@andrew65 asked for #christmaslights and the first thing that popped into my head was Nightlights. I read this for LMPBC a while ago. I liked it, but didn't love it. Still have not read the sequel.

I have an hour before I need to log on to a friend Zoom hangout. I could catch up on Litsy reviews. Or I could read this gorgeous book I picked up at the library this morning…

Here are all the graphic novels I‘ve read recently! They‘ve been helping me decompress, and I‘d say almost all of these have some kind of theme of love for February. I loved the Nighlights series artwork the most and the storyline from The Tea Dragon Society series the best. My least favorite was Tiny Dancer and Monet (the artwork was beautiful, but some of Monet‘s life choices weren‘t stellar).

This was a very weird little MG graphic novel, but the artwork is STUNNING! A little girl's drawings come to life only to be eaten up by monsters.
I'm not 100% sure I got the whole gist of the story, but the artwork alone is worth picking this up.

This book had the most amazing graphics and illustrations. They were gorgeous and yet at times creepy, but still beautiful.

I think Nightlights is supposed to be my Jan. And Antihero Feb. I will probably read both and send off together. I have Monday off and decided to devote it to reading.

This was an interesting graphic novel. I can‘t say it was short and sweet, more like short and creepy. The major thing is, I have seen this story before. Not this exact book, but the story. I am not sure if it is an old folk tale or what, but I know I have seen this story done before. Saying that, I still like this book for the excellent illustrations. But to get the full story, I will probably have to read book 2.

This was short but cute and very colorful! There isn‘t a lot to say about it other than that. I won‘t be mailing until the end of the month — but I look forward to the other choices. #LMPBC #GroupB #Round010

#HollyJollyReading Day 2: Night #Lights has a surreal, otherworldly, magical realism component that appealed to my sensibilities. I know that there may be a few conventional types who may find it too out there or the ending unresolved, but I like how open-ended it was – providing spaces for the reader to draw their own conclusions. This is the second installment in her NightLight series, and this is just as good as the first one. Alvarez continues with the gorgeous illustrations.

Just as good on a second reading as the first time. And the illustrations is just 😍😍😍

#Booked2019 - Night-oriented title

Stunning visuals. I mean just gorgeous. This is creepy, though, and I wouldn‘t recommend it for wry young or very sensitive readers. But as a former Catholic school girl, I appreciated that that was part of the story, and the mathematical references were spot on.

This is such a gorgeous book! The illustrations are to die for and I loved the story too. It's a quick read but it would be a great addition to any kid's library

I thought this graphic novel was great, but my second and fourth grader did not like it. They didn‘t understand it and they thought it was creepy (it is a little creepy). My sophomore niece was over today and I handed it to her to read. She loved it. But the illustrations, while beautiful, are a little juvenile for the story.

I also really enjoyed that the monster is bested USING MATH!

Colombian artist Lorena Alvarez drew on her own experiences as a child attending Catholic school to create this gorgeous #graphicnovel for all ages. There are some scary parts as Sandy grapples with her insecurities made visible, and the happy ending is a bit abrupt, so it‘s probably a good idea for adults to discuss this with younger readers. Exuberant and confounding. I found myself rereading it many times.

This #graphicnovel addresses a child‘s relationship with her own creativity. The art is amazing and the topic is an important one.

Behind this beautiful cover is a fabulous, deliciously creepy story that will surely surprise readers who pick it up. Sandy draws all the time & daydreams, even at school, about the fantastical worlds she wants to create. One day Sandy meets a new girl at school & she soon discovers her drawings are far more powerful than she ever imagined. Gorgeous illustrations, a story about friendship & art & more, & yes, a touch of creepiness. A good read.

You may think this will be adorable but you are wrong. It is frightening and you must be prepared for a weekend‘s worth of nightmares. For lovers of Coraline and kids who scare you.

Why yes, I did buy a book just for the illustrations, and yes, it was more than worth it! Beautiful! The story line is a little strange, but still good in that it shows a girl fighting her demons.

Absolutely gorgeous book! I need to read more graphic and children's books so I can enjoy the talent of the amazing illustrators. I'm off to read in bed now, and will probably do a wrap-up #readathon post in the morning. Well done, all!

The art is gorgeous! I checked it out for myself and had to steal it back from my kids because they immediately took it and obsessed over it. The story is complex, I think I'm still processing. Definitely a winner!

Absolutely stunning artwork! This book could have been about anything at all and I would have read it. The ending was a bit abrupt and I had to reread it to fully understand what happened, but I loved it!

This book is so pretty I can't stand it. And I love the story. It's so creative and fun! Probably might scare the kid, tho. It wasn't shelved in the kids section but I can see her mistaking this as one of hers. She is only 2 after all.

Adorable, but way too short. This graphic novel is a joy for the eye! The illustrations are colourful, imaginative and extremely well executed! I fell in love with the illustration style and those little monsters reminded me of Studio Ghibli movies (and who doesn't love that?!) The story is about an introverted little artist, living in her own little imaginated world.

I loved this! The art is a combo of colorful, adorable, and creepy at times.
