Gillian Flynn says, "Karin Slaughter is simply one of the best thriller writers working today." Saturday night dates at the skating rink have been a tradition in the small southern town of Heartsdale for as long as anyone can remember, but when a teenage quarrel explodes into a deadly shoot-out, Sara Lintonthe town's pediatrician and medical examinerfinds herself entangled in a terrible tragedy. What seemed at first to be a horrific but individual catastrophe proves to have wider implications. The autopsy reveals evidence of long-term abuse, of ritualistic self -mutilation, but when Sara and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver start to investigate, they are frustrated at every turn. The children surrounding the victim close ranks. The families turn their backs. Then a young girl is abducted, and it becomes clear that the first death is linked to an even more brutal crime, one far more shocking than anyone could have imagined. Meanwhile, detective Lena Adams, still recovering from her sister's death and her own brutal attack, finds herself drawn to a young man who might hold the answers. But unless Lena, Sara, and Jeffrey can uncover the deadly secrets the children hide, it's going to happen again . . .

TRIGGER WARNING: I had a difficult time with this one. It‘s not because it‘s not a good book; it is. It‘s the subject matter. I had to stop listening several times because I just couldn‘t listen anymore. If you can get past the horribly awful parts, it is still a good book in the series. #SeriesLove2023 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView

TheSpineView Well done! I must day this book is probably not for me. 9mo
deeannloso @TheSpineView Probably not. It doesn‘t come up until 3/4 into the book, so I just stopped when I had to. Very disturbing. 9mo

“In this chilling follow-up to Blindsighted, Sara Linton, her ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey Tolliver, and detective Lena Adams are caught in an evil web involving a young girl who commits suicide by forcing a cop to shoot her. Shouldering the political aftermath, Jeffrey struggles to understand the victim‘s desperation. So does Sara, the girl‘s pediatrician and now her coroner, who soon discovers that the suicide was linked to a brutal crime.”

I'm officially obsessed with this series. 😍

Kisscut was a bit harder to listen to than Blindsighted, given the nature of the storyline, but nothing that I couldn't handle.

I'm not feeling Lena though. She is driving me absolutely mad as a character and making all the worst choices as a cop. Someone tell me she gets easier to deal with 😕

I'm not feeling play time today. I just need to sit and listen to a few chapters and disconnect for a while.

I might not have the energy to play, but I have a swimming pool, half a bag of marshmallows and some straws. This might just give me the 10 mins I need 🤣

Grant County Book 2.

I only thought the first book was a wild ride, but this book was even darker with more action. These books are not for everyone because the crimes are graphic and gory. Slaughter describes such heinous acts with such description that I cringed while reading sections of this book.

We learn more about the characters and the complexity of what haunts them and drives them to do their jobs.

Still working on #24B42020 If I finish one more book I will meet my goodreads goal.I‘m a little late to the party reading Slaughter, the main characters in the Grant county series ,Sara ,pediatrician & medical examiner,Jeffrey ,the police chief ,& Detective Lena are complex & interesting .Her thrillers are violent and graphic ,so be warned.

GypsyKat I bought three of her books at a library sale and haven‘t read any yet, so I‘m late too. 😂 4y

Didn‘t leave me wanting as terribly for the next book as the first did (although, can‘t imagine it will be too long). The series itself is violent and graphic, and in some ways the 2nd novel was more disturbing than the first) I still like Karin Slaughter‘s new work better (the Good Daughter is why I sought out more of her work) but it‘s really detailed and terrifying and it sucks you right in. -while I‘m casting the series, I pick Demi for Lena)

This is the second book in the Grant County series. I liked this one a lot, the continuation of the relationship between Sara and Jeffrey, the development of Lena and Sara's family. This was pretty graphic, so some readers may be triggered, but it was a well-done psychological thriller. I can't wait to read the third one (once the other patron returns it to the library - late!)

5feet.of.fury The relationship dynamics were great in this one! (And yeah, aside from that it‘s pretty disturbing) 5y

I am restricting myself to one Slaughter a month. They are pretty addictive despite the repulsive details, and the horrible, almost unimaginable things that happen in this book. You need a strong stomach for these books. But I have and I am enjoying them and I love the twists and the main characters.

Tanisha_A Hi Barbara! Hope you are doing well! I will be in Amsterdam in a few days, and I really wish to see Anne Frank House. What do you suggest, booking the ticket online, or is it just easier to buy right outside? 6y
BarbaraBB @Tanisha_A Hi Tanisha, you should buy your tickets online, I even think it isn‘t possible any longer to buy them upon arrival. And it‘s always so busy, so make sure you have them. No surprise here, I continue to be completely obsessed with Karin Slaughter's books! I'm consistently blown away by her seemingly effortless ability to navigate brutal crimes and complex, flawed characters in a way that keeps you engaged and guessing the entire time. Not for the faint of heart, but MAN is it riveting stuff.

Currently torn between wanting to read all of her books now and wanting to pace myself 🤔

Lmstraubie That's such a tough call. I read the whole Maisie Dobbs series pretty much back to back because I couldn't get enough and then was so sad when I was done. 😆 6y

I‘ve recently started reading Karin Slaughter‘s series of books and I am a little bit addicted! I finished this one last night and it was up to her usual high standard. As with all her books the violence was brutal and this one was particularly horrible to read at times because of the very dark subject matter but I think she‘s a fantastic writer and I raced through this in two days ! Now onto the next one !

After reading 3 Karin Slaughter books (+1 novella), I'm definitely a fangirl. I could NOT put this book down. It's hard to read in some places because it is graphic but it is so thrilling and intense. Nothing is gratuitous, everything has a place in the story.

I love how complex Sara, Jeffrey, and Lena are. I love their complicated relationships. I really care about these three, even outside of their difficult jobs, and I want them to be happy.

A pick, though hard to listen to due to the subject matter of the crimes & the way that Slaughter writes them. I'm pretty sure I don't want to move to Grant County.😱I liked the narration-Kathleen Early was good w/the characters. Not your series if you can't do graphic/very dark, but if you can, Slaughter does a great job w/her books. Now if I can get my library to get book 3 on audio-what's up w/ just having random books in a series on audio?!☹️

#JuneTunz #CruelSummer Catching up on yesterday's photo challenges. The August heat makes for a very cruel summer in Grant County 🔥but life in Heartsdale, Georgia, seems pretty cruel at least in terms of the crimes that happen here. This is the 2nd book in the series-listening to the audiobook currently-& some very twisted stuff happens in this small Southern town.😱 On a less twisty note, this song totally takes me back to summer in the 80s.👍😀

Grant County series #2 - This was unputdownable and #3 is already on hold. The story was gripping and sometimes painful to listen to. The crimes committed are heinous and it's hard to say I enjoyed it as the subject matter is not easy. I did, it's just weird to say. I seem to have a love/dislike situation with the regular characters but not in a way that makes me not want to continue with the series. Audio. 4⭐️
