This book was multiple short stories put together 📚 I really enjoyed a lot of them and found myself binging it pretty quickly. Joe Hill is such an amazing author and I love that his dad, Stephan King, co-wrote 2 of the stories with him ❤️

Flawed people struggle through terrifying situations. “Dark Carousel” is vivid, creature horror. I love the library & “Late Returns” makes you look twice at the Bookmobile. Title story nails the lingering affects of Vietnam on flawed vets, it‘s like Hill spent a week with my uncle if he was a biker. “In the Tall Grass,” co-written with Hill‘s dad, is frightening. #audiobook #shortstories #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall #Scarathlon
As with most collections, there are some great stories in here and there are also some that bored me. The best, by far, is Late Returns which is about a bookmobile visited by people who died years ago-a beautiful story, and so hopeful. Other standouts are Faun (about a doorway to a mythical world) and the two co-written with Stephen King, Throttle and In the Tall Grass.
Overall, an enjoyable collection!
It took me 2ish years but I finally finished this book of short stories. It didn‘t deserve to have taken me so long. I‘m just terrible at short stories. 🤷🏻♀️I enjoyed every story but one, and all are memorable. My favorites? Faun (big game hunting…mythical creatures?), Dark Carousel (animate carousel horses, anyone?), Late Returns (time traveling book mobile!), and You Are Released (in flight at the likely end of the world…so eerie).
Not being a super fan of short stories, with exception to Stephen King‘s. His son follows in his fathers footsteps with this wonderful horror anthology. Twelve unique tales honoring some of our greatest authors. Mail being my least favorite and In the tall, tall Grass, classic King, being my favorite.
Wasn‘t able to finish this one before the end of Oct. Read the first three stories.

From “Wolverton Station”
“Saunders had been all for peace and love in his twenties, and he liked to think he still was, but over the years he had also developed a hankering for the rusty-salt flavor of blood. It was, like coffee itself, an acquired taste.”

From “Wolverton Station”
“When it came to producing a state of focus, quiet contentment, and inner peace, Zen meditation ran a very distant second to caffeine. Your average suburban white-bread Buddhists could manage without their daily yoga class, but take ‘em away from their coffee and they‘d be animals in no time…”

What are you reading?😊
A hit and miss short story collection. There are some good yarns and some duds. Still a very good writer, and worth picking up even if you don‘t read all the tales. ‘20th Century Ghosts‘ is a better collection from the same author.
This is a perfect collection of dark horror/sci fi/fantasy stories. Some are quite gruesome and not for the squeamish (In the Tall Grass) and some are even quite poignant (Late Returns). I recommend the audio version because it is read by some of my favorite narrators including Neil Gaiman, Wil Wheaton, and Kate Mulgrew.
TW: baby loss
1. The most recent collection I‘ve added to my TBR stacks.
2. Mad Hatters and March Hares - Ellen Datlow
3. I like both.

This review is for the story Late Returns in this collection.
First off, I loved the Dark Tower references Hill put in. 💚 Secondly, this is one of the best in this collection. A man driving a mobile library finds himself in interesting situations that involve overdue library books. This story is heartfelt, but it also has a spooky vibe.
#TeamHarkness #Scarathlon2020 @StayCurious
A strong collection that is equal parts chilling, enthralling and at times, even moving.
Joe Hill continues to hold rank as a favorite author. This is a great collection of short stories. I read this on audio and loved the top notch narrators; Neil Gaiman, Kate Mulgrew, Zachary Quinto, Wil Wheaton, and Ashleigh Cummings...to name a few. #MountTBR
I really enjoyed the #CYOReadathon and hope that there'll be another round. I managed to reach my goals and even though I felt bad yesterday, I managed to read a little more than planned! 😄
Thank you @Sace for organizing and hosting! ❤
Now it‘s time for a splash of Riesling and a short story. 😀 #readathon #deweysreadathon #deweyapril
Not sure what to say, another solid collection. ‘Late Returns‘ and ‘Faun‘ are two particular standouts...‘By the Silver Waters of Lake Champlain‘ is another good one (and how great is that title?). If you like short stories, especially dark ones, then you‘ll dig this.
Only stories I liked were In the tall grass, which is definitely better than the movie (no pun!), and Dark Carousel.
Which ones did you like?
"All he saw was the tattoo, DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR. A good thought, and how often did you get a chance to give someone exactly what he wanted?"

