Starting this one today. Vaguely appropriate for the season, which is most unlike me!

I won this book in a giveaway 2 years ago, so it's taken me long enough to pick it up🙈Whilst I did enjoy this book, I found the pacing slow and there was too much information that I found boring. But onto the good stuff, I absolutely loved the world building and the dark academia vibes, the eerie friendship between the 4 and a mysterious murder mystery which isn't entirely the focus but still interesting. The ending was a little confusing.
My first book of 2020 was The Furies by Katie Lowe and the last book I read was Yule: Rituals, Recipes & Lore for the Winter Solstice.
My first read for 2021 is Dark Archives: A Librarian‘s Investigation into the Science and History of Books Bound in Human Skin. You know...a cheery little read to kick the year off right 🤪

When reading this book I kept trying to find what missed for me. The writing is fantastic in a technical sense. It's well written and the engaging.
However, I was unable to engage with any of the characters. At points I felt sorry or angry 'at' them but never 'with' them. It was a very different experience than I was expecting.
I will be interested to see what Katie Lowe writes next. :)
Overall Rating: 3 stars
~Big THANK-YOU to netgalley~
Painting and rearranging! Not the best at getting clean edges, so I need to do some cleaning up, but I do really like the color.
Sorry for the radio silence on here. As you can see, I‘ve been moving! This heap of boxes are almost all of my books that I am itching to unpack but I have to finish painting first 😪 Still slowly making my way through the tagged book...very slowly...but I‘m nearly done. I‘m going to have more than two bookcases to stuff all my books in now! So my biggest challenge is going to be figuring out how best to organize and display them 😁
This week‘s #bookreport.
📚Finished and reviewed THE FIRE ONE HIGH and NINTH HOUSE.
📚Put THE NIGHT COUNTRY aside so I could re-listen to THE HAZEL WOOD first. I looooooove this book on audio.
📚Haven‘t started BURNOUT yet. Not sure when IRL book club is meeting to discuss...
📚Bailed on THE FURIES. It just wasn‘t atmospheric enough to draw me in. 😢
Well, I have a day to finish these two library books. I‘m supposed to do the final move into the new house this weekend, hence the needing to finish these before I go, but the snow is coming down so we‘ll see if that happens. Once those are done I‘ll finally be able to move onto Planetfall which is one of my #NewYearWhoDis books! I have a few more coming but not sure they‘ll get here before the end of the month due to weather. @jessinikkip
I hate to write negative reviews because I can only imagine how much time, Heart and effort goes into writing a novel. However, with that being said, this book just wasn‘t for me. I had trouble following some of the descriptions and I also never really connected with the characters on a level that made me actually care about them. The premise sounded so good. It has received many good reviews-just wasn‘t for me.

So my team is, unsurprisingly, getting clobbered. It‘s 42 to 0 and it‘s not even the fourth quarter yet. Time to bring out my reading material, which is much more satisfying than this game.
It was supposed to rain all day but turned out to be beautiful so my son is at his tennis lessons. Thankfully I had my kindle in my bag and starting this ARC I‘ve had on net galley for ages.
Well this British version of The Craft had more #Murder than I expected!! These teen witches are dark, and this book is beautifully written! I enjoyed it quite a bit! A perfect read for a #DarkNight! #Scarathlon #Team Stoker 2 points #Spooktober #ScreamathonPhotoChallenge

Enjoying the last bit of the weekend with The Furies by Katie Lowe. Thus far it seems to be another great, spooky fall read.
Violet starts attending an elite girls‘ school after a personal tragedy and becomes mesmerized by another girl. Their group starts delving into witchcraft (real or not is unclear) and dangerous behaviors/activities. Ultimately about the power of female friendship, this book gets dark and disturbing. A good read for October, out 10/8. (FYI Goodreads calls this YA and it is not.)
Arc from netgalley So far it‘s ok kinda confusing but I‘m only 30% so maybe it will get better
Late for my #bfc wrap up. Only finished one book - tagged - which is by no means perfect but I would still recommend especially if you love school based, female friendship dramas with a bit of witchcraft thrown in. Did my 70k steps this week and also had a lovely river swim today!
@wanderinglynn
After a tragic accident, Violet is sent to an exclusive girls school where she attracts the attention of a teacher who invites her to join an elite club. The school is located at the site where witch trials took place and the four girls dabble in witchcraft and rituals, believing that it gives them power. An excellent portrayal of adolence and a gripping thriller, altho slightly over the top at times.
NetGalley #ARC that reminds me of the 🎬The Craft but deeper & darker. At a girl's prep school in a coastal town, Violet meets 3 schoolmates & joins their special study group with an art teacher who tells them the legend of the school's founder--put to death for witchcraft but not before summoning the Erinyes or Furies of Ancient Greek Myth for revenge. The girls start practicing witchcraft & things spiral out of control. Disjointed but not bad.
A quick trip to Target & the SBUX within before waiting (& fitting a chapter in) before getting my haircut, then I am getting the heck out of the mall. 😱 #dayoff
#BookMail Pt3 Violet is sent to Elm Hollow Academy, a private girls school in a coastal town, famous as the site of 17th century witch trials. She becomes the 4th member of a study group with Robin, Grace & Alex, led by their art teacher Annabel. With the group starting to believe witchcraft is real, the appearance of the body of a former member of the group that disappeared 9 months ago, Violet starts to wonder if she can trust anyone.
Secret History, Special Topics in Calamity Physics, The Basic Eight, and the movie The Craft -and you have the plot of The Furies. Elite school, exclusive clique, charismatic adult mentor, dabbles in witchcraft, drugs and alcohol. The writing jumps around in time with no warning and that along with all the intoxication gives an incoherent feel to everything, which makes sense as the story is told by a character looking back at the past👇🏼👇🏼
Nonstop rain in Michigan means I‘ve yet to get my new deck furniture actually out on my deck. But it‘s soooooo comfy! So, my son and I are just hanging out on it in the garage while we read. 😂😂😂 Lots of great NetGalley downloads to get through; the tagged book is another murder at an exclusive school with a sketchy clique involved - a total weakness of mine!! #garageliving #rainrainandmorerain #dogsoflitsy #loki #petsoflitsy #summerreading
Word of mouth 🔥🔥🔥🔥can‘t wait to read .💕📚
A school with a dark history. In this page-turning debut, the campus is reeling after a 16 yr old is found dead on the grounds. A new student, Violet, has troubles of her own and is desperate to fit in. A tight-knit group of friends offers her a place in the circle, leading her where she never imagined she would go..to dark, dangerous, violent places. How far will these young girls go to protect-or destroy-one another?

Two thrillers on my doorstep today—one just out in paperback; the other a long wait till October. Good reading ahead.
