Since this book is historical fiction there are many things that are different from then and now. Back then black and white people did not go to the same school, shop at the same grocery store, or use the same bathrooms. We can teach our children about the different cultures and races of people. Especially since nowadays there are more families immigrating into the U.S. We can teach our children about the past but teach ways to better the future.

This is a historical fiction book. This story takes place during the 1930s. During this time in history black and white people did not share the same restroom let alone live together. Times were quite different, especially how people lived and how people treated each other. During this time the Civil Rights action was starting to take place. Black people were starting to stand up for themselves and want more freedom and privileges as white people.

I have read and reread this one and it never loses its magic. This most recent reread was inspired by our brand new pup that we named Scout. It was Atticus and Calpurnia that stuck out to me this time, my first reading it after becoming a parent. It‘s an impossible task, raising a child. The impact those two have on the story and Scout and Jem can‘t be measured. I know I‘ll reread this one again in every new season of life.

Tamra My son & I were just talking about this one as a possible reading pick for his English class. I have the same beautiful edition. 😘 to the pup! (edited) 7mo

Few things in life are better than re-reading a beloved book. I‘m shocked at how much I did not take in the first times I‘ve read this book. I am very impressed with the ease with which it is narrated through the eyes of little Scout. A fine novel indeed.

#CourtroomSetting #BookBinge @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Why is it that with all the dozens and dozens of books I can think of I‘ve read where people should have been in court, have been in court, are in jail… this is the only one I can think of with an actual courtroom scene? You see court on TV all the time! Is it in some way visually interesting that‘s boring to write about, or am I just watching a different kind of media than I‘m reading…🤔

This beauty was named Harper before she became my fur baby/service dog/constant companion/shadow. I started calling her Harper Lee a few days after that. I figure, if I‘m going to use the name, I should probably at least reread this book and read Go Set A Watchman. 🐕‍🦺📚

Two Things:
1. If the cover is beyond disturbing.
2. If the cover has NOTHING to do with the story!

These are covers from other countries, but still ... what visual message is being given?

Very good read. When rereading, this book doesn't loose its touch as the powerful message is still as striking as ever. This coming of age book is both fascinating and virtuous as Harper Lee reveals the life style and culture of that time period through the eyes of a child.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Eggs Well done 👍🏼 12mo
cscole I saw the movie with Gregory Peck first. I was mesmerized by his acting. All of actors were absolutely brilliant. Being filmed in black and white was perfect. I hope they never redo it in color! It‘s perfect! And then I read the book… it was the movie! The descriptions of the town, the characters, the scenes! Amazing! I know Harper Lee wanted Gregory Peck for the part of Atticus. There will never be another. (edited) 12mo

While ‘To Kill a Mockingbird‘ is still one of the most popular American novels ever written, I think it should be viewed as an early attempt to deal with racism in fiction, and probably best studied alongside literature written from black perspectives.

This book is a great example of american literature. It highlights the coexistence of good and evil, along with themes such as class, race, and morality. Harper lee also suggests the importance of equality, empathy, and justice. It is set in Alabama in the 1930s, and is told from a young girl named Scout . Her father, Atticus , is a lawyer defending a black man, Tom Robinson, who has been falsely accused of a crime. I highly recommend this book

I loved this book!! I wanted to keep reading it and it was very well written. The beginning was a little slow but completely necessary for the plot, buildup, and character development. I had to stop reading sometimes because of how much I got into the book because I needed a second to think about everything that just happened.
