I waited forever to get this Audiobook, because I like listening to True Crime (feels more real to ke that way). But now I want an actual copy of the book so I can highlight and annotate my thoughts and feelings.

This was so informative and interesting. I learned so much!
Will definitely be re-reading it once I can get my hands on a copy.

Some of you may be familiar with Val McDermid as an author of mysteries. This book, however, is non-fiction and very interesting. Because McDermid lives in Scotland, most of the examples she relates about crimes are from the UK, so I learned a lot about investigative methods used there. If you have any curiosity about the various branches of forensics, you will enjoy this book. Five stars.

Another book that was in a box leaving the house. Looked interesting and it was, very. See the fly at the top? Well there were small drawings of a fly on each page. Very real looking and often as my eyes moved along the lines reading I swear the fly moved! Very clever.

Finished listening to this one today and it was absolutely fascinating. I‘m obsessed with true crime, forensics and criminology and learned loads of interesting things. A bit gory in places but that‘s to be expected. A solid 5 ⭐️

Todays creepy watching. One episode of murder on cctv so creepy seeing final moments. Two episodes of hometown homicides and two episodes of cruise ship killings. So many never seem to get solved.
Finishing the night up with Nightmare on Elm Street 2, Freddys Revenge.

A Pick if you are looking for an intro to forensics. Since this book was published, two of the experts interviewed or quoted in this book have published their own memoirs—Unnatural Causes, by Richard Shepherd; and All That Remains, by Professor Dame Sue Black—so if you‘ve read those first, you may find this repetitive.

Very informative! Great source of information for those interested in the anatomy of crime.

Enjoyed this book a lot. It took me to some Wikipedia holes and it made me add new books on the list, including the books by herself, which I haven't read yet.

I usually listen to my audiobooks at an increased speed. I've been listening to this one at 2.5x on Scribd. When I slowes it to it's normal pace to share a chapter with someone, I found my mind wandering because it felt too slow. Does anybody else speed up their audiobooks? What's your default speed? Depending on the narrator I'm between 2x and 2.5x

Loving this so far! The narrator is great and I can't stop listening.

If you love the fictional worlds of Temperance Brennan, Eve Duncan, Dexter, or Gil Grissom, this nonfiction book is for you. Each chapter is a different kind of forensic investigation. McDermid (a mystery author herself) combines history, science, and true crime in a grisly but fascinating blend. If her fiction is half as good, I‘ll be a big fan of that also.

This is my first book by Val McDermid. I enjoyed this book thoroughly from the very first page to the very last page. The writing is engaging and the cases are intriguing. It is insightful and a must read if you enjoy true crime, history and especially forensic science.

New audiobook. I need something a little gruesome and distracting. Mr B has a nasty case of shingles, plus cellulitis (a skin infection). Hoping his fever goes down overnight ... He feels so yucky.

I told myself I would put a hold on book buying, but I had a 30% off coupon and drove right by Barnes & Noble. What was I supposed to do?

I went from mystery to comedy to essays to YA horror and even romance before settling on this one. Not sure what the thought process was.

I love ❤️ her so much. This is another great one!

Just began listening, and the narrator, Sarah Barron, has the most wonderful Scots accent. I knew it was going to be a good listen, but the more so now.

This is a fascinating look at forensics. It explains how the science has advanced throughout the years, thank goodness for that! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Edit: Finished the audiobook late last night and I had some interesting dreams. 🤔

I saw this in my library's "recommendations" section and looked it up on Audible. Love the narrator's accent and the content is like CSI on speed! Loving it!

No two bodies will decompose in the same way, and at the same rate. You can have two bodies that are literally six feet apart and they will decompose in entirely different manners. It could be the amount of fat on the body. It could be the drugs they were taking, or the medication. It could be the type of clothing they‘re wearing. It could be that one has a particular odour that is more attractive to flies than the other. Absolutely anything.

We see some of the worst things that mankind can do to each other and I still get shocked by some of the things that occur. Most people can go home and talk to their families about what they‘ve done at work. We can‘t. But even if I could, I don‘t want my family to know some of the things that I‘ve seen.

Today's #audible #dailydeal was just too good to pass up! I've been thinking about buying this for a while now.

#17booklove- #lovetolisten. I ADORE audiobooks. I listened to 42 of them last year!! Hard to narrow down favorites, so here are my 10 most recent listens. John Scalzi's books are hilarious, and narrated by Wil Wheaton! Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (who does the Aaronovitches) is brilliant. Celebrities always make good narrators, and that Forensics narrator had a Scottish accent I could listen to all day. 😍😍

The book only covers developments in the UK and it is likely based on the notes the author took when writing her novels. It contains some interesting factoids - e.g. the head of a match doesn't burn down in a fire, and the chemicals used on it can be traced to different brands of matches. So there you go - if you're planning an arson, don't leave the match on on the scene of the crime...

Brilliantly written, and absolutely fascinating, this book looks at the various aspects of forensic science with case studies and expert interviews. It's a brilliant primer for this field, although not for the squeamish in places. I've never read any of McDermid's fiction, but am now planning to read the first of her Tony Hill books. A super & engaging read.

This book is SO DAMN BRILLIANT- it's been on my TBR for about an age but I'm loving it. Note probably *not* for the squeamish tho 🤢

Onto some non-fiction. This has been in my TBR for over a year but it's definitely time, frankly ...

Not hugely ground-breaking if you read as many mysteries as I do, but full of fascinating details of true crimes. And the Scottish narrator makes the audio truly spectacular. I could listen to her talk all day, even if it is about blood spatter & maggot pupae!

Awesome book! So much information presented in an easy to digest way - as a fiction writer can do! If you love crime shows on tv or crime books (or if you anticipate committing murder, just sayin') you'll love this book!
