"Neuromancer" is an acquired taste. You will get a bare minimum of exposition and either put it back on the shelf or let go, letting it take you along its dizzying course. The story pulses with neon action atop a subtle undercurrent of humanity. The beating heart is always there, however muted. "Neuromancer" is rewarding if you persevere, surrender and succumb to its world, which not all (understandably) will be willing to do.
Was interested in this after reading that it was a major influence on the original Matrix movie. And like the first few times I saw The Matrix, I didn‘t grasp all of it, but I did understand it well enough that I wasn‘t totally lost! Definitely see how groundbreaking it was when it was published in 1984. I‘m glad I read it!
#bookspinbingo - #doublespin for this month
#pop24 - book with a 1-word title I had to look up in the dictionary
#HyggeHour #AuldLangSpine
Thought I could read this during the game, but it requires intense concentration. Giving myself an hour to really get immersed. I think the plot is picking up and hopefully I‘ll start to understand more of what‘s going on as I become more invested.
#HyggeHour
Today is certainly the perfect day for #hygge — I‘m in Southern California in the path of the “atmospheric river” bringing major storms. Rain and more rain! All day the phone has been buzzing with weather alerts, flood warnings and advisories to stay off the freeways.
I‘m in my new LLBean flannel pajamas that I got for Christmas 😍 and sipping candy cane green tea. And not thinking about how we‘re going to get to school tomorrow…
I know this is foundational af for sci-fi, essentially coining cyberpunk, but I think I really learned I'm not a huge sci-fi person. Some of the philosophical elements were cool and I did appreciate the way Gibson left descriptions of cyberspace often vague, allowing the book to remain undated way longer those most sci-fi. Wish there was more than one female character. Doesn't pass the Bechdel test lmao.
Bk3 of #WinterGames is done. I‘m having an awful start to the games, sorry! Next book will be a Xmas theme though🤞Loved this classic Scifi, one of the first cyberpunk stories. He pretty much invented the terminology we use today like cyberspace, jacked in, AI,VR etc. Case is in a tailspin after having his ability to jack in stripped, until a girl with mirrored eyes & knives for nails gives him an offer he can‘t refuse. #TeamEvergreen 4246pts👇
Love the concept, had a great time thinking about what it all means, hated the rad descriptions and felt very dumb and confused at times. The amazingly cool scenes and descriptions really are to it's determent. however, buried under them is a really clever and well constructed story.
check out our discussion about it on the Mind Duck Books podcast ep. 56: https://bit.ly/3SAO49T
I kept being told I should read this.

1. Keanu Reeves
2. I think the tagged book would be perfect. He's already done movies like The Matrix and Johnny Mnemonic, he'd fit in perfectly with Gibson's future dystopia.

Despite being a SF fan since I was a kid, I somehow never read Neuromancer until now. First published in 1984, the story of a down-on-his-luck cyber cowboy caught up in a complex heist almost never reads as dated, even if we use fewer wires these days. The focus on AI is especially timely in this age of ChatGPT, but the flawed, desperate humans are what make the story timeless.
Finished this over the break but forgot to update here!
I was very confused for most of this book and had a hard time with it. All my friends rate it 5 ⭐️ but for me it‘s more a 3.
I‘ve had covid over the last week but finally feeling better! Fingers crossed I can go to work tomorrow.
I really enjoyed this book. Being a scifi classic, I'm not sure why it took me so long to read it.
Been a while since I‘ve posted. Haven‘t been in the mood to read because of some personal stuff happening.
My friend at work leant me this and I‘m finally giving it a go! I love scifi so I hope I enjoy.
Considered a Sci-fi staple; the book that coined ‘cyberspace,‘ and birthed the cyberpunk genre.
Gibson‘s writing is vague and often confusing. Yet, there is something endearing in how it refuses to talk down to its audience, as if it‘s written for the people who live in the world Gibson creates. It‘s a tough read but I never felt myself wanting to quit even if I never quite knew what was happening.
Hard to recommend but still glad I read it.
I don‘t know if I‘m gonna be able to finish this one. It‘s very confusing and somewhat dull but I‘m trying to stick it out!
Mind blown, open wide.
This author coined the term "cyberspace". He vividly built a world that would be later called cyberpunk. This sci-fi classic was NOT an easy read for me, but worth it.
This book started off interesting but by the end it seemed convoluted, I've heard good things about it over the years but the writing style just isn‘t for me.
I found the story difficult to follow because it jumps around a lot.
There was potential for world building but I could never see it in my mind's eye, due to the poor writing which lacked the details.
The storyline could have been cool, but the author just complicates it.
"The sky above the harbor was the color of television tuned to a dead channel."
This is how the book that I have just started reading begins. A prophetic novel from many points of view, recognized by all as the rising star of cyberpunk.

