I really enjoyed this book. By the same author that wrote Big Little Lies. It has a lot of characters, almost too many. And it dives into all the different ways people choose to live. But it all works.
Soft pick. I‘m not sure Moriarty will ever top Big Little Lies, but I did enjoy this novel about a disparate group of people on a wellness retreat. Some of the characters are well-fleshed out and others took me awhile to keep straight. There are some heavy topics explored that caught me off guard. Ultimately, I found the plot and the retreat leader a bit too ridiculous, but I was inspired to fit a silent retreat into my 2024 plans. 😂 3⭐️
A sunny morning in Cologne ☀️☕️🌻
Enjoying a cup of coffee and this vastly entertaining book! The relatively slow pace, variety of interesting characters and detailed build-up to *something* (which I cannot guess yet but it‘s suspenseful!!) suits me just fine this summer. Life with crutches is so slow!
Zelda the cutie is keeping me company 😍
I wanted to like this, but it felt a bit.... flat.
The characters weren't likeable, it was a little dull in parts, and it was missing something. Don't get me wrong, it's not awful, but it was just lacking in some sort of spark!
A much needed bit of "me time"
Ginger beer is my latest vice ??
Ok let‘s talk about this book! First off, it wasn‘t horrible, however, I was expecting more. In my mind I thought “wow this book is so good they made a show out of it”. The book wasn‘t exactly what I would call a thriller personally. Now, I did the audiobook version so maybe that had something to do with it. But the show….WOW!!! Literally nothing like the book! Almost everything was different. I honestly like it better than the book. Thoughts??
I really enjoyed this one. I know it's controversial, but many people don't enjoy it. I liked this one and the show, but the book more. I can see myself wanting to do this kind of “retreat.“
Anyway, it's my #June 2022 pick.

Soft pick for the entertainment value. I enjoyed the story, and the characters. The book was much too long. Could have easily cut 100 pages and had it be more impactful.
I have only read 2 novels by Liane Moriarty, and this was not as good as BIG LITTLE LIES. I thoroughly enjoyed the character development, and the constant POV shifting reminded me of Agatha Christie's AND THEN THERE WERE NONE. Shades of a locked-room mystery existed as well. However, the ending was too rushed and the quickness of Masha's demise were unrealistic. Because of that, I saw this as a good mystery romp and nothing much else.
While I appreciate a good build-up, and Moriarty does a great job establishing her characters, I feel like it took so long before anything really happened. The most thrilling parts of the book were near the end and weren‘t very long. I think fans of her writing style would enjoy this book, but I wanted more of the mystery that I saw in her other books. Also (nothing to do w the book) I hate how the cover is smaller to put the quote in the side.
I was telling a coworker about a meditation retreat I‘m attending soon. She asked me if it‘s going to be like the retreat depicted in the Hulu series. Moriarty did a great job writing about the retreat center. It‘s a lengthy book and seemed to take a long time to get to the shocking parts. Once the story climaxed, it felt rushed and awkward. The participants quickly dispersed and the rest of the book provided updates on the participants‘ lives.
I really enjoyed this read! It was a quick listen, and I loved the narration of it (with all the changes in voice/accents). Would definitely recommend it..
I am on episode 4 of the Hulu adaptation. It's very different but I am really enjoying it as well. :)
Also, the smoothies are to die for!
This is my new #AudioCommute and #AudioCleaning book :) I am enjoying them so far!
Excited about watching the Hulu show afterward :)
It‘s June already. 🤪
A book with #anynumberintitle written by the same author as a book with #lies in the title. 😎

Thank goodness I had this audio to keep me company through the MOST wretched thunderstorm as I drove to my friend's wedding yesterday!
I watched the series a bit ago and enjoyed it so thought I'd probably enjoy the book. I definitely did! The series definitely veers from the book so the book is still full of surprises and arguably more twisted than the show. I'm pretty sure in both book and show Francis is my favourite☺️

He could find hatred in his heart for her, too, if he went looking for it. The secret of a happy marriage was not to go looking for it.
I watched the show on Hulu and enjoyed it but of course the book is even better! They changed quite a few things in the show so it was nice to read the original intent. It made more sense.

Read this as a buddy read, just finished it yesterday. I enjoyed it, it was my second read from her, first being Big Little Lies which I loved. I‘m excited to watch the show on Hulu, probably this weekend. Also I‘d made cinnamon rolls with a tiktok hack I saw about adding heavy whipping cream lol

✨Thank you! Get back into reading again in the first place, I guess. My tentative reading goal would be 35 books this year, but that's not really important...
✨ commitment
✨Started it in June last year, put it off for a long time. I want to finish it as I'd like to start my new reading year afresh afterwards. It's an entertaining read, though and I enjoy it...

Started this early in the month and wanted to finish it before year‘s end. Nine people are at a remote health resort for 10 days and don‘t realize how their lives will be changed. It started out slow but got very interesting towards the end. This is a character-driven story which led to a tv series. Definitely a study of human behavior. Amusing!
Exploring the stories behind each character's reason for being at this resort was interesting, and I enjoyed seeing how those stories each played out at the end. But I found the suspense a lot of build-up leading to twists that were kind of weak. I like Moriarty's characters though, and would read more from her.

My #February pick. Of the Moriarty books I've read, this was the second best after Big Little Lies. It started slow, but I ended up loving it in the end. I haven't seen the show (movie?), so Idk how it compares.

It started a little slow, but it had a really good ending. Onto the mini series…
