Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke is a thrilling conclusion to the Inkworld trilogy. The immersive world-building and intricate plot kept me hooked till the very end. The characters are vibrant and the stakes are high, making for a gripping adventure. What is it with me, and the need to give secondhand books a new home? 👀

I started the Inkheart trilogy decades ago but never got around to finishing it. It was probably due to the fact that Scholastic fairs weren't as accessible after I finished high school, and local bookstores stopped having Cornelia Funke books among their stocks. 😐

But over the weekend, a local online bookseller put their copy up for sale, and I couldn't pass it up!

RaeLovesToRead Wow. What a cover! 11mo

Ugh, I forgot how misogynistic this series is after the first book. There are allusions to rape, descriptions of child marriage & pregnancy, a lot of descriptions of torture & executions, and women are referred to as a „thing“. The female characters are relegated to the side lines and just accept their terrible lot. They moan and cry while the men fight. Meggie really deserved better!

#Inkheart #CorneliaFunke

julesG Sums up the issues I had with this series quite nicely. 3y
thewallflower0707 @julesG and I‘m afraid Funke hasn‘t really improved 😬. Her new Reckless series is also very much focused on the male characters, though at least there is one female character with agency (Fuchs). I also wonder how much Inkheart & Reckless can really be described as literature for young adult since there is so much horrible stuff in it 3y
julesG I haven't read anything else by Funke. I'd recon you can call it YA, with an age group of 14/15 year olds and upwards. Wouldn't consider it middle-grade though. Those are fairly horrible topics, but thinking about what I had to read in school at that age, I guess a younger YA audience can cope. 3y

The series as a whole is fantastic, the character development is slow but still recognisable! The ending was an interesting take on wanting to explore different worlds!

Only comment would be that there were too many “they died..wait no they didn‘t” storylines in this part of the series

„Be careful what you wish for.
You might get it.“

(Das freie Morgen ist auch dringend nötig.)

Strahlende Herbst-?-Sonne-☀️ hier. ?

Buechersuechtling @ju.ca.no Dankeschön. Sieht bisher ganz gut aus. (Anstehende Aufgaben ausblenden bzw. Prokrastinieren kann ich manchmal echt gut. ?)

julesG @Buechersuechtling lange her. Sehr sehr lange.
Also: Gut gewählt, Frau Funke. 6y

Jetzt geht‘s hiermit weiter.

You know when you've watched and dedicated yourself to a good tv series but by the nth season, it just doesn't do it for you anymore when there's so many new series just waiting to be watched? That's how I felt about this final book of Funke's Inkheart series. And I almost never bail on a book (unless it's one of my hubby's experimental fiction books that make my brain mushy 🙄) Has anyone read a three book series that amazed you right to the end?