Out of the 14 books read this month, 7 were towards #MarchUnshelfing and I am pretty proud I read so many books on my shelf! Thank you @Clwojick for hosting this challenge!
So I‘ve finished out the weekend at a little over 13 hours of reading. I finished Joe Hill‘s Full Throttle and loved it! I also finished The Familiar Dark but did not love it. And I made progress in Adnan‘s Story. I cannot wait to continue recording my time throughout the rest of the week #24B4MONDAY
• Reading the first story, "Throttle," by Hill and his Dad and it feels like a scene from Mad Max. It's gritty, grisly and awesome •
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely loved this collection of short stories. They were written so extremely well. They were scary and unsettling and just what a good horror short story collection should be. Really recommend. I also loved his Introduction and the things he said about his father. This was my pick for #readwithmrbook #litsyauthor and another book towards #marchunshelfing
I've been having a hard time finding the right book the last couple of weeks; it's hard for me to concentrate on print right now. But this audiobook was fantastic and just what I needed for lots of audio knitting so I could keep reading and keep my hands busy! I loved so many of the stories, especially "Dark Carousel," "Faun," "Late Returns," and especially "All I Care About is You."
“‘And you‘re not an envoy from the Lord? You‘re not an angel?‘
‘Nope. Just a librarian.‘
‘Ah, well,‘ she said. ‘That‘s close enough for me.‘”
From “Late Returns,” Full Throttle by Joe Hill
1. Stephen King, and his son, Joe Hill, too!
2. I am definitely a night owl
3. Can I say both, together? Chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered caramels with sea salt on top 😋

I finished my first book of the #StayHome24in48 this morning and now I face the trial of picking out what to read next. Sometimes it‘s nice to read a short story or two while I transition between full length books, so I broke out Full Throttle. I haven‘t gotten to the first story yet, but I read a review somewhere that said something like “just the introduction is worth the price of admission.” They were right. #24in48
Weird (in a good way) and entertaining. There is a variety of topics in this collection of short stories, my favorite being Late Returns.
decided to rate each individual story in this collection for funsies. overall this was a super fun read and I'm eager to read Hill's other works in the future. in the tall grass was delightfully creepy and I was surprised 2 of my other favorites ended up being the non-horror stories (late returns and all I care about is you). also fyi, the ebook has a formatting issue with the devil on the staircase story.
welp, turns out I can't attend my next book club meeting because of another event I'm attending on the same weekend. time to work on the tbr and my libby list.
My lovely Valentines pressies from hubby ❤️ and I did actually remember to buy something for him!
⬆️⬆️ Hope to dive in soon; I miss Joe Hill

Oooh, I‘m so excited to see people are keeping #24in48 alive this weekend, even without official hosts or prizes ♥️🙌🏻📚
I was planning on it, & I see I won‘t be alone.
I‘m aiming to have Full Throttle finished (that should work), and though my stack is small in number, it is large in page count with these two doorstops. I‘ll probably finish my current poetry read, & a graphic novel or two as well.
Happy reading!!!

Joe Hill has become one of my fav authors and his short story collections are a great way to get smaller examples of his talent. My favorites from this collection: Wolverton Station, Faun, Late Returns, Twittering from the Circus of the Dead, and You Are Released. I liked his collection Strange Weather just a smidge more but this is still great! 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Oooof 😦
From Late Returns
Taking my time with this collection - 1 a day. And I‘m loving it 🥰
Just finished this collection of short stories from my favorite author, Joe Hill. My favorites are Faun and Mums.
🎧 Finishing a bunch of books! Book mojo is back! What a collection of amazing narrators! Stories? 1 stinker, 3 ok & the rest 4-5 stars. Best story was written with his dad, narrated by Wil Wheaton & is worth the price of the book. A time traveling bookmobile gives those nearing the end a chance to read future books. Joe Hill name drops himself into the story 😁 This is a great compilation with 9 very good to excellent stories. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/3
If you are anywhere near Palmyra, NY today, you need to get to The Dog Eared Book before they close at 6 so you can take advantage of their buy one, get one free sale. Christmas books & other select books and bookish items are included in the sale!
I was excited to see these two wishlist books were still available & still can‘t believe that I got them both for the price of one! I‘m looking forward to reading them! Have you read either of these?
Full Throttle by Joe Hill is an interesting collection of short stories that range from heartfelt to pure terror.

Strong and creepy stories that play with classic short stories and twist them. Always entertaining.