Diving into the internet sounds terrifying but I have no doubt that if the technology was available now people would do it in a heartbeat. About halfway through!!

I can‘t quite describe this book in words that would summarize it in a complete and whole way. It reads like a modern sci-fi style book but the impact of it makes me think of modern classics like 1984 or Fahrenheit 451. The book leaves a lot to your own imagination, being vague in some areas but also extremely specific in others. I absolutely thought this book was an excellent read and look forward to reading it again!
My favorite part about this book is Molly‘s obsession with breakfast😂 every chapter she mentions getting breakfast at any time of day and I love it😂 just leave the drugs out😬
Next book club pick! I have no idea what this book is about and have never heard of it before now. Going in blind we‘ll see how it goes ☺️ #bookclubpick #neuromancer
This book is undoubtedly influential as it advanced the genre and pretty much created a sub-genre. But I felt so detached the entire time. I could have taken my time and read a brief summary with definition of terms for each chapter but after I did that for part one and still didn‘t connect at all I plowed through quickly. I still did want to read it because it‘s foundational but even if everything was clear I still wouldn‘t rate it too highly.
The right side of my #NEUROMANCER collection, including the first paperback edition (black spine, far right) and the first copy I ever had signed in person by Gibson (far left). No other book has had such a profound impact on my life as NEUROMANCER has.
#WinterGames2020 #The12ColoursOfDecember #Dec15 #Evergreen No holiday/winter themed book today but it‘s definitely green! A brilliant SciFi novel about a hacker left unable to log in after being caught stealing. So it‘s 11pts for Team #MerryReaders
Thought I‘d attempt a photo challenge this month, let‘s see how many posts I make before entropy wins! #Day1 of #ForeverNovember was #StartsWithN I was late coming to this classic SciFi novel by William Gibson but it was worth the wait. A brilliant story that reminds of a cross between Blade Runner & Ready Player One. Highly recommend🙌
I‘ve not read this but it is touted to be groundbreaking early AI fiction pub. in 1984 I believe.

This was one of the inspirations for The Matrix, and I‘ve never read it, but now I want to!
The Neuromancer Trilogy formed not only the Sci-Fi genre and created Cyberpunk, but had also a great impact on other arts and our society.
My book actually is all three books in one and I'd recommend reading all parts as close as possible. The story is very complex, but fascinating from the beginning.
I already plan to reread it, since I admit that I didn't get everything that was going on.
Definitely a highlight!

Well, I finished it. I didn‘t enjoy it, I‘m not entirely sure what happened, but it‘s done. I can see why this was a seminal work, but I didn‘t like it. I‘m glad I didn‘t finish it for my class all those years ago, because I can‘t imagine having to write about it.
#bookspinbonanza 10/20, halfway there with ten days to go! Think I can get at least my next five.
Starting this one, with some reservations. According to the almost-completely-faded receipt, I bought this in Dec 2003. It bookmarked page 30, which is as far as I got that time. It was for a sci-fi independent study with my absolute favorite lit professor, and the only book he assigned that I didn‘t finish (for that class). Fingers crossed for a better go this time - this is #bookspinbonanza 10 and my set in the future bingo space.
Now it‘s my #TopTenFictionOf2019 starting with 1. Gideon The Ninth. 2. Neuromancer. 3. The 4th Monkey. 4. The City Of Lost Fortunes. 5. All Systems Red(Murderbot No1). 6. Leviathan Wakes. 7. The Dakota Winters. 8. To Be Taught, If Fortunate. 9. If We Were Villains & finally 10. Dark Matter(Michelle Paver). I‘ve read 180 books so far this year, it was difficult narrowing them down. Most I‘ve given 4⭐️ in GR, it‘s been a very good reading year.

Congratulations to @GrilledCheeseSamurai on your Litfluence milestone! Litsy means so much to me, as a chronic illness sufferer, I‘m pretty much housebound & on my own a lot. Litsy has opened up my world again, it‘s given me friends from all over the world,so many book recommendations I‘m having trouble negotiating my library without being buried & support whenever I‘m having a tough day. I‘m tagging @bookladyreads a newbie litten

Another re read for my sci-fi book club...
It was fun but not as good as I remembered.
In the picture, my old, 90's, Brazilian edition.
I think I‘m probably the last litten to post their #Top6Reads of 2019 so far. Took me a bit to narrow it down, according to my GoodReads challenge, I‘ve read 68 books since Jan 1st. Rating them 1-6 is -Neuromancer(fantastic), All Systems Red(Murderbot rules), Chernobyl(nuclear nightmare), Song Of Achilles(Greek love), Ruby Ridge(scary siege) & Six Of Crows(Oceans11 on ice). Highly recommend all six! 10⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I stuck with it and got sucked in! Still a little confused at times but the author explains things as the story goes.
