole book. I‘m willing to give the rest of the series a chance to see the resolution to the questions raised in this book. #readingwomenchallenge2019 - A book that is part of a series #YA
Finished 2 of 8 on vacation. Not too bad I don't think.
So I went in to pick up the tagged book on hold for me.... #sorrynotsorry #LitsyProblems
Another great #ManicMonday to start my week out right! Thanks, @JoScho 😀
📖 “A Spy in the House” by Y.S. Lee
🍿 “The House on Haunted Hill” (The Vincent Price version, not the 💩 remake with Geoffrey Rush!)
🎶 “Home Sweet Home” by Motley Crue (I can‘t help it, I‘m a child of the 80s!) 🙈
I am usually a huge fan of historical fiction, and the idea of a covert girl spy in historical London sounded super awesome. And while the book ended up being okay, it didn‘t quite live up to my expectations. I just had trouble getting invested in the plot or characters. Regardless it was JUST good enough that I was willing to try the second book in the series
Congrats on your milestones ladies! My top two tbr are A Spy in the House and Dread Nation (Ireland)! @Ingerella @Madamereginald #sistersgiveaway
Young woman becomes spy in Victorian London. Mary Quinn (16 years old) goes under cover for the first time. Somewhat slow pace and a lot of telling for the firt third of the book. It does pick up and rushes the end with the cliche vilain monologue. I‘m not sure I‘ll read the second book.
This book will be done by the time the 3rd period is over. 😀
🍁 and Sabres meet again.
#readingandlisteningtohockey
Last game between these Metro rivals. Ovi and Sid going head to head. Almost done with Spy in the house. #readingandlisteningtohockey
Saturday night is 🏒 night in 🇨🇦. Habs in Pittsburgh. Jets in Toronto. Probably will hop between the two. Spy in the House did pick up the pace. I'm at 50% and it's keeping me interested finally. #readingandwatchinghockey
P.S. Yeah, Crosby was howling after scoring in OT in Jersey earlier this week.
🍁 can punch their ticket to the playoffs tonight. Let's hope the 🍁 play better than the 🐧 last night. YA book is interesting if a little bit slow paced. #readingandwatchinghockey
Pens in Detroit. Started a new book and so far it's okay. #readingandwatchinghockey
Alternating between Caps in NY and Buffalo Toronto. The 🍁 game is a bit boring and Ovi is on a tear to get to 50 goals so it's a bit more up tempo. This new book is YA spy historical (Victorian) combo. So far it's a look of telling and not much showing. #readingandlisteningtohockey
This was almost a pick, just didn't quite meet the mark. I never became invested in the MC, the case the mystery, or the romance. But I enjoyed the premise and idea of a women detective agency in the 1800s. I doubt I will ever pick up this series again.
Does anyone else have a book light permanently clipped to their bed board? Told the hubby, it is just part of our bedroom decor now.
Sunday night book: this is fresh off the tbr shelves after I finished the Mary Balogh. I‘ve heard good things about this so I‘m looking forward to it.
This is a fun, quick read, a mystery set in Victorian London. Mary Quinn has to steal to survive after she's orphaned and is rescued from the gallows by Miss Scrimshaw's Academy for Girls. She later learns the school is a cover for an investigative organization called the Agency, and she is recruited as an undercover detective. I'd like to read more in this series!
Love when the library allows me to indulge my whims at a moment's notice. @WOCreads posted about this series the other day, and for some reason it sounded utterly perfect for my mood. I was utterly charmed by it, and definitely plan to spend more time Mary Quinn. Third book down for #boutofbooks but hope to finish another one or two this weekend. #readdiversebooks
Day 14: Reader That I Love
Here are my two favorite readers with our Valentine tradition of books and cupcakes. (They pick out their books.) #17booklove
November was one of those months when, looking back, I realised I didn't read any brilliant books. December will be better!
The only spy novel I've read recently. What I remember most clearly is the horrible smell of the Thames. This book was a fun escape, but it didn't make me want to go back in time. I'm glad I live in a now, when we don't just dump our sewage in the nearest river. #spynovels #photoadaynov16
#photoadaynov16 #spynovels this serie is about Mary Quinn who was save by a secret agency of women spys and the difficulties of being a woman in the XIX century. I borrow this in the winter when i was sick and by mistake take the second book first and was a fun great read and love it.

#photoadaynov16 Day 22 As much as I love a spy movie, I can't find that I have read any spy books. 😳 This one has been on my TBR for awhile. I think I heard about it from a @bookriot podcast. #spynovels
A bit late but here's my November #tbr pile. Trying to keep it reasonable this month!! #photoadaynov16
The books in this historical YA mystery series are charming. The primary setting is an English prep school that secretly trains Victorian lady spies. It's kind of like Nancy Drew meets Harry Potter in costume drama. The main character is of mixed heritage (Irish and Chinese), and struggles with her racial identity and what it means in Victorian London. It's not fine literature, but it's entertaining in that Nancy Drew way. #booktober #school
A quick, fun YA mystery/adventure. I listened to it on audio and it flew by!

3/5 stars I think this is the perfect starter book for 14 and up interested in regency type spy and romance. I wanted more of the actual "spy" storyline in this, but otherwise found it to be one of those books that need to be judged as a series than individual books.
Books about badass ladies as detectives and/or spies are like catnip for me. I devoured this one
